I m going to watch this film over and over and i am sure I will never have seen enough. who knows it might make me a better Budoka. To see him is a true "Hallelujah moment". Iai is the shit
I have only been practicing Iai for a couple of years now. I like to equate Iai to the mythical hydra. It seems like the more you learn (chopping one head off of the hydra), the more realize you have much more to learn (two more heads appear). Keep in mind that speed hides mistakes. Also, the fact that this master makes it look simple, is part of the beauty. Iai is not about being flashy, it's partly about eliminating unnecessary movements. The more you know, the more u realize u have to learn.
>jukeboxerman This video is the one having taken the IAI. The IAI is one of the BUDO(martial arts) in Japan. If you do not know, it should not criticize.
the iaido of this man looks as if it is easy because he is a master. his iaido is wonderful. you have to know the katas he shows to be able to tell that though.
Well done. Demo speed so judges can see and onlookers can see..well done! Those that say it was slow you miss the point. We do last demo smooth and slow. This shows control and technique. This helps teach us younger guys better than trying to follow a silver flash and wonder what the hell did sensei just do?
Mae and Oroshi is indeed demonstrated as it should be, slow and correct. Sohdome and Kabezoe is also nicely done as an Okuiai technique, fluent and moderately fast. However, I would have thought that the 3rd technique Tozume, should have been done without stops whatsoever, like the other Okuiai techniques...

no you can't do this. it takes years of training to put youre sword back in its scabbart, the way he does.this is a artform called iaido. (its a bit like moving zen)

My goodness! The grace, poise and power of this gentleman is absolutely inspiring to watch.
