Sadly, the creators of Shadowrun never really gave Terrence McKenna the credit he deserved for bringing that whole Mayan calendar thing into the cultural mind.
Very interesting and nice Shadowrun history video. I was astonished by your very accurate pronounciation of "Feuerschwinge" and "Bundeswehr". Most native englishspeakers i heard butchered those german words.
You also swear like an Australian, it's why I subbed, that and I like your style of content, good background noise and it gives me something to think about.
Shadowrun is about to hit a re-emergence. Also history is both divergent and convergent. About 6,000BC to 1990-ish is the convergence. Anything outside of that is the divergence. I just referred friends in gonna rope into playing with me as the GM to these videos. Thanks again! Edit: looking into open legends tomorrow.
Ohh yes, the game where you can summon a ten meter tall fiery wildebeest that eats all your enemies before eating you, while a hacker fucks up a man's fake legs so he is uncontrolably jumping all over the place and a last guy is roasting some poor sods nuts with a tesla glove. I love it!
I would really love some new top down isometric Shadowrun games or a Cyberpunk 2077/Bethesda style Shadowrun game. That would be so awesome! Shadowrun has some of the best lore!
As much as I love the concept of native Americans getting their land back by any means necessary, it strikes me as odd and a little bit of projection to suggest that every single tribe would engage in genocide in retaliation. I've spent quite a while with native American activists and although I'm sure power could corrupt a lot of them, anger against individuals is not an emotion I've seen a lot of them express. Also if you know anything about recent first nation history you would know that state violence against them is by no means in the past, not to mention the fact that the Canadian and United states were largely successful in destroying their societies by extorting, kidnapping and abusing the survivors of traditional genocide. Most elder first nations people I've met have survived some sort of institutional physical, emotional and sexual abuse from churches supported by state officials in the last 60 years. A significant percentage of natives was taken from their parents in the '60's because they were natives and this disqualified them from being good parents. Environmental genocide is still going on, it's not about what happened between our ancestors.
Just to be clear: I'm not accusing you of anything. These videos are great, they're quite old, I watch them a lot. This is just context most people have little way of knowing, that I think would complicate any lore doctoring that I would do in this case (in a good way).
One thing Burger didn't mention in this video about that whole situation was that the US and Canada were literally rounding up all Native American tribes and putting them into concentration camps. The break up of the USA and Canada into the nations of the Shadowrun world was done at a peace summit in Denver after a 4 year long violent war. Lorewise, it wasn't so much ancestral retribution as it was direct retaliation for very overt and actively genocidal acts. In comparison to the actual tribes of the US and Canada, it's probably still a pretty problematic depiction but I'm not knowledgeable enough to say whether that's the case.
I've never played the p&p game, hard to find people that play it (go figure) but I love the novels. I'm re-reading the Secrets of Power trilogy at the moment.
Honestly I think even if you don't speak German the German Shadowrun wikis are STILL the better option. I can speak some, but I'll only be able to understand like half of what I'm reading so I just auto-translate it into English and it's still better than the empty ass English Shadowrun wikis, even with the weird grammar that comes with translation software.
Hello, i'm new here, but I love Shadowrun, and I'd love to be able to create and play an interesting character, so if there's a slot open whenever, i'd play.
Gonna be playing my first Shadowrun 5e game in a bit. These vids got me into the game :D EDIT: 1st session with the group went well. There were rats (still are), a Poop Elemental, radiation sickness and we just started a mutiny on a ship, who's leader/captain has gone nutty due to some ancient artifact. And she also became a Ratking. Next session's gonna be an interesting fight. I'm playing a non-mage, a Street Samurai who's akin to John Wick, but an Elf. Who's been around since the 1960s. So he has quite the life story he can share with the party, should they ask :D Also Snipers keep trying to beat him at Sniping, due to his rep.
I recently found a supplement hack for The Sprawl to run Shadowrun in The Sprawl. So I'm basically searching lore videos now for background knowledge :D
It's actually brilliant to deal with the topic of racism in a context of different sentient species; since that stress the point that the genetic makeup is not basis for personhood. In real world, turns out that the genetic differences between etnicities is dismal; but if science had found the opposite it should have no impact on your moral attitude towards anybody. Otherwise, we should consider it was ok to treat people whatever we want before we concluded the human genome programm
To be fair to the French, that border all the nuclear reactors are built on is the Rhine. And you need a ton of water for nuclear plants and big rivers tend to, you know, have a ton of water.
So even in a world filled with magic and shit, we are in one of the worst positions a country can find itself in..... to be honest I was kind of expecting that
great video, I'm playing Apocalypse World 2 and I will absolutely steal some ideas from Shadowrun, it would run so good with the Powered By The Apocalypse system!
1st edition when karma was king. GM's used to ask for dice rolls. I would be like you see how many karma points I have? It just happens. Seriously. We don't have time for your dice rolling. The good old days of checking the gm with fast talk and intimidation.
You say Open Legends is easy to learn somewhere in the 19 or 20 minute of the video. I must have a learning disability because I see it as very complicated.
you forgot to mention that the UCAS government at the time of the 2nd great ghost dance was kind of putting natives in concentration camps. exploding super volcanoes at that point is almost kinda justified
wow, this guy is a good orator and just enough funny to earn my sub. gonna watch all 4 vids before starting dragonfall (I had it on steam for over a year now, I think it's about time I play it)
If Shadowrun were to exist today, Lofwyr would have bought out Google and...fav.me/d79ivt0 all the memes that come with the internet. And considering Saeder-Krupp is one of the corporations that owns nuclear weapons, I'm sure all the memes and cat videos flooding his inbox, Lofwyr would eventually press the button.
The system is fine the formatting is so bad that you will find endless edits of the rules in collage bringing all the combat rules into one place instead of across the whole book However I will concede that the dwarves are badly designed I challenge you to remember one time someone played a dwarf
I was warned it was pre-beard. Somehow I didn't quite process it.
A real mindfuck, in that case, is that this is my first time seeing this guy. It's 2024 and I haven't seen him with a beard lol
CAS may have had the first female president, but the UCAS had a dragon one! For like... a day.
leirynot actually 3 hours IIRC
Pretty sure Iceland had a female president before 2012
No one cares about Thule. They're just a protectorate of the Trans-Polar Aleut.
It was 10 hours. That's how long Dunkelzahn was president.
Finland also had pretty early female president
Sadly, the creators of Shadowrun never really gave Terrence McKenna the credit he deserved for bringing that whole Mayan calendar thing into the cultural mind.
Very interesting and nice Shadowrun history video. I was astonished by your very accurate pronounciation of "Feuerschwinge" and "Bundeswehr". Most native englishspeakers i heard butchered those german words.
That's because I'm German :D

@@TheBurgerkrieg ,
nice english then.
@@TheBurgerkrieg is there a place or way we can get any write up on what or where West marches is and how I can look through it for info?
Lol helps when you love in Germany 🇩🇪

I remember watching this video 5 years ago and now seeing that it's 5 years old it's just such a weird dilation of time.
I love it!
My gf likes D&D, I like Cyberpunk.
This seems like a perfect middle ground.
Perhaps the perfect marriage
Watching the playlist of Shadowrun Lore: I was not prepared for Beardless Burgerkrieg, lol. His face is too smooth, give me back the face fuzz. XD
0:32 it would, in fact, become the norm
I would really love some new top down isometric Shadowrun games or a Cyberpunk 2077/Bethesda style Shadowrun game. That would be so awesome! Shadowrun has some of the best lore!
"There's a kingdom of racist elves in Oregon.... which.... to be honest there's not much of a change there." Lolllll XD
As a fan of Arcanum, you sold me on playing Shadowrun.
Oh christ it really is no beard Burger
This came out as i am doing my second run of the shadowrun games. It will be amazing to see this happan. Good luck my dude on runing the game.
As a New Zealander I found your Australian accent hilarious lol.
Boris Nonsense
As an Australian i found the accent Hilarious
as an australian, ur aussie impression is spot on

Rather interesting. I'll keep my eye on how this works out.
the "teenist" bit of venting, yess, yessss

I’m late to this party.. but I brought some good pan for everyone to enjoy. Awesome shirt, Burger.
Pre beard burger looks like medieval pageboy
I came for shadowrun content. Subbed because of Drunken peasants shirt.
Coming here from playing the Shadowrun RPG games on my PC.
Well done. You made picking up a book and reading the lore more tedious.
I
You got me with the Australia rant.
i watched once for the content, i came back another 100 times for the first 20 seconds.
I recently found a supplement hack for The Sprawl to run Shadowrun in The Sprawl. So I'm basically searching lore videos now for background knowledge :D
Good sir even tho it's "just" a rant your editing is great :D and another channel to steal my time .
also your face @13:48 :D
Man. Wish I'd been able to get into that West Marches game.
Fascinating.
Subscribed.
Nice video. I’ll check out some more.

OMG! My next Shadowrun Campaign is going to be based in Australia!!!! THANK YOU!!!
Also... I need to learn German.
To be fair to the French, that border all the nuclear reactors are built on is the Rhine. And you need a ton of water for nuclear plants and big rivers tend to, you know, have a ton of water.
I think I might run a shadowrun campaign using starfinder rules
The Humanis rant was the funniest part of this video.
I think I would enjoy being an actual Ork.
As an Australian I can confirm literally everything said is just normal life here
I wonder what happened to Poland in Shadowrun
Same thing as always... It's not very fun being located between Russia and the rest of Europe.
So even in a world filled with magic and shit, we are in one of the worst positions a country can find itself in..... to be honest I was kind of expecting that
These videos are very helpful. Thanks for Making them.
great video, I'm playing Apocalypse World 2 and I will absolutely steal some ideas from Shadowrun, it would run so good with the Powered By The Apocalypse system!
I LOVE this idea! Because i fuckin' LOVE Shadowrun AND Open Legend. Too bad I'm too late to sign up.
I once heard someone say Shadowrun is Cyberpunk for nerds and I never, till this very day decades later, knew how to feel about that.
I like your canadian shirt.
first video of yours ive seen may be the last who knows but good work on this one

14:05-14:22 as an Australian this is hilariously accurate
Woah, this sounds interesting.
Brilliant
Your voice is almost identical to the original guy who did the "Monster Mash" song.
This is the first video I saw of yours. I honestly thought at the beginning that your accent was you doing a bit.
best intro ever
I'm Aussie that was perfect spot on
SMOKE PAN EVERY DAY

I will give you any money's and a copy of sheepdos album on vinyl still in plastic for that god damn gamecube.
you forgot to mention that the UCAS government at the time of the 2nd great ghost dance was kind of putting natives in concentration camps. exploding super volcanoes at that point is almost kinda justified
Although it might have started the horrors waking up the end times
@@baker90338 details details
Well, if they didn't want to be put in concentration camps, they shouldn't have protested. Silly natives.
This would be a great book
Regret there a lot of books already on that
I reaaaaaaaally hope this video can help me understand this setting, because I just c a n ' t.
and it diiiiid not. Fuck this was my last hope.
It's easy - just take Palladium Rifts and turn it down from 11 to about 7
If I had played that, maybe I could. Nope. Rip.
wow, this guy is a good orator and just enough funny to earn my sub.
gonna watch all 4 vids before starting dragonfall (I had it on steam for over a year now, I think it's about time I play it)

A german talking about race and racism... That ended better than I expected.
It sounds great. I’m down
Sounds like living in Seattle to meh.

I believe that their is anway to play in a d20 system
Jacob Westphal but you loose a lot of flexibility if you do
Bright pretty much stole the whole Shadowrun thing except for the fact there is no hacking...yet
Also a very shitty world building
I’d like a ShadowRun anthology show
Ha I time traveled to say hi
Background music?
freakin hasbro had to buy all the ttrpg
Topps own ShadowRun

I do play this game since 1994, and you made me laugh, but fits as ass on shithole. Count me in as “liker”... greetings from Czech.
be cool if you do more shadowrun...
Its the anti-metahuman rant for me.
Keep going, I want to see where you wind up, because, honestly, you know you can't trust elves.
Hey Burger, isn't Shadowrun a multiplayer shooter in the early 2000's? Just checking
It was, an unfortunate blemish on the IP which Mitch Gitelman apologized for, not that it was really his fault.
You think Shadowrun has a bad system? Try Earthdawn.
haha naughty words = funny! he said frick xd
Don't forget thorny elves with rose fetishes.
dude, your voice... you are awesome! :D
Also, great vid. :)
Hey, thanks a lot for this video.
I'm designing my own cyberpunk world for homebrew pathfinder and this helped tremendously!
