    I had very expensive hockey skates and didn’t realise they did not fit, there was no lateral ankle support. I recently bought new boots which are incredibly thermoformable, and I was able to heat mould them round my foot. The right one was not perfect so I rebaked it, put it on my foot, wrapped it in a towel, placed a piece of wood each side of the ankle, and a pair of clamps to pull the wood together and compress the skate until cool. The fit is perfection. I was for years struggling to learn powerpulls and inside three turns. A month after getting the new skates I my crossrolls are now very good with deep edges, powerpulls are very good and so on. Skate fit is key. The difference in ease of skating is incredible. There is a company that makes heat mouldable carbon fibre figure skates, which are far more mouldable than others. They were developed by Scott Van Horne who developed my hockey skates.

    Thanks for sharing! I would have foot pain when I broke in new skating boots. I prefer my skating boots to be on the stiffer side (overboot a little) for security.💕

    Great video! Can you also talk about how adjustment to insoles might help skates fit more snug and help correct blade mounting issues? I had problem skating on a straight line when I was on one foot until I added small pads under my insoles between arch and heel. Somehow using insoles with any arch support hurts my arches, so I’m glad to find this adjustment. I used to also have pain when I skated backwards. A coach told me adding some padding under my insoles on the front part might help and it did! My feet still have slight pain when I do certain things such as spins, so I’m still experimenting with different adjustments. It’d be nice to pick your brain on this subject.

      Finding an experienced skate tech was life-changing. I just follow his recommendations now. I did heat molding, punching out for my bunions, and I have to wear a lot of stuff around my ankles and heels and inserts for my high arches, And my skates a little too long still, I am going to need to get a split size or a custom but he suggest the split size is probably going to do with some other minor customizations so I can get rid of some of the padding I need to use. I just trust him with giving me the best guidance. And not upsell me on anything because he’s such a pro and he’s been right about everything I think so far. Some people just get their skates sharpened wherever and if their blades messed up and they’re not getting the advice from an actual ski technician with someone who might just been mainly sharpening hockey skates all day. For anyone with fit issues or in general, ask in your town who is working with different skaters, Or ask coaches. Mine was really easy to find since he literally works with Nathan Chen and stuff.

    Hello! This was a great video that was very informative. I also had a lot of ankle bone pain and needed to punch out the left foot quite a bit for it to not make me cry during sessions :). Unfortunately, there is now some extra space in the boot that is letting my foot wiggle a bit too much for a stable skate session. Are there any recommendations for this to help make my boot conform more tightly around my foot?

    • @barbaras3206
      @barbaras3206 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ive read custom $$ insoles. Or, whatever type is out there that addresses the problem. Like high arch, find commercially available insoles for that. I need to stop rt heel slip. Ug. Left is fine. Sheesh. Cannot afford custom insoles. Im beginner. Am buying those bunga ankle sleeves tho.

    Hi. I have second hand skates that are hardly used (Wifa Champion light, wide). I believe the fit in terms of length is good (size 37). But I feel some space in the area of the ball of my feet. Would you please give me tips to make my skate more snug fitting?

    Hey coach Julia! This is completely unrelated to the video but i wonder if you have advice on what to do if i get really bad headaches when doing my spins? I am practicing on ice and at home and after 3 spins i am so dizzy and nauseous i actually vomited once and i get really painful headaches when spinning. Like pretty bad. I cannot spin over and over because my head feels like exploding. I can do one spin and another and then i need to rest for 10 minutes and i dont even rotate more than once when spinning. I really wish i could get this fixed because it is forcing me to go out of my spin and stop because its so bad and painful i feel like i will vomit on the spot and that my head will explode at the same time. Thanks in advance!

    What about over the top of the foot, can they punch out the tongue? I feel like mine is putting a lot of really uncomfortable pressure over the top of my foot. I have to leave my laces pretty loose over that area because of the pain

    Thank you for the video! It is very informative and helpful. Are there any options to change the insoles of skates to adjust for flat feet? The skate technician at the pro-shop said skating is different than walking so don't need orthotics if I don't feel pain or discomfort. However, my toes are always crunching up and toe picks scratching the ice when I skate backwards, not sure if missing arch support can contribute to the problem.

    • @makkachin9614
      @makkachin9614 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think there are surely insoles for skates! If I remember correctly, Edea, Jacksons, Riedell, Risport...all of these brands sell insoles for figure skates.
      I don't know which ones would be right for you though or if you even need them, you should talk to your coach or a skate technician about that.
      As long as your feet are suppported by your boot, your heel is not moving around while skating and your toes basically meet the front of your skates inside the boot is okay, even without insoles.
      I used to have the same problem with the toepick scratching the ice when I skate backwards, I think training to have strong legs bending your knees more will help you with that :)

    • @1chienandalou
      @1chienandalou 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! In fact not specific for Skating necessarily but you can use normal insoles cut them adjust them or pieces of leather pieces of tape, Skating specific insoles, but rather than guesswork anyone with difficult feet, it is life-changing to to find an experience skate tech. It was life-changing for me. He did this sort of Keith molding and punching out for my bunions and recommended trying different inserts and putting around my ankles because my size is so weird and he even helped me with issues like you were describing with not being able to get on the right part of the bleed because the boots too long and the rocker isn’t ending up in the right parts of my foot. He moved my blades, both vertically and sideways because my feet are a symmetric. I keep forgetting probably things. I didn’t even buy my boots from him I went to him to sharpen my blade heat mold the boots. For a better fitting pair I’m gonna need custom or a split size and he thinks we can manage with a split size. He never upsells me or anything. I trust that guy to tell me what’s best even though he doesn’t own my feet! Ask around for a tech. Once you find one who knows their business they can direct you from there the insert stuff took a bunch of trial and error but I think by myself I would’ve been in such a bigger space of exploration I wouldn’t know exactly what to do and I wouldn’t have made my skates nearly as workable. Good luck!

    • @1chienandalou
      @1chienandalou 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found a place like this through word of mouth. He has a shop off rink and works at the rink too. Amazing and life changing. I would guess a very expert cobbler could help you with some of it. Heat molding is a low temp oven and even could be done by yourself. I hesitate to suggest this but it might be a more reasonable option than traveling. But I think you can find a skate tech in many countries. Most modern skates come with this kind of material and you’re actually kind of bexpected to do heat molding when you buy the boot. So if you look for a shop that is selling you could also ask if they do the heat molding. The rest of the equipment cobblers tends to have to. Although they wouldn’t have the experience of a skate tech of course. :)

    Can this be done on vinyl skate boots for an occasional recreational skater?

    • @1chienandalou
      @1chienandalou 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Noooo. Well I don’t know what you mean by vinyl. It doesn’t have to be leather. It would depend on the skates. Definitely check the make and model and see what they recommend. They come with the temperature and stuff on it. Like oven temperature and you can even do it in a regular oven. I didn’t DIY mine but I know It can be done if the skate can be heat molded. Otherwise it might damage it badly I wouldn’t try it if it doesn’t say anything about the molding.
