I really enjoyed your review of the books together. I completely agree with your observation that the writing styles being different between the two books, but I would like to say that I read both books together at the same time and I did not find the writing styles to be jarring, but rather complementary. maybe this is cuz this is the third time I've read Pages for You and my first time reading the sequel, so I already had expectations of grown-up-ness in my mind for the 2nd book.
I loved your critique of how you felt about Anne at the end! I didn't really think (or maybe I was in denial) that the relationship would mean much more to Flannery than Anne, but I see what you mean completely. as someone who read the first book at 19 and then read both nearly a decade later, I could relate to both moments in time.. although I've been puzzled at why Anne would start a relationship with Flannery. I certainly would never start a relationship with an undergrad as a grad student, but I know it happens. I've just come to accept this as something that has happened in the context of the book and the point is not the TA/student relationship (it's good Flannery switched sections), but the love the two have. the enduring love and slight idealization is something that is relatable and I think that's the magic of the books for me. I know I was clutching my blanket into my chest with emotion when I read in the second book that despite the years that have passed, the two women still love each other, in addition to the experiences they've had in the years that have passed, and I believe it viscerally/can relate, although it just might be me.
I thought the ending was too abrupt and I hope sylvia brownrigg will write a third book.
thank you again for your review!

I totally agree. The sections were too long for me as well. I read it slowly throughout the first two sections. I enjoyed seeing and getting to know both characters more deeply. Knowing more of Anne was great. However, I found it rather disappointing. Flannery and Anne both, to me, seemed two people who could grab life by the balls and prosper it in. The submissiveness in Flannery towards Charles hit me like a truck. I was really sad for it. Clearly Charles could be charming but still, I think Flannery, in her run from herself, could have ran another more independent way, even with Willa, even being introverted and confused. I found that relationship really strange. I get it, but at the same time I dont. I wish their paths had intertwined better. We did get the feeling that thry werent really meant to be. Got a feeling that Anne was open to love Flannery only when single or dumped by Jasper which really messes with my protective bean buttons. I wish the first two chaoters had been shorter, since a lot of information did not seem as important as the amount of pages they took, and the third one longer, with more dept relatively to both women. It felt rushed. Thank you for your review!

I have to add that, as I mentioned, i read the first two sections in Pages For Her really slowly and the third section as well as Pages For You in a flash. I liked seeing how such different characters interact and come to love and discover one another. I found their story to have a great potential (wasted away in the second, unfortunaly).
