I'm an old fart, 65yrs old. No way I can go backwards to steel shafts. Those are for the strong and young. When I made the change at 50, it was a vast, immediate improvement. I'm a 16 handicap. (after an accident and recovery, etc.) I am trying to shave that down some for sure. I use senior shafts as well. Good control, more distance, better ball height, winner-winner chicken dinner.

Titleist is #1. 2 years ago I was custom fit for 2021 T100S irons 48 deg thru 6 iron. Best ever. Last year I added a T150 5 iron. Consistency/feel/sound is amazing. Forged head and very forgiving with plenty of tungsten hidden in the heel & toe. Keeping these until the grooves were out.

What a superb and informative video. It's amazing when you don't have a pre-decided idea of what you want and just go with what's suitable for your game. It's important to like your golf clubs and enjoy playing with them so if you cam get both, it's ideal. Great video again, James.

Love the graphite shafts. I play MMT 105 S hard stepped once with P7CB in scoring irons. Absolutely love them and for someone that’s been in construction for 25 years, they really help with my body pains, especially in my hands and wrists.

Has anyone ever done a test where you are fitted with an the bolt on iron head and shaft with the the adapter, then got the club built to that spec and then try them side by side to see if you get the same performance? I'm curious to see if the bolt on stuff makes a difference?

    • @King62016

Bolt on makes a weight difference. They say it doesn’t. Mentally in a fitting it might not. I bought some after a fitting and immediately returned. The weight changed.

I have fitted irons, but I have always done the Mizuno Swing DNA first and then tried all top three choices.
For me the number one has always been a Nippon Modus but I'm interested in those graphite shafts...

  • @thomasgoode7322
    @thomasgoode7322 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

Was fit for new irons last Saturday (happy bday to me), overwhelmingly the shaft fitting was the most important part of the process. Tried, and liked, a couple of graphite options but I am in the camp that is not looking for distance and I did note a lack of feedback on strikes - too much to ignore. Ultimately, the finished product was Mizuno Pro 245s (dear god, so nice) onto Modus3 Tour 120g X steel shafts, but there's every possibility that graphite could be the next set.
Agree with your fitter here, graphite is definitely under utilized in the amateur space.

I almost went to PXG for a fitting but a friend told me that they didn't do a great job going through all of their shaft options. They quickly zero in on one based on swing speed and didn't deviate. In my own experience my swing speed says regular but in play a soft tipped stiff actually performs great for me. I also don't particularly like the look of their clubs either. I know that shouldn't be a factor but I think subconsciously it does.

Yes. Agreed! I had a similar experience with PING. I love Ping and I’m a “Ping guy”. After a fitting at the Canadian Proving Grounds I Re-Did the full bag over the course of a few years (when the money tree sprouted a few leaves 😉). All based on my specs.
But a friend just reshafted his irons and driver recently. I tried them and was very impressed. I’m looking for a 5-wood to replace my 3-wood and have been more open minded. Wow. The weight or the pop and feel of each brand has been quite interesting!! Still love Ping. But I will always be more open minded now. 👍

I went back 3 times over the space of 2 weeks to hit the same combination and see if the good feelings stayed. After 2 weeks, and getting to know all the club fitters by name, I purchased the new clubs. I have not been disappointed.

I thought that was as a quality of a fitting as I’ve seen on You Tube; better than most and equal to anything I’ve seen, even from Ian and Mikey on the Club Champions channel. While you are well above an average golfer in all aspects of the game, that is the kind of fitting as an average golfer I would love to experience. Unfortunately in my part of the U.S. I have yet to find anything close to it. Well done James.

After playing cavity backs for years I picked up a new full set 3 - PW of Wilson Staff blades at a sale price. Standard loft, lie and shaft length, stiff steel shafts. Wondered if I’d be able to hit them at all as I’m an old geezer. I’d been struggling with the cavity backs and couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong by the feel. Struggled with the blades for a while but the feedback is great and I’m now hitting them really well, in fact hitting them further and more accurately than the cavity backs. Taking into consideration that the blades are about 3 degrees weaker loft than the cavity backs tells me I’m striking the ball better than I’ve done in years. A lot to be said for feedback and blades give you that in spades. They make you work on the strike. I can even launch the 3 iron.

TBH i have seen a few videos with these guys and think it's a great idea. I am currently trying to work out which would be the best wedge shaft for me and the only way is buying lots of second hand and trial and error. My only challenge is that i play 15-20 times a year so i don't really want to spend £500+ for shafts to have my irons reshafted. I think a lot of custom fits are poor, better than noting but still lazy. I am not a tour pro but i do want to feel that i have the best club for me.... but at the same time those LA golf shafts are £100 a pop....

    So, James ...
I ended up going for an iron fitting at Club Champion in Crawley earlier this year ... got fitted for the T150's with LA Golf L-120 graphite shafts ... absolute game-changer!
In short, apart from the obvious cost impact, I don't see how more golfers aren't fitted into graphite shafts, as the results are truly astonishing (49 year old, 105 mph swing speed with driver, play off 3 handicap) ... increased length with every iron throughout the bag, increased spin (!) and descent angle ... but, yes, it has cost some money.
That being said, I would hope that you go back to SGGT and now take a look at wedge options with graphite shafts ... in particular the i-Wedge shaft by Accra (which I could see on the rack there at SGGT).
Because, I was so impressed with the iron fitting at CC, that I went back there for a wedge fitting 3 months later ... due to a "flippy release" with my wedge shots at 50-75% swing speed (90 yards and in). The results of using those shafts with the scoring wedges (58 deg and bent 54 deg to 53 deg - Cleveland RTX Zipcores) were mind-blowing ... where you can "feel the head more" at every stage of the back-swing and transition into the down-swing.
Apologies for the long-winded comment, James ... but keep up the great work on the channel (long time lurker, finally a subscriber).
P.S. Forgot to say that the graphite shafts have completely eradicated my Golfers' Elbow ... which was acute after practicing on driving range mats for years.

Is that distance in meters or yards? If you're carrying a 6 iron a 167 yards you ought to be hitting something else. I carry my 7 iron 174 yards. My 6 iron is in the 186 area. When you hit those few in the 180's and were saying it was going too long I was thinking huh?...has to be meters.

    I have a blended T100 P-6 and T-200 6-4. For some reason I can’t hit the T-200s worth a damn.

@@andrewsymes249 - Possibly. At least they do go straight on a terrible shot as promised. But like 30 yards : p I tend to just lay up with the T100s instead.

You seem to be lifting your irons slightly on takeaway, as opposed to keeping them lower on the immediate takeaway.

Love and watch a lot of your videos Robbo but custom fittings make for extremely boring content and I jump to the end to see what you end up with
