  • On September 26, 2023, the School of Foreign Service welcomed Dr. Grace Naledi Mandisa Pandor, the South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation to Georgetown University. She shared her insights into South Africa’s leadership in the Global South in times of rapid change and growth. The event was hosted by the School of Foreign Service, the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and the African Studies Program.
    In her speech, Minister Pandor discussed the importance of multilateralism, the global effects of trade and equality in respecting international law. In the moderated discussion with SFS Dean Joel Hellman, Minister Pandor spoke about the future of South Africa and its relationship with the world, and challenges she expects her county to face. Students asked a range of questions including apartheid affecting multinational relationships, the climate crisis, South African national elections’ impact on foreign affairs and economic cooperation within Africa.
