Just saw the other Styx guys in Atlanta, they were incredible, super, but boy, nobody can sing better than DDyoung, he is one of a kind, his keyboard as well is fantastic, wish we could get them all together again, but this band looks really great as well, nice to have 2 Styx bands! God bless them both!
Good god, this guy is 70? Could’ve fooled me. He’s got the energy of someone much younger; still very much a frontman. And his voice is still really good

First off... Im on team Tommy and J.Y. only as far as the direction of music in the band. HOWEVER YOU CANNOT DENY... 1) Babe Im leaving, Mr. Roboto, Concept album, Lovey dovey ballads, (which alot of hair metal and other bands do) ("every rose has its thorn", "dont stop belevin'" "I want to know what love is". Sure they are power ballads and not just ballads but Dennis had alot to do with this. YOU CANNOT DENY! 2) it was Dennis songs that provided at least 60% of the bands finances and successes. Does Dennis back hurt for carrying the band through 1972 to 83? If you include every single big hit of Styx during their hay-day, literally taking all the songs from their greatest hit album and DeYoung carries this album of the songs he wrote and sings at (10/16) 62.5% and of course Shaw comes in at (5/16) 31.25% of he contributed in hits. and J.Y and his lonely miss America (1/16) 6.25%. Even Shaw and J Y together cant contribute more than what DeYoung has contributed. 3) Without him Shaw wouldn't even exist, it was Dennis who called Tommy, when John Curulewski left the band. As I analyze the difference in musicianship between Tommy's Styx vs. Dennis' The Music of Styx, Dennis has a phenomenal voice, and a phenomenal pianist. However this Shaw replacement is an embarrassment a way more of an embarrassment of Gowan trying to be Dennis. It is seriously like the Music of Styx is like minor league baseball and Styx is Major league baseball. All because of the foundation of that band the best drummer that wins multiple awards Todd Sucherman, And Tommy Shaw, you CANNOT replace Tommy! Dennis has a monster voice but Tommy in the Damn Yankees and on he is literally one the best Tenors in the business. even though Tommy didnt have that major of a contribution in the band but neither member Dennis nor Tommy can exclude each of their music in their setlist, (Dennis needs to have blue collar man, too much time and renegade in his set list) (while as tommy cannot exclude lady, mr roboto, grand illusion, rockin the paradise from his set list), Similarly, without Tommys contribution in Styx, those albums wouldnt have done much... it was the chemistry of the 2 songwriters that helped this band! It is a shame that Shaw JY cannot grow up and bring Dennis back, because they all can make some great music, I am a HUGE Tommy and Styx fan and their 2 new albums are god AWFUL! there are a coupe of ok songs, Styx needed to write music to eliminate Dennis' songs in the set list. If a miracle happens and Styx is in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame you can bet your bottom dollar for the ceremony and show, in front of the camera Tommy, JY and Dennis will be showing real happy emotions and positive nostalgia when seeing each-other, they will forget all the bad and think about all the good, Hopefully then we will see a reunion.

My favorite "Lady" and "Don't Let It End" love Dennis DeYoung/Styx. Styx is not Styx without Dennis DeYoung.
