So, Saiki wrote the lyrics for this one. She wrote it because of a close friend of hers whose husband cheated on her during Covid and she was very angry about this betrayal so she gave her friend a voice. Great performance and a great reaction. 👍
Thank Bad Llama and yo mama for another great Band-Maid song! Gotta tell ya Abigirl, I don't Hate? that we listened to it twice. Misa playing with a pick at high speed and Kanami shredding that PRS. Nice!
"Nah, I don't want to watch or hear it again" said no Band-Maid fan ever. 😄 I like that you noticed Kanami playing part of her guitar solo with her eyes closed. She was in the zone. Saiki voiced those put-down lyrics and then smiled and said thank you afterward.
Great reaction and replaying is not a problem for us, we all love them. During the pandemic in Japan there were a lot of news articles about famous people cheating on their wives. The singer Saiki wrote the lyrics as a friend of hers had this happen to her and Saiki was really angry. Usually the lyrics are written by Miku and she is usually more positive. About the question mark, I read on reddit that it was some kind of a pun (I didn't understand it). Thanks for continuing to react to Band-Maid.
You just reacted to the Greatest Rock Band of all time!! I go back a long time and seen some of the legends. BUT, these ladies here…… legends in the making!! And there are no better. Great react, they have a huge library. Try ‘Moratorium”, Onset, Turn me on….or just pick out of a hat. No bad songs by the Queens of Rock. ❤❤
Band Maid is: MIKU (mee-koo) Rhythm guitar and backing vocals. She is the band’s founder, writes the lyrics and the band’s main spokesperson. She is called “the little Pigeon”. SAIKI (sigh-kee) Lead vocals and front man. “The Ice Queen”. (She’s also the team mom). KANAMI (kah-nah-mee) Lead guitar. A classically trained musician, she composes and arranges all the music. “Mincho” MISA (mee-sah) Bass. The band’s secret weapon. Most bassists don’t stand out. She does. “The Barefoot Assassin”. AKANE (ah-kah-neh) The smiling drummer is “The Gorilla” and she is the other half of one of the best rhythm sections anywhere.
Saw them in Atlanta in 23 best concert ever. These ladies are incredible live. You should expect greatness from Band Maid because they are great. Thanks for the reaction your assumptions are correct. The singer wrote the song in response to one of her friends husbands cheating on her.
In an interview, Saiki explained about the "?" mark in the title of this song. When Saiki wrote the lyrics, she wanted to use the phrase "I hate you". She decided the title to be "HATE", and then she realized that "HATE" could be read "はて" in Japanese. Because "はて" is typically used in question, she put "?" to make the title "HATE?". I'm sure that Saiki was smiling a lot when decided on this title with "?" because she guessed that English speaking fans would be puzzled by it just like you did. "はて?" can be translated as "What?"
So much energy, and that was 2 hours into a three and a half hour concert that never let up. Whether you were in the arena or watching the live stream in the wee hours, you'll never forget this concert; Band-Maid is a force to be reconned with. This was a Saiki Atsumi lyric. Miku Kobato turned down the assignment because it was too dark, but Saiki happily accepted the writing task. The story is about a woman who figured out that her husband was cheating on her.
Abi , No you did not misinterpret the lyrics , Saiki lead vocal wrote the lyrics on this one , don`t piss Saiki off , MISA !!! MISA !!! MISA !!! the Barefoot Bass Assassin , Kanami in her Mincho mode , Akane holding down on the drum`s , and Miku being Miku our Small Pigeon .
I read somewhere that the question mark was more about the translation of the Japanese expression for hate than it was about actually questioning anything
This song is about hating yourself. The lyrics of the second verse are "私を使って満たす自己顕示欲 10分そこらのしょぼい運動 大した事もないのに 大層にでかい態度” which translates "Use me to fulfill self-expression Ten minutes or so of crappy exercise a big attitude for not much of anything." I guess the machine translation used the word gymnastics instead of exercise.
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 My wife and I witnessed this very performance at the venue on Nov.26, last year. We were in bliss going through very exciting 3-hour-40-minute-long show with 33-song setlist. (Happy fatigue thereafter 😄) Note : This song (including the hot Misa-Kanami duel) was played at 2023 Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, too. The lyric is a little bit contradictory or ambivalent. If the girl hates the guy so intensely, why she hanged around with him so long enough to know his daily behavior (10 minutes of limp gymnastics 🤣 etc.) and she wants him to try to understand her. Is she giving him the last chance to restore their relationship? That is the point I talked with my wife on my way home.
Great reaction Abs. It's easy focus on the superstars in this track, Kanami and Misa, but I really want to give a shout out to Akane and Miku for their excellent work of locking the time and keeping the whole song moving forward. Miku's rhythm sections were perfect. I love Kaname's Custom 24 Cherryburst guitar, it sounds so thick, I reckon her sixth string is tuned to Drop D here instead of the Standard E. I wonder if Kanami will switch to her new Signature guitar for live shows, it looks and sounds amazing, I wouldn't be surprised if she keeps it only for music videos and special performances. I believe all 200 of the Kanami Signature guitars are sold, not bad for around US$6,000 a piece.
@@Abigirl_Reacts I have a friend who paid around USD$12,000 for a second-hand harpsicord that she had to re-paint. Price is relative to how much you love something.
Don't play the video again and in it's entirely without interruptions said no Maidiac ever! Your face at the end of the first playthrough said it all. Astonishment and delight!
"10 minutes of limp gymnastics" translated as intended... Hate? I think Is a rhetorical question as in: - "please don't hate me but...." - "Hate? Its much more than just hate."
Miku usually writes the lyrics to Band-Maid songs but Saiki wanted to write them for Hate? Someones husband was cheating on them and Band-Maid wanted to send him a message =) Great Reaction ✌🤘
What's up! That solo is amazing, the music is really good. I feel like some of the lyrical smoothness may be lost in translation, ...I mean, clearly she's a little perturbed. Lol
HATE? - The question mark is there because there is a Japanese word "はて” that is alphabetically spelled "hate". When Saiki wrote the lyrics of this song, she wanted to use the phrase "I hate you", and she also realized that the English word "hate" can be read "はて" in Japanese. Because "はて” is generally used in a question, she decided to put "?" after "HATE". Mystery solved! PS Saiki, the lead vocalist, wrote the lyrics for this song, apparently inspired by a friend who's partner cheated on her during lockdown. PPS 4:20 - "I don't care if you die" isn't quite right. It doesn't quite have the emphasis on total extinction as what Saiki actually sings - "I don't care if you die out"! Harsh but, hey, don't cheat!
The pun doesn't make much sense even if you understand some Japanese, IMO. はてなマーク is Japanese for "question mark" - since you can't read Japanese, the romaji is "hatenamaaku". "Maaku" is their way of pronouncing English "mark". So either it's a "hatena" mark (and I don't know what "hatena" means), or else it's a "na" particle that's turning "hate" (that's not the English word "hate", but a Japanese word はて that would be pronounced like "haw-tay") into an adjective. So it's a hate-ish mark. What does the Japanese word "hate" mean? A number of things - but one of its uses is at the beginning of a sentence to express doubt. So are you following? The Japanese phrase for "question mark" starts with はて, which is written "hate", which looks like English "hate", so they put a question mark after "hate". See? It's not even a GOOD pun. They're just being dorks :P
SAIKI wrote those lyrics after, she's aware about one of her best friends husband cheat on his wife. She was clause to the dube and she'll be made of him. If you are in SAIKI friend relationship don't act stupid if you don't want to be in a BAND MAID song 😂
The song was a response to one of Saiki's friend's husband cheating on her during COVID - I understand they're going through counselling and have made up. Saike expended it to cover all men who cheat on their wives, partners, or supposed loved ones! The question mark is because the Japanese cypher for "Hate" can be read as, IIRC, what (although that may be slightly wrong), which is a question. It's a pun. It's the song you recommend to any of your female, and possible male because it's gender neutral, friends going through a bad break-up!
The song HATE was about Saiki's best friend, LISA (a great singer), was cheated on by her husband during covid and created a huge scandal in the press .
I don't think you're misunderstanding. IIRC, this is a dis track aimed squarely at someone's ex. Fun fact: Kanami just got her own signature model of PRS guitar. I think I read she's the first Japanese artist to get that honor.
funny fact, "hate" is also a Japanese word that means something totally different than what it means in English. the question mark is the bands way of making a pun out of the title of the song.
@@zer0tzer0 not sure, I got that from one of the bands interviews where Miku said the title was confusing b/c that word also had different meaning in Japanese.
Yes It means what you think it means. A friend of Saiki's had her husband cheat on her and it pissed Saiki off that she wrote the lyrics, moral of the story do not piss Saiki off😂
No, you're not misunderstanding the lyrics. "I don't care if you die out" sounds like a lineage ending statement. No more chances for procreation. It seems he couldn't perform. There is no word for Hate in Japanese. 大嫌い (dai kirai) only means Big Dislike. She said she just liked the way it felt in English. "I hate you!" The Question Mark at the end it probably Miku's reaction to Saiki's name for the song. "You want to call it Hate?" Not exactly the positive BAND-MAID message, is it?
Yeah there's so many things she hates about that cheating husband of, supposedly a friend of Saiki (the lead singer who wrote the lyrics), he's not even that great to start with, 10 minutes or so limp gymnastics 😅. Of course she hates him, well she should be hating him, right? She knows she should break up with him yet can't make the final decision. She's venting her frustration out biiiig time. Probably the most straight forward lyrics by anyone. The same person wrote lyrics to their very profound song "Forbidden Tale" and some other introspective lyrics, believe it or not 😅
Saiki wrote the lyrics for this one after she found out one of her good friends' husband cheated, she wrote it for her friend to have a voice in public, moral of the story... dont piss Saiki off !!

I believe it haha selling out that quick
Never have to ask if we want to re-watch a BAND-MAID performance, the answer will always be YES. Thank you for reacting to my most love band.
Thanks for watching ^_^
So, Saiki wrote the lyrics for this one. She wrote it because of a close friend of hers whose husband cheated on her during Covid and she was very angry about this betrayal so she gave her friend a voice. Great performance and a great reaction. 👍
Saiki is a good friend 🧡
@ApocryphalBob so apparently Saiki's friend told her all about the "ten minutes of limp gymnastics" lol poor fella lolololol
@@markbaker8255Well, he cheated on his wife, but his girlfriend obviously is satisfied with 10 minutes of...😂😂😂
@@markbaker8255Well no, because 1. He cheated on his wife. And 2. He's got a girlfriend who's satisfied with 10 minutes or so....😂😂😂
Not a friend. A popular pop star in Japan who's husband's infidelity was all over the news.
Great reaction to a fantastic song!! Love Band-Maid, they are the best. I think your assumptions of the lyrics is dead on. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching ^_^
I'm sensing a build in 'maidiac' chill factors going on here. Kanami & Misa: saving rock and roll, one solo at a time....
💯
5:53 Just like the early days when people (including me) were discovering Band Maid 😮
🤘😊🤘
Thank Bad Llama and yo mama for another great Band-Maid song! Gotta tell ya Abigirl, I don't Hate? that we listened to it twice. Misa playing with a pick at high speed and Kanami shredding that PRS. Nice!
This was a really good request wasn't it?!
@Abigirl_Reacts it was! Better'n some limp gymnastics...😂
"Nah, I don't want to watch or hear it again" said no Band-Maid fan ever. 😄
I like that you noticed Kanami playing part of her guitar solo with her eyes closed. She was in the zone.
Saiki voiced those put-down lyrics and then smiled and said thank you afterward.
Kanami is incredibly talented, wow.
The pun has been explained to me a few times but I'm still a bit confused haha
Wow 11k subs you are on your way to the top great reaction like ways
I hope so Rob!
Added, thanks a bunch! ^_^
Band Maid is:
MIKU (mee-koo)
Rhythm guitar and backing vocals. She is the band’s founder, writes the lyrics and the band’s main spokesperson. She is called “the little Pigeon”.
SAIKI (sigh-kee)
Lead vocals and front man. “The Ice Queen”.
(She’s also the team mom).
KANAMI (kah-nah-mee)
Lead guitar. A classically trained musician, she composes and arranges all the music. “Mincho”
MISA (mee-sah)
Bass. The band’s secret weapon. Most bassists don’t stand out. She does. “The Barefoot Assassin”.
AKANE (ah-kah-neh)
The smiling drummer is “The Gorilla” and she is the other half of one of the best rhythm sections anywhere.
Thanks for the info!
It's amazing how Band-Maid has rewritten the laws of nature: Hate? brings Love! 😖--->🎀--->😍Thx, Abigirl!
Thanks for watching ^_^
@@Abigirl_Reacts Sure thing! ;-)
Thanks so much nice reaction!
Thanks for watching ^_^
Welcome to this world !
Thanks for having me! Happy to be here ^_^
Did I just witness an eargasm? Such things are common with BAND-MAID.
Probably hehe
Saw them in Atlanta in 23 best concert ever. These ladies are incredible live. You should expect greatness from Band Maid because they are great. Thanks for the reaction your assumptions are correct. The singer wrote the song in response to one of her friends husbands cheating on her.
I'm so happy you got to see them live! ^_^
@ if you get the chance you should as we and for what’s left have a Merry Christmas
Yeah we hear the bass 🤟🤟
🤘😊🤘
In an interview, Saiki explained about the "?" mark in the title of this song. When Saiki wrote the lyrics, she wanted to use the phrase "I hate you". She decided the title to be "HATE", and then she realized that "HATE" could be read "はて" in Japanese. Because "はて" is typically used in question, she put "?" to make the title "HATE?". I'm sure that Saiki was smiling a lot when decided on this title with "?" because she guessed that English speaking fans would be puzzled by it just like you did.
"はて?" can be translated as "What?"
Oh haha well she got me good!
@@Abigirl_Reacts Yes, she did and to many others as well😁
Akane killing it at the back.Beast mode.
💯
Totally what you are thinking. I call this 'You're so vain, but we spend the second verse talking about how bad they are in bed.' 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Good job!!👏👏👏
Thank you! Cheers!
I believe it! Have you ever seen them live?
Abi , No you did not misinterpret the lyrics , Saiki lead vocal wrote the lyrics on this one , don`t piss Saiki off , MISA !!! MISA !!! MISA !!! the Barefoot Bass Assassin , Kanami in her Mincho mode , Akane holding down on the drum`s , and Miku being Miku our Small Pigeon .
Yes remind me to never piss off Saiki haha
@@Abigirl_Reacts For sure , Saiki (aka) the Ice Queen will freeze you out .
*MISA, MISA, MISA*
🤘😊🤘
Next, try with the live version of "Don't You Tell Me", there's another "duel" between MISA and Kanami
Added, thanks a bunch! ^_^
I wouldn't want to have Saiki mad at me, sayin! Take that Taylor Swift!
Haha Taylor ain't got nothing on Saiki
It's just silly how good they are. Destroyers.
So good!
I read somewhere that the question mark was more about the translation of the Japanese expression for hate than it was about actually questioning anything
Oh!
Best rock band on the planet. Watch REAL EXISTENCE live for another great rocker. No complaints here about watching the video again.
Of course! Thanks
The best live rock band on the planet. And, of course, MISA MISA! MISA!
"She's a tall, cool woman in a black dress." - The Hollies
💯
Misa is the quietest and calmest in BAND-MAID but very chatty with the bass
I can see that!
LOL. You are NOT misunderstanding. Woo Hoo!!! 2 reactions for 1 song. Wish I could sub again.
Oh no, the diss! Never piss off saiki!
I don't think she hates herself in this scenario... haha 😅
Yes, lyrics going by quickly but that BASS!!!!!!
Bass was so fun
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 My wife and I witnessed this very performance at the venue on Nov.26, last year. We were in bliss going through very exciting 3-hour-40-minute-long show with 33-song setlist. (Happy fatigue thereafter 😄)
Note : This song (including the hot Misa-Kanami duel) was played at 2023 Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, too.
I'm so happy you got to see them live! ^_^
@Abigirl_Reacts 😍
The Japanese word for "huh?" sounds like "hate"...That would be Band Maid's clever reason for putting the question mark in the title ! 😆
Clever indeed
That's expensive to me haha
@@Abigirl_Reacts I have a friend who paid around USD$12,000 for a second-hand harpsicord that she had to re-paint. Price is relative to how much you love something.

Probably best one on one guitar vs bass they have done.
Amazing. How can they top that!?

that facial expression! 🤣🤣

"Don't give a shit no more!" - Saiki Atsumi
I could tell!
“I don’t care if you die out” I think is meant more in relation to lineage, your name, no children.
Oh like if your name dies.
I don’t think even Saiki would mean….termination! I don’t think so anyway!
...and at right around 5'8", also the tallest.
So many reactors miss that line it's one of my favorite lines. Yes she's pissed and he's not living up to his end.
It was an intense line!
Don't play the video again and in it's entirely without interruptions said no Maidiac ever! Your face at the end of the first playthrough said it all. Astonishment and delight!
Haha thanks for watching!
"10 minutes of limp gymnastics" translated as intended... Hate? I think Is a rhetorical question as in:
- "please don't hate me but...."
- "Hate? Its much more than just hate."
Oh OK got it!
You are correct... Usually all their songs are so positive, uplifting, inspirational... Not this one! forgot who it was but somebody got cheated on.
Oh no!
Not misunderstanding!
Oh no haha
💜💛❤💙💚
3.5 hours, 33 song setlist (this was #27) Best part? I was there😁
I'm so happy you got to see them live! ^_^
❤💙💚💛💜 PO! 🕊 🤘😆🤘
Saiki can be scary if you make her angry, so everyone please be kind to her❤
And don't get on Saiki's bad side!
Miku usually writes the lyrics to Band-Maid songs but Saiki wanted to write them for Hate? Someones husband was cheating on them and Band-Maid wanted to send him a message =) Great Reaction ✌🤘
I think the message was sent!
Notice that during the bass/guitar battle the drummer Akane is killing it.
She really is!
What's up! That solo is amazing, the music is really good. I feel like some of the lyrical smoothness may be lost in translation, ...I mean, clearly she's a little perturbed. Lol
I'll be honest, you lost with the last word there haha
Haha and don't get on her bad side!
MISA MISA MISA!!!!!
🤘😊🤘
Well i like their sense of humor ^_^
SAIKI wrote those lyrics after, she's aware about one of her best friends husband cheat on his wife. She was clause to the dube and she'll be made of him. If you are in SAIKI friend relationship don't act stupid if you don't want to be in a BAND MAID song 😂
Haha that's right!
Moral of the song is don't piss off saiki haha
The song HATE was about Saiki's best friend, LISA (a great singer), was cheated on by her husband during covid and created a huge scandal in the press .
Don't get on Saiki's bad side, got it 😅
I don't think you're misunderstanding. IIRC, this is a dis track aimed squarely at someone's ex.
Fun fact: Kanami just got her own signature model of PRS guitar. I think I read she's the first Japanese artist to get that honor.
What an honor!
And she is the first Female with one as well. Double Honor.
funny fact, "hate" is also a Japanese word that means something totally different than what it means in English. the question mark is the bands way of making a pun out of the title of the song.
Can't find that one. Is it へいと or ヘイト, cause that last one just means Hate.
@@zer0tzer0 not sure, I got that from one of the bands interviews where Miku said the title was confusing b/c that word also had different meaning in Japanese.
I've heard this! Thanks haha although I still don't quite get it but that's OK 😅
Yes It means what you think it means. A friend of Saiki's had her husband cheat on her and it pissed Saiki off that she wrote the lyrics, moral of the story do not piss Saiki off😂
I got that gist haha
No, you're not misunderstanding the lyrics. "I don't care if you die out" sounds like a lineage ending statement. No more chances for procreation. It seems he couldn't perform. There is no word for Hate in Japanese. 大嫌い (dai kirai) only means Big Dislike. She said she just liked the way it felt in English. "I hate you!" The Question Mark at the end it probably Miku's reaction to Saiki's name for the song. "You want to call it Hate?" Not exactly the positive BAND-MAID message, is it?
Maybe not but the performance still blew my mind!
The same person wrote lyrics to their very profound song "Forbidden Tale" and some other introspective lyrics, believe it or not 😅
Haven't heard Forbidden tale yet!
Saiki wrote the lyrics for this one after she found out one of her good friends' husband cheated, she wrote it for her friend to have a voice in public, moral of the story... dont piss Saiki off !!
That's a good moral to follow haha
