Not trying to be rude but I don’t understand why he’s been lifting for so long and his technique isn’t better. Why is the US so behind in training optimal-moving athletes?
    Olivia is such an outlier.

      У него отличная техника!

I mean, give him time. It's actually pretty tough to keep good technique while also mentally preparing to lift a new pr. Obviously, it would be a perfect world if every athlete managed to be strong, mentally prepared, and have good technique. Plus, it seems like his strength is improving every competition, so perhaps it's similar to karlos nasar, where the technique does not look exactly picture perfect but works for the athlete as it allows them to express their strength better. I think this is why since nasar started working on his technique that his snatch improved. Probably, similarly after, Paris US coaches will likely invest more time into building perfect technique for him as it makes no sense to suddenly try to make him change his technique when he is already placing in competition, improving every competition, is really young still, and has a massive competition the Olympics in merely a few months. Olivia reeves maybe different as with women a consistent technical base is essential before the uphauling of strength as they need to he more efficient in expressing the strength through technique as female athletes typically have less raw strength and power but are usually better at consistent strength for example positional whereas it is almost opposite for male athletes. Like with a female athlete, I would likely train her more in pulls from varying heights to improve neuromuscular strength or her body, remembering the positions of strength whichever you would call it. The female athlete would be able to do this more often and regularly than the male athlete as the female can handle intensity for a long period of time, and they would recover from this type of training faster than male. This form of training allows you, the coach, to monitor every position until it is nearly millimetre perfect while also strengthening the athlete. This is also theoretically possible with a male athlete if you have the perfect recovery protocols. For example, china has state sponsored recovery, massages, herbal remedies, traditions that involve active recovery, and a fairly healthy diet as a country. In the case of the normal Western male athlete or some Europe county athletes, they focus more on building absolute strength rather than positional strength, this is mainly because it can be typically harder to recover from and still have a good training session either later that day or the next day as the inflammation lingers more in males through greater desire from their body to develop muscle. The easier way for male athletes to develop strength is through shorter sets of exercise, maybe 1, 2, or 3 reps of less overall time, no grinding sets for the olympic lifts as it allows them enough body function to recover for the next session. In east Europe, like Bulgaria, for example, the strength is easily found through more recovery as they have access to avoid testing and other types of pills to take. In the US, it would appear Hampton has found the right recipe of recovery to help him recover from the strength building sessions as he is abnormally strong for a typical athlete from the US, but the coaches use this to the advantage of his technique is good enough but his strength is recovering and building fast and consistent because of their ability to give hamptom sets of 10 reps for squats and him still recover and gain strength. I think he will have an off-season after Paris, where they place more focus on fixing his technical nuances, but until then, his snatch technique will leave him disadvantaged, but his overall strength covers his clean and jerk technical flaws well.
I hope you understand what I'm saying in that the US does not typically have such access to recoveries that is why they are rarely seen in the top half leader board in competitions but once an athlete has been realised typically once it is proper timing they will improve technique. We also have to think that in weightlifting in the US, it is more common to find a crossfit centre where not good technique is taught or when it is taught, then the athlete typically does crossfit rather than weightlifting exclusively. By the time the athlete is realised as a potential for weightlifting athlete, it is typically a pretty strong athlete with average or worse technique. Whereas in countries like China, it is more of a growing of athletes where they are picked when children and moulded into an ideal sport for their body. It is also more closely monitored with thousands of coaches across all provinces to inspect athletes and their level of skill, then they are moved up level by level until they have a national level coach and by then they have already been practicing the technique from the age of 6-8 years where as in the US apart from the couple outliers who got their potential realised early in their life, it is usually athletes in their teens or older who maybe realised too late to be professional in weightlifting so merely use weightlifting to improve performance in a sport that they could have a chance in or are more likely already doing. Weightlifting seems big in the US, but it isn't as they have likely 4 or 5 ball games, maybe running, swimming, cycling, bodybuilding, and powerlifting, before you even get close to seeing weightlifting in their popular professional sports. They more heavily drug test every sport than they do actual training and development, whereas in the east, it is typically the opposite, where they develop, and train as children before the chemical recoveries are implemented.
