She was a troubled person who had such a great gift that people ignored the price she was paying within herself for giving of that gift. I heard in several operas prior to the surgery [mostly Strauss and some Wagner] and the voice was one of the most beautiful I have ever heard in more than 50 years of opera going. She also knew how to act without moving very much [this is much harder to do than any non-actor or singer can imagine] which made her characters believable. I also saw her in her first post-surgery role [Salome] and, while the gleam and power of the voice was still present, it seemed that she fullness and golden tone has shifted to a sort of steel just barely glazed with gold. Unfortunately, this shift to an exposed steely core continued as well a diminishment of her ability to maintain a legato line through what had been a perfect breathing technique. I think that she pushed herself [or was pushed by others] into returning to singing before fully reworking her breathing technique and this defeated her in the end.
He is a great performer. in their gestures is a great performance and almost makes me smile to know that there is a nostalgia sensasion as often happens when we suffer the loss of a loved one and only atinas pleasantly remember what happened to that person, and gets a slight smile the face because they were great memories so I think deborah voight makes a fabulous acting.
If you read her recent autobiography, these performances were in the depth of her alcoholic crisis. It's amazing she could pull herself up enough to sing even.
Brava!!!, great beautigul and warm voice of Deborah Voigt!!!...for me one of the best ever, and now a days the best!!!. Brava, hope we can have the joy to hear her in person soon at Lima, Perú!!!
She look FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will agree that something is going on with the voice. I was a classically trained singer who also had weight loss surgery in 2004...it took me a long time to be able to sing again. After loosing 250 lbs, I could not get the breathing right and everything felt sooo different. It was only last year that I was able to perform back to the degree that I was post surgery. My voice sounded 100% better though.
I think her interpretation of this is very good! Voight was a good singer with a good voice. I personally always preferred her in Italian roles to Wagner or Strauss.
Such a fine singer, such a lovely artist vocally sacrificed because a producer wanted her to fit into a black neglige - she lost weight in the aftermath of the scandal. To lose a couple of kilos slowly for the sake of one's health and stage flexibility is fine, but under those circumstances! Shame on the opera directors who always let producers have their own way - they knew well in advance who was booked for the role and should have costumed accordingly!
@Lindow ohohoh, I was actually trying to say why she was JUST smiling, making facial expressions without any (explicit) gestures I forgot to type the word "just", my bad :P Thanks for the reminder though :) :) !!!
Gosh she's rather flat on the high notes here! Never could understand Voigt's popularity to be honest. However, not having heard her live it's hard to make a qualified judgement.
Not to be compared to Tebaldi or Callas - it is not for her - lacked italian bites in her singing and her high notes are very bad. She should stick Wagner.

She rocks it! Plus, she is a really nice any genuine person!!! Love it!!!

I heard her at MET 2004 as Elisabeth in Tannhauser, a very great voice and a good performance as like this.
i think this is a totally captivating and expressive performance! loved it!
i don't know anything about opera, but this performance gave me goose bumps
beautiful Maddalena

Gastric bypass destroyed my voice.

WOW WOW WOW My favorite DV video on YT.

is it me or was that high note really flat?
If you have to ask, does it really matter to you?
Дебора,супер-стар!

But don't let that stop you from sharing your opinion...
Madalegna, Gioconda and other verismo roles are not for her, sorry to say that. She should stick to the german repertoire, which fits her very nicely.
I think she had a bad day here... She looks so very sad, if she will start to cry every moment...
The beginning is the most horrifying tale anyone could ever tell. Then a man lights up her heart with love.
Do you have any idea what this aria is about???
Yes, she looks fabulous but....Terrible high B natural and a weak chest register. No, Maddalena is not for Debbie Voigt.
must admit not one of my favourite versions, she also looks like shes going to burst out laughing any minute.
So flat, and that B natural was so badly produced.
This is not very good - her voice is not that great - her diction is lousy. she sounds awful.
Not to be compared to Tebaldi or Callas - it is not for her - lacked italian bites in her singing and her high notes are very bad. She should stick Wagner.
Nope. No chest development.
no.
Horrible!
