Had a new 68 Dart GT w/ 318 and factory 4-speed. B-racing green, black interior, buckets, red line tires and dog dish hubs.... all factory. LOVED that car. Parents wouldn't let me have a car freshman year in college so they gave it to my brother.
God, I wish I still had my 1967 Dart now. When I bought it for $500 it was just another 18 year old cheap used car. Today it's an iconic mopar in a world of plastic crap-mobiles.
My first car was a Dodge Dart GT convertible with a 273 cu in, 2 barrel carburetor. It had a 4 speed manual transmission and a 3.23:1 sure track rear axle. It was 2 door model with gold exterior and black interior with bucket seats. The convertible was black with a glass rear window. I overhauled the engine at about 100,000 miles, bored it out .030 and installed over sized pistons. It was not too good off the line but was strong once it got going. Top speed in 4th gar was 100 MPH at red line. I learned to drive in a 1955 Dodge Lancer with a 270 cu in Hemi engine. I often wondered what the performance would be like If i put that Hemi engine in the Doge Dart. The odometer failed about 150,000 miles so i am not sure what the mileage was when i sold it in 1983. I live In NJ so the bottom of the car was 50% fiberglass and Bondo auto body filler by then.
Funny how the Dart was originally touted as a women's car and an economy car, but ended up being an animal with 340 small blocks and a few with 383 big blocks.
I'd like to buy a new car, but there's nothing in the economy price range that I want---if the Dart and Valiant were still around, I wouldn't even hesitate.
Chrysler Corporation brought back the Dodge Dart by with the discontinued Plymouth Division there will be no Valiant unless it's made out of the Chrysler Division as a luxury model.
What happened to Mopar after the 60’s ended? Their cars from about 64 thru 70 were arguably some of the best Detroit had to offer. Good styling, great power plants, Chrysler engineering... Things looked rosie for them Their cars in the 70’s were terrible By the end of the decade they were bankrupt and only the govt, the K car and Iococca saved them
Up to 64 the 7 step dip & spray kept the upper body parts from rusting within. After that the dip did not upper cover upper fenders and shock towers. I have a 64 Chrysler 300K and it is relatively rust free for a Northeast salt belt car.
In Australia, we imported bodies of Dart hardtops in kit form and in 1970 in particular produced one of Chrysler Australia's rarest muscle cars...the Hemi Valiant Pacer hardtop....see link: www.tradeuniquecars.com.au/buyers-guide/1601/chrysler-vg-valiant-pacer-hardtop-1970-1971-buyers-guide
And the rear deck conforming to that rear windscreen... Grill, tail lights and bumpers were all just right, and were never improved upon. Chrysler sure had some handsome cars in the mid to late '60s and early '70s.
Yes, your all metal interior will keep you safe. Especially while downing those obliitory martinis. 🐶🐶🐶 It's suspension assures a tight quiet ride. Not like the chick in the back seat later at night.
Every time I see a side view of that car, I'm reminded of those early Redline Hot Wheels cars. I just can't see that car and not think "Hot Wheels". Not that I'm ripping on the car or anything... It's just those hubcaps with the Redline tires, I can't help but think about Hot Wheels.
Had a car exactly like it I put 70's tires in the front 60's in the rears I installed air shocks with an air valve in the trunk so I could raise and lower the rear end at will, with baby moons all around. Thats what we did back in a day jacked up the rear that could not exceed 24" above pavement and cops would measure it the reason for an air vave in the trunk so when I saw a cop I releasee some air an the rear would drop down. A fun car miss it, it was bronze in color a hardtop with Black interior was a nice contrast with the chrome trim. All US Steel
Ted Roberts Don't forget gas was VERY cheap then - COMPARED to TODAY- allowing for what your dollar could buy then. 25 pennies a gallon for gas common THEN!🤔
340 wasn't released until 1968. The 273 was the optional V8 in 1967 until late in the model year when the GTS began production with the 383 4 barrel. A big block in a 67 Dart is one fun ride! I know.
Dodge kept this Dart in production until 1976. Then they killed it and replaced it with the piece-of-crap Aspen...everything for Chrysler went down the toilet after 1976...
The entire automotive industry went down the crapper with the California Fuel Economy and Emissions Regulations being imposed nationally in 1975 . We've become the United States of California as they have the biggest influence in Congress.
Roy Cathcart Jr 1968 was the beginning of the end for performance. Very early smog reducing add-ons. Some examples of famous engine displacements changed: GM - 283 to 307, 327 to 350 Ford - 289 to 302

I had a 67 Dart 270 2dr hardtop with 225 slant six, great first car. It went to my brother who from it from CT to AZ 3 times for grad school.

Love these videos, thank you so much 👍👍 👍, reminds of my childhood, except this was the year I was born, don't remember but, So Awesome 💯💯👍👍👍
Those were the days! A sharp looking compact available in hardtops, convertibles, coupes and sedans! And six cylinder or v8 power, Wow!

At 5:25: "Hey! It corners like a big car?" What?

I have a ‘65 Dart and love it. All simple meat and potatoes. Slant six!
My favorite Dart....

Agreed...Nobody did compound curved glass like Chrysler Corp in those days
If people were driving around in Darts maybe there wouldn't be a huge problem with individual credit problems.
i wishd id had 1967 dart
I thought when he called the two couples over, he was going to introduce the Dart Swinger.
+Kenneth Southard It didn't become the Swinger until '69. :)
Using 69 to introduce the Swinger? Was that an interesting coincidence or what?
Kenneth Southard Back then, the word 'Swinger' didn't mean what it means today.
NovaMan 350 Ha! Ha!🤔😅🤣😁😉
I know that this is 4 years late, but that’s some funny shit right there, Mr. Southard!
Sharp looking 2 door. Not too big,not to small. Plus V8 power! Shame Chrysler builds crap now.

One of the under-dash fresh air vents, I believe the passenger side, is said to hold a whole six pack - of cans I presume...
Back then seat belts were lap belts only. You and the kids could get buckled in tight anyway, just no shoulder belts tho.
Not sure where they were recording 5:05 mins.
South america kept this design with a roof slant and called it a charger
i wishd id had 2 darts 1967-1969
The roofline was used on dart for the next 7 years
Those were the days when you could get a car like a A GT, a 340,.among others like a convertible, 4 door sedan, 2 door coupe,
Every time I see a side view of that car, I'm reminded of those early Redline Hot Wheels cars. I just can't see that car and not think "Hot Wheels". Not that I'm ripping on the car or anything... It's just those hubcaps with the Redline tires, I can't help but think about Hot Wheels.
Nice, but I'll take the 65 , It has a nice Styling.
i wishd id had 2 darts 1 green and one yellow
Just wish they had a better quality Quarter panels, they rust out so fast
This video was cheesee, but the car was great. I should have never sold mine. Great car. Anyone have issues with starters?😊❤
I wonder if any of those actors are still alive?

I had 1967 GT V8 in the '90's. Stupid me, I gave it to a girlfriend.
225 power for everyone. 340 power for people who liked shell oil company.
