    My first car after going into the military was a red / white vinyl top 68 Dart GT with a built 340.. built by a local speed shop and dynoed at 425 h.p.. close ratio 4sp and a 4:56 posi rear end.. i purchased it in 71.. A blast to drive.. Never got beat in that car.. This car in the video reminds me a great deal of mine...

    I’m building a 75 dart 440 big block. Awesome to bring older cars back to life!! Please do more classics in this channel.
    Btw beautiful car garret!

      TheDustyaman I wish I had the money and resources to rebuild a classic car 😩

      @burfurger3074 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why wouldn't you just build a stroked small block? Save some weight up front?

    • @TheDustyaman
      @TheDustyaman 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      bur furger um maybe because the car isn’t going to go around corners like a vette. It’s just going to be a weekend racer and drags trip car.

      @@TheDustyaman cool....to each his own.

      bur furger well the stroker would be way more expensive than what I have in the 440. With all the parts I have in the 440 that came with it I will have maybe 1500 in it with around 475 hp. I got this engine for a steal. Especially with the parts it came with. I think I’m fine with the 440.

    72 Dart Swinger 318 hardtop was my first car. Just sold it 18 years later last summer. I miss it.

    A 73 Dart Swinger was my first car and a 69 was my second. I'm pretty happy to see a TH-cam video with young bloods talking about it... influence away my friends

    Thanks for the video. I had a 1969 Doge Dart with a 340 V8 4 speed manual. I loved that car.

    As another BC boy, I really like this video. I was your age in the 80s and I had a great mechanics teacher too in high school. I started with a pristine 68 Dart 318 and converted it to a 360 4 speed (rebuilt in shop class). That engine was a torque monster for a small block. I beat 340 auto Darts (never raced a 4 speed 340) and 86-87 5.0 Mustangs (5 speed) consistently. I'm pretty sure the 8 3/4 I put in had 3.23 gears, because I could pass my buddy with a 400 TA topped out at 130 MPH, like he was standing still. I surprised a lot of people in that car and most didn't believe me that it was a 360. A 4 speed wakes up the 318 a bit, but it's night and day with the 360. I had a 318 4 speed and the 360 was so much more fun. My 360 was out of a 75 Dart Sport, 0.060" over, headers, mild cam and intake manifold. I wish I had the chance to go against a 340 4 speed. I drove a 68 Dart with a 340 4 speed and it pulled to 6000 RPM, but the 360 pulled harder to 5000.

    The 318 came with a 2 barrel carb. Mopar used the single barrel on the slant 6.

    I am currently in the process of building my '69 dodge dart western sport special, into a road course ringer/ daily driver. Taking advantage of the 2,800 lb weight, with a modern 5.7 hemi, Tremec 5 speed, and coilovers front and rear. My total cost in parts is just under $20k, it will run under 12 secs in the 1/4 mile, and turn corners. Eat shit big block lovers.

    • @frigglebiscuit7484
      @frigglebiscuit7484 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      ok, and? thats hilariously easy to do with a turbo small block la. its all fun and games until that hemi eats a cam , drops a valve,etc...plus, new hemis sounds like dog shit.

    first time finding your channel, love it! Have my Grandparents 63 dart with a 225 slant which has been sitting in my parents yard for 15 years. Turned it on for the first time two weeks ago. Needs work and new floor panels but I love it.

    In H.S. a friend of mine bought a 63 Dodge 3 speed manual with a 318. I was surprised how well that 318 punched between gears. This was around 1975.

    Your steering gearbox is shot. The A and B body mopars steering gets loose and sloppy as they get to about 70k miles. They are fairly tight and feel good before they wear out. All that loose steering and slop didn't come from the factory like that.

    Is it really necessary to cut the floor for the transmission Swap to the original 4-speed?

    Dodge also made 50 440 darts in 1968 they would wax the hemi dart on the street stop light to stoplight.

    Trow that intake filter to the trash. Even the OEM is better they tested that exact filter on Engine masters and it kills power.
