    Nice video, thank you. Can you list the details of the nuts, bolts, ratchet, and the drill bits you used to mount the cracker?

    • @TryNewThings
      @TryNewThings  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used 1/4" bolts, length will depend on how thick of board you go through or how much you counter sink the bottom. I used 1 1/4" long I do believe. Quarter in nuts and washers which use a 7/16 wrench or socket (need socket if you counter sink like I did). 1/4" drill bit was used for the holes as well. You could do a 5/16 hole just to make it easier to get the bolts through. Hope this answers all your questions, if not, hit me up again. I appreciate you taking the time to leave the comments.

    Boy that is pretty slick. Cool name too!
    "Maximum crackage" I dunno sounds like part of a plumbers joke lol
    I'm driving down to Augusta Maine tomorrow for the TYM show. Should be a good time. About a 7.5hr drive to get there. Looking forward to it!

    I had to quit using a hammer, couldn’t find anyone to hold the walnut’s anymore.

    On the cheap and with eye protection. You need 2 rocks. One as a hammer or a hammer. The important part is you need a big rock with a small bowl shape or a dip. If you use a flat one it won’t crack and instead go flying. I did that method as a child and even into my adulthood. Eye protection is a must. Wouldn’t hurt to have some wire cutters either. I did buy this nut cracker and I do recommend it. The price is steep though. Worth it yes. It’ll last a long time. I got mine in 2021. No problems at all with it. Still using it today. Remember to grease it though.

      Thanks for the great feedback and additional commentary on the Nut Cracker. When I got the nutcracker I had sooooo many walnuts, last two years have been pretty darn light, environmental factors? Hoping next year brings back a huge harvest.

    Well, which ones did you try and how would you rank them?

    Have you tried other nuts with it, such as Brazil, almond, etc?

    • @TryNewThings
      @TryNewThings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have yet to try other nuts, however the 'leverage' is very controllable so I'm not concerns of over-crushing other nuts. I have planted some Hazelnut trees, and hope to plant some Almond trees this spring, be a few years before those produce anything. 2nd thought I did try 'standard' walnuts that you can crack just by putting two in your hands and once, and those were super simple to crack as you can imagine. But no non-walnuts as of yet. Thanks for taking the time to leave a question, very much appreciated.

    How easy is it to pick them out?

    • @TryNewThings
      @TryNewThings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very easy as long as you give them time to dry appropriately

    Works real good, I see you have a bench vise on your work bench. Have you tried your vise to crack your walnuts, my Father in law used his vise to crack black walnuts.

      John, you know what, I never even thought of that. I bet that would work really well given that you can easily control the break. I'll have to try one just for fun now that you have brought it up.

      Hard to control it. These new walnut crackers seem much more efficient.

    • @TryNewThings

      It may be possible to swap handle to the other side. I have not looked into that. Although works for me. Prefer my coordinated arm handle the walnuts while my left hand pulls the lever. Thanks for the feedback.

    • @gregb.-sj5vp
      @gregb.-sj5vp ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have one for cracking hickory nuts and it works excellent. To answer your question, the handle can be threaded into the left or right side of the rotating shaft. I’m a lefty and have my handle on the right hand side so my left hand handles getting the nuts in and out of the cracker. And BTW, this thing is made in the USA. Well worth the price.

      @@bobinmissouri thanks so much for the feedback, it was odd (I thought) that I had such a bounty last year followed by literally a handful of nuts this year. Looking forward to getting back to bounty next year :) thanks for taking the time to leave a message, very much appreciate it when folks interact with the videos I put out.
