I don't know how I missed this build, but I'm glad I found it. Nicely done, Chris! Cigar box guitars and ukes are a lot of fun to build and not overly difficult to play. I'm no musician either, but even I can make musical sounding noises with them. They're a lot of fun to sit and noodle with, and perfect for back porch picking and strumming.
Now that's one cool build for your son! Yes we (I) would have liked to hear how it plays from someone that knows how. Preferably your son. He could have made some background music for this video and that would have been a surprise for us. Oh well, maybe another time.
Very cool cigar box Uke... I've been wanting to build one... What scale did you go with??? Looks like it might be 15" from nut to saddle, making it a concert scale... Hope the kid enjoyed it...
The website say the fretboard is 13.7" (soprano). This guy says the instructions suggest cutting the fretboard (seems strange) making it a "mini", maybe?
Hey Chris! Nice job on that uke! It looks cool and I bet your son will love it. I get guitar parts from that cb gitty site, but haven't tried a cigar box build yet.
Would I be able to place the pickup piece close enough to the bridge if I were to use this method and electrify it? I know that the piezo needs to be as close as possible to the bridge and I'm not sure if an extra piece of wood would affect it.
Great looking build, nice! One thing just makes me scratch my head: At no point you were paying attention to get the right scale length, which is the most crucial part during the build of an instrument, so there's no way this pretty thing can be in tune ...?! Or did I miss something?
It is a kit... with instructions... IT very well could be that t is not in "tune" I know for sure it is not a fine instrument either! This is not a project for anything other than a rudimentary instrument ,if it would even qualify for that title. Furthermore I am not an instrument builder per say either I am just a guy with some tools. :) I built now with Bernadette who has commented in the comments below and she would agree with you that it will not be precisely in tune.
@@TheChrisPineWorkshop sorry I dont meant to critizise you in any way, I am just curious if the instruction manual contains anything about scale lenght/intonation ... if not I really wonder why they left out this part as it is crucial to get a playable instrument. I build cigar box ukes myself, and with that short scale length, you have to be super precise. If the string length is just a tiny bit off, the uke wont be playable. Anyway - nice build! cheers! :-)
no worries Pascal you did not offend me at all. I do not recall anything about that in the instructions and honestly I am not really sure what you are talking about. The pieces were all pre cut etc...
@@TheChrisPineWorkshop I mean of course I can't speak for that specific kit but in general when you see a bone nut or saddle it's made of cattle bone. Of course some companies could be selling a synthetic or something and lying about it but in general I don't think so
"Never had one lesson!" Hahaha. I love the Ferris Bueller reference. Good job.
Never had a lesson yet you play so well, haha. Great work, thank you..

Very nice Chris. I built a cigar box guitar from scratch about a year ago for a buddy at work. Lots of fun to experiment with.
Yes this was spurring how fun it was.. not hard at al really!
I am in love with this!
Chris thanks for sharing the kit build,we sure do miss seeing you as often as we used to hope all is well, all the best to you and yours
Thanks Ron!
You did a great job Chris, thank you so much for creating this video and sharing it here on TH-cam!
Thanks a lot!
Hope he enjoyed it after all your work
So what's the update on this one? Did anyone in your family tune it and play it? We are all anxious to hear!
Great project !!! you could post a video of your son playing the ukulele!

Thanks! They are relatively easy to make too! Lots of fun!
Excellent build, Chris! It came out looking great. And I'm sure it'll sound beautiful in your son's hands. It's nice to see you again.

Yes I agree. He is just beginning and is not that confident yet but I am working on him. :) Maybe soon.
I enjoyed your video, some day I want to try it.
Thanks!
I am no expert nor am I a musician, but it looked nice! The cigar box had some sound come from it, so I guess it works too. Great kit build.
Thanks Brian!
Howtocureacigar
So how does it sound? I'm going to be building myself.
Cool build Chris!
Thanks!
I have my kit ordered... cool box on the way too. Thanks OH what kind of wood inside the box Balsa???
This is very cool, thank you for the video, Chris!
Thanks a lot!
Chris, I appreciate the great build but I watched it so I could hear what CB Gitty's kit sounds like, Where's the demo?
Great project Chris !

I want to make one with steel strings. Any recommendations of one's to use?
I am not the luthier I may seem to be. :) I would consult with the company I bought the kit from... CB Gitty

Beautiful! You should do a collaboration video with Bernadette teaches music !
Found one at a garage salw but it didn't have any frets
You basically only need to learn three chords.
Nice project
Really! Maybe I should check it out. :) Thanks for watching and commenting.
Ehhh sure if you wanna keep it basic. If you want it to sound good id learn more.
how to ensamble cigar box ukelele
Nice Chris, you better get some lessons from him.....lol.
Thanks Mike! yes perhaps! :)
It is literally bone
I think in past times and probably sometimes currently it is. I don't thin this kit was but I truly do nto know. Good question! :)
