    I love this movie but I think what I love most about it is probably the fact that all of the actors that played the drag queens were some of the most badass guys in Hollywood at the time so I think it's really freaking cool

      I just commented on another video that that is indeed the most impressive part. Not only are they the zenith of early nineties masculinity, they are totally and utterly their characters. You never see anyone but the girls, and honestly all three main performances were oscar-worthy.

    The whole town coming to their defense is the best moment. They all know now and they don't care. They see them for the people they are and the positive changes they've caused. Its beautiful.
    Bring on the disagreements and nay-sayers. I've said my peace.

    • @cisio64123
      @cisio64123 3 ปีที่แล้ว +77

      Yes this was truly the most powerful moment in the film. The whole town now realizes the truth and that yes they had been mislead by the drag queen trio, but the vitriol the Sherriff is spewing makes them instantly understand why and forgive them. With having gotten to know and befriend them it makes them stand up to protect them as their own . It's also wonderful when Vida is trying so hard to confess the truth to Carol Ann but she lets Vida off the hook by revealing that she had known from the night they first met having been clued in by Vida's Adam's apple . It's touching for Vida to learn that she had totally accepted them from the beginning and had kept their secret so well they hadn't even known she knew .

      This movie is so beautiful and touching. We are all spirits having a human experience, and that’s kinda what everyone learned both the ladies and the townspeople. The thing that I really appreciate is just how REAL the townspeople look.
    Like, I feel like I could meet any one of these people, walking around my city. None of them look like actors you'd find for a Hollywood movie, and extremely human.
    And they still SLAY! It's like the movie is telling us all that, yes, even YOU can be fabulous and amazing, even if you aren't Hollywood glamourous.

    “Changing the way things have always been” my butt! The farther you go back in history the number of differences between mens’ clothes and womens’ clothes shrink to zero. When all humans were nomadic hunter/ gatherers there was no point. The differences didn’t start until society had time to develop and stabilize into various cultures with traditions, social norms, specialized occupations, and class systems. In other words, a few hundred to a few thousand years.

      The majority of human clothing was flowy drapy robes and togas etc. In the history of evolutionary fashion the concept of men wearing pants is very recent and new. It does kind of make the bible verse pertaining to "wearing clothing meant for men or women" when it basically is a rule for the Jewish people not every other religious group or culture at the time. Unless God is staying updated on the lates fashion trends over the course of human history but if he were would he not keep the human race updated on what exactly the acceptable fashion trends are supposed to be?

    Ya know, I know the characters are specifically drag queens (though Vida might be/is implied to be trans as she was based off of the transgender character in Priscilla Queen of the Desert) but the undercurrent this scene has and the message that it can mean to the trans community is so powerful

    • @PowerDiva
      @PowerDiva ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't think he gets enough credit for his role in this movie. He knew how to play an unconventional villain. Take this scene - the deflecting tones in his voice when he raises it at certain parts... all character choices that make him 100% believable. When he starts getting heckled and backs away, just little details like when he spins and drops his megaphone. These are all little details most people won't even consciously notice, but they are all things that solidify the moment and the character. This is what actors do and what makes people like Chris Penn great.
