    Splendid work! I have a sawmill and dry kiln and I sell dried hardwoods. I have a customer who has become a good friend and he lets me use his awesome home wood shop whenever I want to. He has the very oscillating spindle sander that you are using in that video. I love using his shop and look forward to the day I have a decent wood shop of my own. Great vid!

    two thumbs up. We've built hundreds of doors, and developed good techniques. Your methods are great. I like how you used the W&H to do the deep RP profile. never thought of that.

    Great job with great tools. Love it.. I too like the way you used the molder for what you did. Do you ever have to straighten out any stiles for bows or slight twist when making doors like this? If so, how do you do it? It is really hard to get perfectly flat stock. I am getting ready to make some doors and these stiles have me bothered more than anything else and I am using KD quarter sawn white oak to minimize all this, but it sure won't prevent it.

    • @whitacrebespoke
      @whitacrebespoke 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Prob to late now but joint them really flat I will often use 65mm stock for a 50mm finish external door. That gives me enough to machine flat straight and true with no twist bow or cupping. When you assemble final piece make sure your bench is flat and preferably level that way your certain your not clamping a twist into the finished piece.

    I don't think you have enough machines, and your disk sander is a kinda small. But that is a work of art. Like the sistine chapel of doors.

    I learned at school first make all parts longer then needed (to avoid snipe, tearout on shaper and so on), then cut horisontal parts in lengt, make tenons, then mark the vertical parts, rout pockets and lenght gets cut after gueup - here he needet to come up with some kind a extention to rout pockets.

    Yes the Virutex machine could be used on the rail ends if you made a jig for the clamps to land on and yes the Domino machine would have been faster and just as strong so yes I would have used it if I had one.
    Thanks,
    John

    • @postholedigger8726
      @postholedigger8726 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You did just fine with what you had. Most importantly, the ability to design and build the jigs and fixtures required far outweigh the purchase of an off the shelf tool.

    Very smart set up very smart door. I make doors and gates and love watching others work. I've seen those little moulders before and thought they were maybe a bit of a gimmick seeing you use yours has made me think about maybe tracking one down (not sure they ever made it to the UK though). You Oliver bandsaw is a newer version of my very old machine lovely old tools. What make/ model is that panel saw/ beam saw that really is a cracking tool.

      I realize that this comment is 6 years old now, but, if you had to replace all of the equipment in the shop depicted in this video, you'd probably be looking at double your estimate. I mean ... this shop has a drum sander in it that can handle an entire door! I worked in a shop like this, years ago, and I miss being around all of that nice high-quality equipment.

    This is how you make MONEY>>>>>>> and then you get to buy TOOLS like those so you can make that much money even faster. I'm sure you could do all that stuff with other tools, it just take more time then you could make off the job to be worth it.
    The only thing that might top this is the big CNC Router Mills. And your talking a lot more money, but then you'll also have a lot more machine to use and options you can't do with the tools he has, Like serious wood carvings beside the mill work.
    Nice work Live the door. Its beefy and no one is going to kick that in any time soon, not without a sore foot might as well kick a brick wall.
