I went to the French match and watch the English match in the pub and enjoyed the great win but I think the overall feeling was that something important and good had just happened or had come to pass. It did help that we stuffed England but in truth I don’t think they were up for that match at all, perhaps deep down they are decent blokes and played their part in the healing. As a footnote I was delighted that we stuffed a team coached by Brian Aston as he was very disparaging about the Irish team when he was in charge of them and famously said after we lost a match “ I don’t know who’s game plan they were playing but it wasn’t mine”. Ireland used to be truly awful back then, glad those days are over.
