    I've watched 3-4 existing explanations of this game and this was the clearest answer. I've heard a lot about how easy this game is to learn and all the other explanation did not leave me with that feeling. This video did.

    Best explanation for this game. You showed everything very well. How to win. How many factories for the number of players. How scoring works. You count the tile twice if there is a row and a column. And how the penalty grows the more tiles you have in the floor. You add the numbers above the tiles that fall to the floor. Also, how used tiles are discarded until all tiles in the bag are used, and then all discarded tiles are placed back into the bag. They don't always go back into the bag when used.

    IDK if you still look at comments, but I’m New to this game and have a couple questions:
    1. Do you count the points for columns multiple times as you go down? Like if I have a column of 2, but then on my next row I put in a third, is that 2 for the first column then 3 for the next? Or 3 for both?
    2. Do you count the same rows and columns over and over each round?

    • @MeepleUniversity
      @MeepleUniversity  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Weston. The simplest way to think about it is that you trigger a score each time you place a tile on the right hand wall. When that happens, you score for connected tiles in the same row and column as the tile placed, and only for those.
      So, if you had a board that looked like this (O is empty, X is a tile and Y is the tile you just placed), you'd score 3 points when you place the Y.
      OOXOO
      OOXOO
      OOYOO
      OOOOO
      OOOOO

    Thank you for the video. There is a part i dont understand:
    Statement #1 “Once one player finished an entire row of his/her wall, the game end is triggered.” Okay i think i follow so far.
    Statement #2 “In end game scoring, players will get additional points for every row of five tiles completed in their wall” But But you said the game ends as soon as one person finishes a row? So that's only one player?
    Statement #3 “In the event of a tie, the player who has completed the most rows in his or her wall is the winner” But you said the game ends as soon as one person finishes a row? So that's only applicable if one of the players in the tie is the player who finished their row and triggered the end??
    Is that correct?

    • @MeepleUniversity

    I don't know if its been way too long for you to answer this question, but I am confused on one thing. I see that you said that when one person has a horizonal row the game is over, but then in the bonus points section you can get bonus points depending on how many rows you have. So how does that work if only one person has one row at that time? I hope you get what I mean. thank you!

  • @donpaganini3337

    All other factory tiles have been taken and you are the last to play. If only the pile in the center and the first player start tile remains with those tiles, does the last person have to take all the tiles and be penalized the maximum of 14 points, or can he pass and return all tiles to the cover? Who then would start the next round?

    • @MeepleUniversity
      @MeepleUniversity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Josh - you must take a turn if one is possible, and cannot pass. One of the key strategies is avoiding being left in a position where you have to take tiles you cannot fit.

  • @GilHodgesPodcast
    @GilHodgesPodcast 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You said the tie goes to the one with the most rows. But doesn't the game end as soon as someone has a full row?

    • @MeepleUniversity
      @MeepleUniversity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The game ends at the end of the round when someone has at least one full row; so if you complete multiple rows in the final round, you can win on this tie-breaker.

    If you have a solid blue tile on the wall (right) in row 2, can you refill the two slots (on the left) with blue again to avoid placing them into the floor slots? That is how I played it (first time last night) and just returned them to the box after the round was over (to avoid the floor). But after seeing this, I think maybe they just need to go directly to the floor if you are unable to place them in another row on the left.

    • @MeepleUniversity
      @MeepleUniversity  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alex, yes they have to go on the floor. You cannot start a row on the left unless it will ultimately be legal to place it on the right.
      This gets trickier on the reverse side of the board since you also have to account for the columns (e.g. if the only spaces remaining in a row on the right hand side are all in columns which already have a blue in a different row, then you can't put blue in that row on the left).

  • @lindabailey7241
    @lindabailey7241 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I must have missed something. You said once a player fills/completes a row the game is over. Then in scoring it is said something about the player with the most rows filled. How can that be to have more than one row filled, it that is what triggers the end of them game. Help me understand.

    • @MeepleUniversity
      @MeepleUniversity  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Linda. Filling a row on the wall triggers the end of the game, but you will finish the entire scoring phase in that round for all five rows - making it possible to complete multiple rows in that same final round.

  • @NeebyPls
    @NeebyPls 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If the first player to make a row ends the game, how can there be scoring for rows? Who else would have a row or even multiple rows completed if the first row to be finished ends the game?

    • @MeepleUniversity
      @MeepleUniversity  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi Shaneese, thanks for your question. The first completed row triggers the end of the game, but you keep playing until the round is over, i.e. no tiles left to be taken. That way there is still time for multiple rows to be completed.

    when you score do you count every tile again or only score the new ones added to the pattern board??

      Hi Kennedy. You will count every valid tile again each time you score - so the tiles you place early in the game will score several times if you build up the pattern in the optimal way.

    How’d you get a blue on the floor tho

      Paul, I assume you mean at the mid-game display at 1:44? Clever catch - it was there to demonstrate a floor line which already had tiles on it. Strictly speaking no rule is broken - you can always choose to put a tile on the floor line if you wish - but certainly here there would be no reason to do so.

    surely this game only makes sense if the tiles are ceramic, not polymer

    You mentioned you can have the same tile color on the pattern lines. But to be clear, that can't be done in the same turn correct? So your example looked like you just filled the black with blue pattern tile with the pattern lines, then you had an extra black with blue tile and then put that in the one slot. That's not how it goes right? It should be if you collect 4 black tiles, but only have a space for 3, then you discard the extra one. But then next round if you collect another black tile, you can put it in another pattern line?
    Also, to be clear, what are the game phases after set up. This is the most confusing part to me. Is it:
    1) Pick same colored tiles from display or center
    2) Place in pattern lines, put any left over on floor
    3) Next person goes
    4) Keep taking tiles until empty
    5) Once all empty, transfer to wall
    6) Tally up points as you're transferring to wall
    7) Clear your floor and the completed pattern lines
    8 Start over to step 1.
    Keep doing 1 - 8 until someone gets a row filled, and but until all tiles are completely gone following steps 1-8?

      Hi Leslie-Anne. Yes, you're correct - our example was a little bit indistinct. On each separate turn, you may only place tiles on one row (plus the floor). The one black tile placed on the top row would have come from the next turn.
      Yes, your sequence of the same is correct - except that once all the tiles are completely gone (i.e. on player boards or discarded), you reshuffle the discard tiles and keep playing.

    @3:13 = wrong.
    Rule book: "If all spaces of your floor line are occupied, RETURN any further fallen tiles TO THE LID..."

      Hi Jeffery, thank you for watching. The statement is correct regarding returning any further fallen tiles to the lid, we just did not mention in the video. Thank you for adding that information. 😀

      @@MeepleUniversity You mentioned, in verbatim, "If a player runs out of space on the floor, keep adding tiles TO THE FLOOR" and adding "but you will not loose any more victory points for them." This is wrong because any excess, you put back to the lid. You don't KEEP ADDING them to the floor. But your video is still one of the best tutorials of the game I've encountered. :)

    In spite of what your shills say, this game still makes no sense. You're skipping steps in your explanation.
    The printed game rules, when decipherable, skip steps, too.
    After struggling with this for a couple of days I've decided to make up my own rules.
