American Airlines Boeing 777-200 Business Class (Flagship First): Dallas to Madrid

The 777-200 seats you reviewed are Flagship Business (not Flagship First). Flagship First is a separate class on 777's to LHR, GRU, etc.

@@seniorsolotravel Your domestic leg would have said First Class yes. The Madrid flight was Flagship Business.

My trick is to never lay the seat fully flat, and stop at a slight angle so when you lie down you don't feel like tilting backwards.
