I remember this day well, I was 19 and lifeguarding for the summer. When I got off work I went down to the park with some friends and my brother to spend the evening with fellow deadheads. My favorite memory from the day was the jazz funeral making its way through the crowd just before dusk. We spent that evening hanging out with everyone smoking grass and telling stories. Thanks so much for posting this.
It was a beautiful night here in Atlanta..so many peaceful souls, all gathered to mourn as well as celebrate the life of Jerry Garcia.. I'll never forget all the love shown that night, just magical..
Very true. My last pics of the night were those images of candles on the ground. Some of the people, including me, were singing Dear Mr Fantasy. As I left the park, I walked past a guy on an apartment rooftop playing tunes on an acoustic guitar. Do an image search for Jerry Garcia Piedmont Park Atlanta, and you can find high quality versions of these images scattered across my old photo blog. Thanks for the visit!
Oh now that is just too wonderful! This was all pre-smartphones, pre-texting, etc., so I was sorry not to be able to share these around with the participants at the time. So glad you found this!
@jnf1222 I'm so glad you found it & enjoyed the memory. My favorite memory was the group of people sitting around the lit candles, softly singing along to "Dear Mr. Fantasy." (It's the scene in the slideshow where everyone is bathed in a yellow glow). As I was leaving the park, I heard someone up on an apartment roof, playing Dead songs on an acoustic guitar. Both of those are good memories for me. Thanks again for stopping by, and please send along any other folks who might enjoy this.
Good shit! I miss the fact that I never made it to any show while Garcia was still around while I had the opportunity. I tried but it just never worked out :/
Hey that's really nice - it definitely reminds me of the one I put on here. I was the DJ at the event in Albany and I remember the one song people wanted to hear the most was "So Many Roads." A local florist donated 1,006 red roses (the station was PYX 106.) That's an interesting cover of Baba O'Riley btw!
Remember the day well... I could not function at work..told my boss a close friend died and he let me take off early... I then went down to the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC and joined about 1,000 deadheads. We sang songs, hugged, lit candles, brought memory books and shared stories...
Hi. Any chance you have all your photos from this day posted somewhere? I think I found your blog with these still photos, but wondering if you have any others from this day that you haven’t posted online. I was there with my brother and some friends.
I'm pretty sure these were all that I posted. The rest are in a shoebox somewhere, but there aren't many that I didn't post. Better copies of the images in the video can be found on my abandoned blog here: is-3.blogspot.com/search?q=jerry+garcia
@@TheSanityInspector Thanks for replying. I checked out your blog posts. Even though my friends and I aren’t in them, it was still cool to see the photos. Made me wish I’d brought my camera that day. Oh well.

It's a shame these old videos are so blurry after 12 years; these pictures were in focus when I created this video.
@sheezarainbow Glad you liked it!
@honeykatbaby Thanks for watching. Glad these pics take you back; they weren't inspiring anyone sitting in a shoebox in my closet.
@42MotleyLue Well, at least we have TH-cam these days! Thanks for watching & commenting.
