- Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston, and head coach Christie Sides answer questions from the media after the Indiana Fever 87-81 loss to Connecticut Sun in Game 2 of their first-round series.
It's best-of-three so the series is over -- and no, the Fever did not get a home game. Game 3 is not necessary.
The Fever led by two with 2:05 to play, then were outscored 12-4 to close the game. Clark (25 points) and Kelsey Mitchell (17) played the entire game. Boston was terrific and added 16 points and 19 rebounds.
The Sun's experience, defensive versatility, and toughness won out. The Fever's season was a success - going from 13 wins to 20, the first playoff appearance since 2016 and reigniting the fan base.

This narrative should end. CC has said numerous times that she grew up dreaming of playing in the WNBA, and she’s a student of its history. Why would she go elsewhere where the skill level and play quality is less than it is here? She doesn’t strike me as a quitter and that’s what she’d be if she left. She’ll come back next spring better and more confident and hopefully a better defender. She’ll get more calls from the refs simply because she’ll no longer be a rookie.

They came to the conclusion that 57% of the flagrant fouls were against CC. Is that rookie treatment or obvious bias by the leagues front office. Apparently all the rest of the rookies deserved 43% of rookie treatment. I call complete BS on that.

They are not just incompetent - they were biased very clearly. Two flagrant fouls against Caitlin right in front the of face of the ref who was looking straight at them and no call. This is not something a young team should have to put up with.

In a different play even the announcer stated it was a foul but none was called. The refs need to be evaluated for their calls because we're not just talking about a game but player's careers.

Christie isn’t horrible she just does some extremely questionable things. Like having Caitlin guard Mabrey in game 1 and having Fagbenle guard Thomas today. Those were horrible decisions.
GM may retire. Coach is fine; do not lose her.; her out of bounds play calling was top tier, the roster was sorta hard to figure except for two then three players. But mostly figures a good mix.
Changes??? Prolly could use an athletic strong big who “makes the makables” most / ALL of the time.
Another scoring type defensive valued guard to help give cc and km some breathers. Maybe Grace can develop into that.

Give her a break. Half-time probably felt like a day ago. They're still processing the loss and their season was over. I'm sure at this point they're having mixed emotions. Plus Sides was being interviewed at half-time so there wasn't a lot of time for her to do much but to tell them to keep on doing what they were doing. Other then changing guarding assignments what could they have done besides making their shots?

Tough game. They had their chances refs were favoring Sun both games. Good season overall much improved. Won’t be watching rest of games.
I rarely complain about reffing, but man this was tough to swallow with the foul and free throw discrepancy between teams and then to see the non-call on Caitlin getting hammered by Mabrey and not provided a landing spot by Bonner.
Then two games in a row having to call timeout for a review to correct mis-assigned fouls.
Ugh.

You can’t win a game with just 3 starters/players. The Sun played at least 8 players in their rotation. You can’t beat 3 on 8. The Fever need to build a better bench to help with the starters this offseason.
They have several bench players that are good, it's the coaches job to keep the best team rotation on the floor.

Along with a coach and gm. Mitchell could easily be gone as well. She had 9 TOs in the last 2 games and clark and 5. It isn't what you want from your shooting guard. She has almost been trying to play the 'i can do that too' game with Clark. Thomas and Dumars used to do that until they were sat down to figure out they couldn't do that if they wanted to win. They were still pretty competitive about it, but that talk needed to come at lot earlier in the season.
And I am not. I wish CC leaves, if she is smart.

I don't know what happened to my last comment about the Fever's weaknesses, but I forgot to add the simple fact that overall, as a new WNBA/Fever/Caitlin Clark fan, I had a wonderful time watching forty four games, pre-season, regular season, playoff, became a big fan, and cherish all of the drama of those games. And I became a big fan of Boston/Mitchell/Hull/Fagbenle...a good team for next next year: May can't come fast enough.

CC and Ref have a very unique relationship similar to Steph in the NBA. This dysfunctional staff dont want to recognize who is the golden goose. They emotional bias and its been like this for the whole season. Terrible and probably the worst REF in any sports.
Since Coach Sides publicly said that the hateful fans were bad this year probably MORE should have been explained that Caitlin has had hateful trolls harrassing her since high school and college and all through the WNBA. It was not just her other players for the first time this year being harrassed and how Alyssa Thomas made it sound like it was just Connecticut Sun plays attacked. If this horrible social media problem was going to be addressed tonight there needed to be a well planned out speech to support ALL her Indiana players. After seeing Alyssa Thomas comments tonight that ALL fans of Caitlin Clark's need to leave the WNBA... Coach Sides needed to explain that Caitlin Clark fans are coming from ALL races and ALL religions and from all over the world. They are not just ALL trolls and racist. Plus, there are other players fan bases like Angel's, Swoopes etc that are attacking Caitlin and Iowa and indiana. This is going to snowball after Alyssa Thomas and owner of Washington Mystiques, Angel Reese, Sheryl Swoopes are now starting down the path of making sure that Caitlin Clark fans and Caitlin Clark herself are destroyed. Good people, good families, great children, will be made to feel lumped in with trolls and fake accounts and racists. At the Connecticut first game of the playoffs against Indiana Connecticut did a "First Year Fan of the WNBA 2024 Bandwagon Cam" then put the camera on #22 fans of families and children etc that were at the game and made fun of them until they read it and sat down. So sad if everyone will now think that they were right for years to not watch the WNBA because it is just a mean bully league and they leave and go back to just watching women's college basketball.

I love how far this organization came. Be proud. The Suns and the Liberty are beatable and the Fever has exactly what they need to beat them. Stay united. Keep rising and elevating your game. Caitlin Clark seems to now have become the most watched, scrutinized, and judged young woman since Princess Diana. Caitlin did not make a political statement... she was set up by a woman saying that she saw Caitlin's "like" on Taylor Swift's photo holding a cat that said to Go Vote. The woman was setting Caitlin up in a no win situation by asking who Caitlin is going to vote for. This woman and a man have been throwing out no win questions at Caitlin's other press conferences, too. Either way she would have answered would have made 50% of fan base mad. Caitlin responded well and just said that it is important to "Go Vote". These questions are Caitlin's own business. Press should only be allowed to ask BASKETBALL questions. Caitlin is 22 years young! She has lived her short life in a gym. She is not a political figure. What else are they going to throw at her to try to lose fans... religious questions next?? Abortion?? World peace??
That's partly on Caitlin. She tries to hard to be accommodating. Those sorts of questions need some version of "I'm just here to play basketball. Next question" response.

Refs were a total joke.
FFS, why continually give the other team credit. Ahead with 2 mins (after all the refs were playing for the other team) is coaching. Sides can't admit that she is the weakest link and out of her depth. The Fever need to be on ref watch all next season or there is no hope.
Exhibition games with other league and go to the beach with the team. Charity works and going to to the gym to build those muscles.

I'm New wnba Fever Fan...... I don't understand why there playing at the SUNS Stadium Normal Playoffs go back and forth each Game
The first round playoff is two games at higher ranked team and third game, if necessary, at other team.
In the next two rounds, it’s best of five games. Nobody plays back and forth for each game. The best of give series will probably be two at higher seed, two at lower, and last at higher, if necessary.
This league has never, ever, turned a profit. This setup saves travel and accommodation money.

CC can’t ever look at Sides, I’ve never seen her body language so strong. Sides is so incomparable incompetent. This new president needs a strong EXPERIENCED coach, who knows how to mold a team around a superstar. Having plays where Mitchell takes ALL the final shots and using CC as a decoy, put the nail in her coffin.
Great season, Fever. You improved greatly under Coach Sides. Keep it up. CC is the best rookie in WNBA history! Shout out to Alyssa Thomas and the Sun as well. Ms Thomas was an absolute force in these two games.
This was a good media session. I love Caitlin, but I also love Aliyah. Remember, she was the first teammate to break the ice when she helped Caitlin up from being on the floor. Always talking to Caitlin in the tunnel during halftime. Aliyah was just the best. It was fun to watch that grow into great basketball plays. Everyone in the Fever-go have a good break!!
CC is focused on game, good spirits and appreciative of rookie year. Stark difference from AT & DC in their post game blaming other players instead of celebrating their win. AT likely jealous CC had most assist for season.
I hope Caitlin does some broadcasting, maybe does a couple of podcasts, I bet she could even do a short season showThe Adventures of Caitlin Clark. I think she needs a break from basketball for a couple of months.

No one expected them to go this far this season. Great job! next season if the team sticks together there will be no stopping them! First time I ever followed a WNBA team. Thanks Caitlin Clark for making me a fan. Now I can concentrate on Football and The NY Yankees in the play offs. If anything since I am from NY "Go Liberty" now! that the Fever has ended!
As long as NBA pays the bills, there is no desire, inclination or appetite to improve the product. This physical bully ball is what the WNBA and not the skill, finesse or athletic oriented ball that could be available or at least a goal to move towards.
Spend the off season practicing fundamentals. Layups. Rebounding. Shooting. The franchise needs to make changes. They need to speak up about how this team was treated by the league as a whole. How the officials chose to serve as ambassadors for every opponent the Fever faced. Maybe speak about how Connecticut refused to upgrade to a larger arena to limit access for Fever fans. See y'all next year.

I know that Nike chose not to make a Caitlin shoe, but I wonder if they still owe her money. If she were now a millionaire and I was her dad, I'd advise her to get out of the league NOW, before she gets permanently injured.
If some of the Indiana fans were well behaved, maybe the Fevers had a chance. But the Suns were determined because they did not want to face the racism going back to Indiana. So the Suns dug hard.
