It is the place where the Mohawks (part of the Iroquois Federation) tortured and killed Sts Isaac Jogues, Renee Goupil and John LaLande of the Jesuits. From the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church. In the Mohawk village where the three saints were killed in 1646, ten years later Kateri Tekakwitha was born. She would become the Lily of the Mohawks and was canonized in 2012, the first Native American to be named a Saint of the Catholic Church.
