Another wonderful lesson on the Manly Saints of Christendom. I have learned so much listening to your well researched and most gripping stories of the lives of these men from very different times and places. Yet, they are themselves, not so very different. One and all, they are driven by their love for the Lord Jesus Christ and their desire to serve God and His Church.
I grew-up along the Mohawk River, 30 miles from the Shrine of the North American Martyrs in Auriesville, New York. It is the place where the Mohawks (part of the Iroquois Federation) tortured and killed Sts Isaac Jogues, Renee Goupil and John LaLande of the Jesuits. From the blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church. In the Mohawk village where the three saints were killed in 1646, ten years later Kateri Tekakwitha was born. She would become the Lily of the Mohawks and was canonized in 2012, the first Native American to be named a Saint of the Catholic Church.
