Call me crazy, but I like the design of it, and I like the idea of having so many info on the screen at all times, not having to press any buttons to know the exact date. And since it's Casio, you know it's going to be a sturdy and durable watch. It's basically a G-Shock in a smaller form factor. I'm planning on getting the green variant of the W-800HM.

Exactly why I love this watch. It has the durability of something like a G-Shock, for 15 bucks. The screen does get scratched up very quickly, but on this watch it really doesn't matter. To me, the scratches on this watch are just part of the deal.

I got this watch on discount for 11 USD. It was in 2010 and it's still on its original battery (2022). Personally I don't think you can find a better/more functional watch at that price point. The 100 m WR and 10 Y battery life combo alone is enough to make you buy it. For me it's been a loyal beater that's served me very well and still keeps accurate time.

I got one because I work as a lifeguard for a pool on a military base. I was diving down to the bottom of the pool (about 13 feet) to clean the filters and I found it stuck in the grate. I’ve kept it ever since. I agree it ain’t winning any beauty contest but it’s very functional and feels comfortable on my 6.5 inch wrist. Plus it’s only worth like 16 bucks but if I damage it then oh well, it’s got scuffs but I pulled the thing out of a drain filter so I’m not too concerned with its aesthetics. I replaced the strap with a thin nato strap for comfort. I’m use to wearing chunkier dive watches and other g shocks so this watch doesn’t feel too abnormal.

I'm agree with your points , but i still like my W800H, because it is a prefect simple diving and workshop device.
    1. i dont need a watch more unbreakable than my wrist , which G-shock does
    2. i dont need a big square LCD with fancy looking information , which AE-1200 does
    3. i dont need a small square face but with a rectangle LCD, which F91W does
    4. i dont need a thick rim like someone's surgery lips, which W218H does
    5. functionally, i need a durable light comfortable device , which i dont even need to take it off during months.
    6. aesthetically, i need a humble masculine watch with a square LCD, which can fit my 5.5 inch wrist.
W800H is not a good looking dressy or fashion watch , it is a cool looking functional device.

800 is my fav all time Casio. Why? Get stuffed, It just is mate. I find the Royale has too much useless junk on its screen. Owners often remove all the text with nail polish remover. I’m not a fan of the little “analog” hands circles they do either. I have a DW291 with the same circle on it and it’s pretty useless and design fluff. W18 is next on my list though. Gshocks are too bulky for me when using chainsaw. The bands are too stiff and dig in to wrist.

I think the W800H is a great watch for being as cheap as it is. If you are not afraid of doing a little bit of solder work you can enable the countdown timer and 5 alarms on it. It actually has one of the better side LED lights I have seen on a watch in a really long time. The LED is slightly under the plastic of the LCD so the light makes it from corner to corner making it almost as easy to read as an electroluminscence watch. The only other Casio watch that is modifiable like this W800H is the W96H, but not recommended since you will lose the boxes on the LCD in normal time keeping mode.

I use a square of helitape as a face protector every 4 or 5 years. I'm still on the first watch as it just keeps on going. Had a new battery & a strap about a year ago. Use the stop watch loads & the back light too. I wear it daily even when not working as it's worn for kitesurfing, mountain biking, snowboarding. The 100m water resist is important for me so I don't need to buy another watch for watersports. This is where the other watch loses out - 50m is no good for watersports.

I don't own it but like it for a few reasons. It has more features than many more expensive Casios, like an alarm you can set to a specific date and snooze. With a quick modification you can even give it a countdown timer. It has 100m of water resistance so it's going to fair much better than the w218 in aquatic conditions, especially after a few years of use. Like you said yourself, it has a bigger screen and even provides a full timestamp if you want to register a moment on a photograph.
I don't agree with you calling the screen cluttered, since it's much more simple than the AE1200 (which I do own and love).
The height and strap feel like a nitpick from you, since it's only 1 millimeter taller then the AE1200 and the strap is more appropriate than trying to emulate a diver's strap like the w218 and AE1200 do.

I love it. I have the ‘blackout’ version, on a black G-10, with black furniture, with black bull bars and a tempered screen protector. It’s a G-Shock in everything but name, at a fifth of the price AND it IS possible to change the battery, when that day comes around. It can take a real smack and puts your other G-shock to shame being a 10 bar over it’s 5 🫢. I owned a G-shock when they first come out and was mortified when the battery died as the first models battery was “embedded” and couldn’t be changed by the best jewelers in town. The second hand fell off my Tissot when I was using a hammer and cost me nearly 10 times the cost of the W800 to get it serviced and repaired. Only problem I have had, is that the clasp broke within a few months and has now been replaced by a NATO strap (cheap and easy to fit). Does everything I need and now sits on my wrist 99% of the time. Easy to read and has all the functions I need.

This watch is easly avaliable where i life and one of the less expensive ones. Togheter with the a163 and the A700, it was one of my first digital watches from Casio. The size, desing and color made it stand apart from the other two. the four button layout took me a little more time to get used to, than with the other two but in the end i still got it..

This is the watch I've worn daily for the last ten years, and it's a super tough beast. Screen is scratched to all heck, but the watch body seems indestructible. The strap broke in about half a year. I hacked a NATO strap on to it, but I agree with you... It's slightly too tall, particularly with the NATO strap underneath. The current strap is showing its age and the pins have started shearing out of the plastic, so will need a new one soon. I do love the screen size and modes though. F91W is too simple and small for me, but I don't like too much chunk around the screen. Will consider the W-218H though.

Those scratches are somehow our watch identity. We may recognize it just by those unique scratches. Everybody will have their own scratch pattern. Sounds funny but indeed for me. Btw for W-218H, i can tell you, it is simply awesome. Simpler yet more practical. Eg : More protective main body (protect the buttons from unintended side push, protect the screen from scratch when flipped on flat surface, louder beep sound, better strap & better LED light in the dark). Very recommended to have one.

So the month and year are clutter, but a world map isn't ? 🤣 Personally I like the more classic look of the wristband, I specifically wanted the extra information, and I think it doesn't feel remotely big if you're used to regular watches. Fair point that it will scratch more easily I suppose, and I agree someone who wants a budget g-shock should go for the other one (which also looks chunkier). But I want the extra water resistance and I fully expect a cheap Casio digital watch to accumulate scratches over time - they all do, it gives them character, like a cheap version of patina 😄

I bought a quite a lot of watches over the last few years, each of differing price points, form factors and overall quality. Personally I was underwhelmed by the F91 W. Just way too small and feminine looking for me, and I'm not particularly large. I bought the one on the left and while the strap certainly had much to be desired I much preferred its aesthetic quality and noticeable presence in comparison. I wish the resin case had ridges that protruded past the outer edge of the display just a tad bit to help reduce the probability of scratches and scuffs but overall I really enjoy the way it feels on the wrist. Very light and minimalist but still has a respectable size. However I personally think the Casio AE-1000 for the money is honestly the pinnacle of casino's more budget friendly lineup.

i have this watch. i like the look of the frame, it looks flat & cleaner than some of the other watches, for example that one you hold beside it in that video, the difference is then more apparent. i like the retro look, like the casio watches from the 80s. what i dont like is the year in the date in the display, instead they could have placed there the day of the week and the alarm, the time could then have been made bigger or additional features could have been added above the time display. another thing i dont like is the hourly double beep tone, i rather like a hourly single beep, but two beeps is one beep to much and annoying every hour.
its inexpensive and gives 100m water resistance, it takes showers no problem. the accuracy is ok, like 1second in 8 days. its not my favorite watch for the dislikes i have for it but for rough work its the suiting beater watch.

I have an 800 and I chose it over the 218 because the 218 is too bulky and if you want something like that just get the square G Shock, it's better. Plus the features of the 218 are the same as the W91F.
I PREFER the small, lightweight size and the crispness of the readout on the 91 vs the 218. I don't see the advantages of the 218-don't care for it. Get the 91 instead-excepting the backlight, of course.
I like the EXTRA info on the 800. And it's somewhat sleeker style. I DO agree that the strap sucks!
I think a thicker strap would have been batter here. But, since it has regular pins, getting other straps should be no problem and would correct the main shortcoming here. I also prefer the backliight of the 800 to the more orangey one in the 218.
And, the 100 meter WR seals the deal. A watch I can do whatever I want to including most water sports. A good all arounder!

After owning it for a while though, i realized i much preferred the module with dual time, showing time while going through functions, 2 times at once and better overall legibility. I had two of these watches. I got water in both of them because the pushers are too easy to press. I have a DW291 now and you'd think with the size of those pushers you'd always be pressing them but nope. No issues at all.

Shame I’ve never had a problem

@@Tim2pointoh I used to do maintenance and the watches would always get the pushes pressed. At the time I also had the W217H which I also never had an issue with. Unless Casio stiffened the pushers on the newer models.

A watch that tells the time, date, and has alarm clock for $15? What’s not to like ✔️

After I hacked it to get a timer I thought was missing, it's pretty good.

Simple, legible, compact, inexpensive and 100M resistant ... as far as aesthetics, wearability, etc.. it just depends on the taste of the person !!! Different watches for different folks 🤷🏻‍♂️

Is W91 and A1200 better than this??

    • @Tim2pointoh
      @Tim2pointoh  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Do you mean the F91w? Its not a better watch really but its more of an icon. I think the W800 is quite ugly.
I much prefer wearing the AE1200 than the W800.
Better??? Thats a personal thing at this price point.

Ya, not a fan either. Have a white 108 which is a great beach watch, just fun really. 218 for everything else. Had a royale, after the bond association wore off just found the other two were more legible and made more sense.

I agree - since making the video I changed my mind a little. I’m still not a fan of the strap, but the display details are great.
I’ve seen a project with the black out version on another strap and I think I could really love it then.

@Tim2pointoh the strap feels nice, but I know that I need to replace it in the future.
But I like this watch a lot. So much value! Display looks neet and I can read it ok

The watch is simply a better deal. That besides the larger face and better water resistance. I think it's a better option than the g-shock wannabe.

I’ve warmed to it / but the W218h is still the better one for me.
