Thank you so much for this! Made me ponder more deeply.

This was truly your most powerful episode! Even knowing the gimmick, this really gave me a "You Are There" vibe. Well done!

I'm a lifelong resident of the San Francisco Bay Area and honestly I did not know this was happening, I'll have to write to the governor and demand immediate de-escalation of this over reaction.
gosh, I wish I could do more...

I watched these episodes last night! We may not have sanctuary districts in the exact way shown but as you all mentioned we do have a lot of homeless encampments and beyond that we do have in the United States a massive prison system (often privatized) that essentially serves as a worse version of sanctuary districts. A lot of people in prisons are there for non-violent reasons and it would be better for them and for society if we focused on alternatives to prison. We treat drug use as a crime instead of a health crisis for example despite the war on drugs not working over the decades we have tried it. And then if someone serves their time but has a felony on their record they have to check a box when applying for jobs which makes it very hard to get a job that can support themselves. That has never made sense to me--they already did their time, they should have the opportunity to rejoin society fully and not treated like a criminal for the rest of their lives. I could rant about this for a long time but I think when looking at these episodes it's important to recognize that a lot of the characteristics of the sanctuary districts do exist today. They just look different and are talked about differently but they are similar in many ways and I think are worse in many ways too.

My brother did prison time for a non-violent drug crime, and it's made his subsequent employment much more difficult.
However, Oregon State has a program where ex-inmates who have a clean record for enough years can get their convictions expunged. He recently got help doing this and can move forward with a clear record!
