The oil he used is KPL. The first bottle he used (the silver label) is KPL regular and the higher viscosity oil (the yellow label) is KPL heavy. KPL has changed their labeling since this video so you won't find the exact same circle dotted look but rest assured it's KPL. Kershaw sells their own knife oil on their website so maybe that's why they didn't mention the oil he used? Not sure, but I know some of you wanted to know so there you go!
I have a feeling Kershaw puts a liberal amount of grease in the torsion bar channel to eliminate the possibility of the torsion bar rattling in that cavity.
Nice guide but you missed the blade stop and torsion bar placement. First maintenance on 20 year daily carry blade. After works like one of my new ones. Thank you
GREAT. Also, I love my KERSHAW 8100 FUNXION KNIFE. MAYBE ITS LOW PRICED BUT IT'S WORTH EVERY PENNY. THANK YOU KERSHAW. HOPE TO ADD MORE OF YOUR KNIVES TO MY COLLECTION. Your customer, me.
I have just jumped into this “hobby” and found myself buying a lot of Kershaw mainly because they are budget friendly. I cannot see me spending $100+ on a. Pocket knife. I do like the Spyderco brand the best but they are pricey. Perhaps one day when I can appreciate these knives I will spend more. As for Kershaw I have about 10 of their knives and enjoy each of them. Especially the leek. I know it’s mid-market but you get quality for your dollar.
As a new owner of a Kershaw Dividend in Magnacut, I'm very disappointed. Less than 2 months after buying the knife the torsion bar (fancy name for the paperclip looking spring) broke. I'm waiting for the new spring in the mail and have de-assisted the Dividend. I paid for MagnaCut, but the assisted opening was the creme on top. It appears replacing the torsion bar is going to be a regular part of maintaining the knife. I'm OK with that. Anyone know if there is an aftermarket torsion bar available for the Dividend? Something that would last more than 45 days.
It's possible the tip could be sharpened out. If you would like, our warranty team could try doing that. Just fill out a warranty form, print, and send with the knife for service. Or they can replace the blade for $25. kershaw.kaiusa.com/warranty
Any grease that you own will work. The function of the grease is more for having the torsion bar to be more quiet. So you dont need alot of grease in there at all. Just put some in there and smear it out so the torsion bar will not rattle. So any grease will basicly work.
Thought I would throw this out while I'm googling for answers. The Kershaw Secret Agent boot dagger non-sharpened side. Would anything but standard sharpening procedures work on the (strangely) non-sharpened side of this knife?
You should be fine. I’ve swapped blades between a cf leek and a teal aluminum handled leek, no issues. Though they were made around the same time period. Not sure if there has been any variation in specs over the long production history of the model, but I would think it will work.
If you don't have the patience to send it in, the first things I usually try are loosening the pivot screw a little bit (with the torx bit he mentioned), or just rinsing the pivot area with a little rubbing alcohol while working the blade back and forth, blowing it out with compressed (or canned) air, and applying a few small drops of oil.
I've loosened the pivot screw as much as I can without ruining the lockup and cleaned/lubricated the right areas. I am afraid the problem has something to do with the weird-shaped spring that provides the "assist" in assisted opening.@@khakicampbell6640
I have an oso sweet it’s pretty old, I tried to disassemble it, the pivot screw is rotating but won’t unscrew! It’s the first time I’ve tried disassembling! What would you recommend!?
It sound like the screw may be damaged. We recommend filling out a warranty form, printing, and sending with the knife for service. kershaw.kaiusa.com/warranty
my Kershaw leek’s spring/torsion bar just broke inside my knife and I tried to get the free replacement from Kershaw but they haven’t sent me anything. It’s been over a month of waiting and I even sent a request 2-3 times in case I possibly messed up something but nothing happened. What do y’all recommend? Switch to a different brand of knives? Like spyderco or benchmade
@@just9911 yeah man I was helped by Kershaw’s warranty so it’s great I guess it was just a freak accident or bad luck on my end but I think it’s a great knife nonetheless. But yeah am a spyderco user through and through.
Never had to take a #Kershaw apart! Why?! The only problem I ever had with a #Kershaw was the pocket clip on a Natrix. The other few I have are good. The Lifter is awesome!
I was looking for a tip on Loctite. It looks like the Kershaw comes stock with some sort of thread locker. Seems like you'd need something to keep the screw from moving. I'm going with just a dab of blue.
GONNA HAVE TO SAVE THIS FOR WHEN I GET MY DREAM KNIFE. NO ONE IN THE US WITH THE GOOD PRICES WILL SHIP TO CANADA, AND CANADA IS WAY MORE. I WILL.. GET MY COPPER LEEK ONE DAY! 🎉

backing out the screw is the best tip in this vid.
Kershaw and ZT are my go to knives . Nice detailed video.
I have that exact knife in carbon fiber. Nice vid

Very interesting! How would you repair a broken tip? I broke a tiny piece off and don't know what is the best way of making that invisible.
Thank you.

Lookin like doctor eggman from live action sonic wit that mustache😂great video tho
Leek ftw. I want a composite reverse tanto version. Not of a fan of the blade on my 1660cb.

It's beautiful.
Seriously.

If you want to sharpen a nonsharp edge. It won't have a profile for cutting behind it though. The secret agent has two sharp sides.
How do you get the pivot screw out when the opposite side spins free!?
can you swap out a carbon fiber leek blade 154 cpm for a standard leek blade half serrated

What size bits was used??
T6 Torx bits fit pocketclip, handle, and safety-lock screws on current model knives. T8 fits the pivot screw.

Spyderco all the way.
Kershaw used to have an incredible lineup… but lately (last few years at least) they’ve been disappointing.
