We had fun diving in to this and learning the things that make us all different. How do you celebrate? It’s also important to remember that the 4th of July is not seen as a joyous holiday for all, especially for the black community. Please consider supporting some of the black organizations I’ve linked in the description. I hope we can all continue to educate ourselves, and be an ally.
This was a really cool episode. Way to go. Excellent job. I love it that The Canadian and American sides of Niagara Falls share the fireworks. We do that here in August. More Later. Here everyone goes to the St. Andrews which is the traditional Shiretown for Charlotte County for Canada Day. We also call it July 1st quite often, more often than other areas I am told. The day starts off with the Sea cadets and dignitaries doing the Colours ceremony. (Raising the Flags) There is a huge farmers market and entertainment. Then there is a ceremony at Kingsbrae Gardens to remember the Afghan Veterans and those that didn't come home from that conflict. At 1:00 pm there is a big parade. There is often a concert at the KIRA Amphitheater, last year it was Jimmy Rankin. At night there are huge fireworks off the wharf. There is usually over ten thousand people that come down to St. Andrews to take in the celebrations with the locals. It is an active spot. On the 4th of july everyone heads down to Eastport Maine. Canadians included. They have much the same as St. Andrews but not the big concert. They usually have a US warship in for the Fourth with tours and the crew take part in the parade in the afternoon. And at night they have huge fireworks from the wharf. This year it didn't happen but I think they may have had fireworks in Calais as we could hear fireworks from our deck that sounded too many and too big to be private. In August the Town of St. Stephen and City of Calais celebrate International Days. With activities on both sides and a parade that alternates the starting side every year that starts in one country and ends in the other. The end of the festival is a really huge set of fireworks both communities share the cost of. At one point one side shot them off and the next year the other. However someone realized the cost of fireworks is a lot less on the US side than the Canadian side. So we get more bang for the buck. Literally. You guys should come down here and experience it. it's pretty cool. I imagine nowhere near as big as it would be up there with the cities and all, but it is good do. Also Eastport does the greased pole to get the flag at the end over the cold salt water. It's a hoot to watch. And there are fishing boat races and other stuff. This year is hard because everyone is missing their friends and family so much and there were not as much for celebrations. Though they had some on the US side. You guys could try Dulse, Moxie, Pal-O-Mine bars and Blueberry whatever from both sides for that. And decide who has the best lobster. Both sides here it's the best because the Bay of Fundy is much colder than the Gulf of Maine or the Northumberland Straight. And the colder the lobster the tastier the lobster, or lobstah.... We like Hellen's Restaurant the best for a seafood meal in Machais Maine but the best Fish and Chip is probably at the Red Herring in St. Andrews. And while you guys were duking it out up there and killing each other in the War of 1812 here we had a peace treaty between our communities. though the Canadian Island of Machias Seal Island is still claimed by both sides the Canadians maintain a manned lighthouse on it while the US side does bird watching tours on it. Sorry for the novel, but I love your show and being from a truly international community it is especially more interesting. We eat basically twice the treats and junk food everyone else does and before Covid-19 crossing the border was done multiple times daily.
I’m a Canadian living in the states and my favourite question I sometimes get from Americans is: “Do you have the 4th of July in Canada?”. I just smile sweetly and tell them “No, our calendars go from July 3rd to July 5th”. Most of the time I’m the only one laughing! 😂. Love you guys!
OMG that’s my history teacher. That’s Craig Zimmer. He was my teacher in grade 11 and 12. He is an amazing teacher and made learning history interesting and engaging.
In Newfoundland and Labrador, July 1st is Memorial Day. It marks the Battle of Baumont-Hamel. Over 800 members of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment “went over the top” on July 1st, 1916. 68 answered roll call the next day. July 1st is like Remembrance Day. It’s appropriate then to celebrate Canada Day after noon. The provincial list of holidays says its Memorial Day. More interesting Canadian facts!
This has been happening down the road from where I live for a number of years, with the longest being 10 days in 2018. So i can see why Jason would be shooting for 11 days, but ours was outdoors dealing with the elements. globalnews.ca/news/4034586/worlds-longest-hockey-game-reaches-final-day-theyre-troopers-they-wont-give-up/
In Quebec, Canada Day means, apart from day off, moving day as your teacher mentionned. St-Jean-Baptiste (June 24th) is it for us. Always fun to watch you guys. Thank you. I subscribed to Jason's 11 day
I'm in ontario, and we have a french Canadian club here that celebrates st jean baptiste every year. They have lobster and baked potatoes. It's great. My dad is french Candian so we also celebrate every year
I was born and raised in Windsor. It was called the International Freedom Festival and it used to and might still be the largest fireworks display in North America. Some place in Kentucky beat it one year but, Google still says Detroit & Windsor is "one of the biggest." And, it says in 2007 the International Freedom Festival split into the Windsor Summer Fest and Detroit River Days.
I was going to mention this but you beat me too it! You guys should definitely try to come and see it next year! Sidenote, have you ever seen the Canada house in Windsor?
I am glad I was sent here from Critical Eats Japan! My father's family was originally from Canada and had moved to Presque Isle Maine by the time he was born. He grew up only speaking French and moved to Massachusetts after the army and Korean War. He took us up only once when I was young. I have never been to Canada and really enjoyed your video, new channel to binge on! Thank you for great content and Critical Eats Japan for recommendation !!
I think I have a vague memory of Dominion Day. I would have been 14 when it changed to Canada Day. I also feel I've celebrated Canada Day more in the last 20 years living in the UK than growing up in Canada. Great to see the package from Paul @ Critical Eats Japan. I subscribe to you both! 🇨🇦
For the last question, I looked it up out of curiously because I knew many players in the NHL in the US were Canadian. The website I checked said from the founding of the NHL in 1917, when all four of its teams were located to Canada, to the current-day mix of 7 Canadian and 24 American teams 44% of the players in the NHL are Canadian which is the highest % out of all countries listed from the USA, Finland, Sweden, Russia etc. So even though the US won the most Stanley Cups, Canadian born players had a big impact on that.
great chemistry between you, nice teacher with interesting questions and a short appearance of Critical Eats Japan's package.👍 hope you two will be able to meet again soon and share the goodies
Us Canadians aren't as patriotic it seems haha. I'm 100% proud to be Canadian but yeah like Mr. Zimmer says we don't feel the need to celebrate it. i dunno. haha. I've been to big events and ive just stayed home watching netflix on Canada Day.
153 years ago, a bunch of, Irishmen, Englishmen, and Quebecers, led by a drunken Scot announced the ratification of the BNA act to form the Dominion of Canada, one big happy family; and like every good family, we've been bickering about who gets what and how much, ever since.
I live in ottawa all my life and its funny to me how when i travel around the country people tell me going to a Canada day in Ottawa is on their bucket list...for me its so normal to go every year...just a short bus ride away.
Great video! I really enjoyed the little girl cutting Daddy’s hair❤️Nice history lesson also! I loved the unboxing too! Japanese snacks there are no comparisons!
I heard some fireworks last night. It’s July 8th today. Lol. The 4th was crazy here. I just sat in my lawn chair in the middle of the street and watched people and their kids shoot fireworks. It lasted until 1:30 AM. People in Austin Texas do it big.
Critical Eats Japan said to come on over and have a look at you vlogs .I must say you two are funny to watch .Iam going to watch a few more to night ,some before and some from C-19 .Well done boys
Joe, we celebrate Victoria Day and never call it that! Everyone calls it May Two-Four. And it rarely even falls in the 24th! Canada Day has always been important to me and my family, even when it was Dominion Day. And *especially* when I lived in the US! 😉😁 Jason, I just subscribed to the other channel, I hope you get enough so you can monitize for your charity 👍
Yes TWO-FOUR lol And it has nothing to do with the date. 😁 For those who don't know,it's slang for a 24 case of beer. I'm in Manitoba so May 2-4 is all I've ever known in my life.
It’s never been a huge family thing for me either. I now live in a smaller community and here I would say family and/or friends spend a good part of the day together. When I was younger living in or near Ottawa I enjoyed going downtown. I got over that as soon as I had kids.
You guys are so entertaining! This was fun to watch! Nice job on the haircut! Looks good! I want to eat all of those Japanese snacks! Thanks to Critical Eats Japan!
I think the 11 day record for the longest hockey game was indoor. The outdoor record was the 250 hour game in Strathcona County, Alberta (Bloody Cold). I believe both were for Cancer charities so both were good.
I knew about the UFO landing pad as my father was born in St.Paul Alberta! 🇨🇦 As a family we would go out to my grandpas, he lived on a 1 acre lake front. Everyone living around the lake would do a firework show! My grandpa and dad did a wicked one off our lawn into the lake. He passed away and my parents now live at the house and we have continued our tradition and now my nieces are there to enjoy our big back yard holiday!
🇯🇵 CRITICAL EATS JAPAN!🇯🇵 ...THANK YOU for sending me here and introducing. Me to these LOVELY cool new dudes and sweet ass channel!!! I have been DYING to go to Japan for MANY years! I LOVE EVERYTHING JAPAN! 🇯🇵 I would be absolutely ASTATIC to try some goodies from you ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ being stuck inside alone would be SO MUCH BETTER with SNACKS! (Come on now, we all know everything is better with food!!!!) 🤗🤤🥡🍶🍥🍱🍚🍤🍜🥢 Thanks again for all ur awesome videos!! I watch them ALL!!!! 😍keep up the great work!!!👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽😻
We're gonna keep extending the boarder closure until they start dropping the curve. Probably on a month to month basis but I'd bet this goes on for a year or so.
Thanks guys! As always, you've given me some great chuckles! Good luck with your new endeavor, Jason! As usual, I spent my holiday comforting my beagle mix, Sadie, as all my neighbors on the lake love setting off fireworks and Sadie doesn't enjoy them at all! Have a great week, guys!
Joseph, I was like you, I grew up not thinking much of Dominion Day but I think in the last two decades it has really meant more to me. And with COVID, I was worried I couldn't have family when we were all shut down. But I said to my wife....by Canada Day we better be able to celebrate! And we did, I had my Korean Nephew in Law and my Niece over and it felt great to appreciate our country. Jason, I thought of you guys on the Fourth, and always do. The USA I feel at home in almost as much as home....almost lol
Cool... can't wait for you to meet, and eat the food. For Jason, I subscribed. Hope you do well with the new job. Love that Canada and U.S. share the holiday at the border. Didn't know that. Also, thanks to the teacher 🇨🇦
Guys that was so much fun to watch! Very cool that you had your grade 10 (not sophomore 😉) teacher run the quiz! We subscribed to the 11 Day Power Play channel too....good luck with the new venture Jason!
Great videos!! Look forward too watching more, Thanks to Critical Eats Japan. Hopefullyit want be long before y’all can get together in person again. lol
We have a parade, fair grounds, family BBQ and fireworks every July 1. Westville, NS, Canada. Families get together from all over, returning home sometimes being the only time of the year you see most of your family. Just Subscribed to 11 days as well.
so in Oakville Ontario (which is right next to Burlington) at Bronte Harbor, we have this massive fireworks show where you can't even move because the harbor is filled up with like the entire town, and there are a few barges out on the lake that just send of fireworks like machine guns for hours.
On Canada Day we normally got to Fort Rodd Hill (Parks Canada). We have a piece of the "largest birthday" cake, 21 gun salute, picnic at the park / BBQ later that that night with extended family.
Critical Eats Japan sent me. The quiz is neat. 73$ dollars is a little low for everyone I know. Maybe 70 on fireworks if you were being a bit cheap and then the food/drinks depends on the amount of people tbh. My family spends more like 600 because its what we celebrate the hardest besides Christmas. But then again, some people don't buy at all. Hmmm
We do have a love for a holiday that equals Americans love of July 4th. For us it's May 24 weekend. Being a much colder country that our typical first weekend of the year we all go to our cottages and trailers to do all the "usual July 4th" activities like beer, barbeque and family
I wish Jason great success in his new endeavour, as well as his continued health and friendship with you. I actually own a Tim Horton's hat, with a big maple leaf on the front, and their name on the back. I also have Greenlight's Windsor Police 2017, Dodge Charger, with the 150th anniversary marking, which Greenlight is an American toy company, I even have their Canada Post LLC. Take care, and all the best.
I'd say you are generally correct about Canada Day Joseph. Out West Canada Day is more about the extended weekend than the day of celebrations. Best time of year to camp and/or visit with family/friends. Although we all made sure to stay in Calgary for the 150 celebration a couple years back with a famous local artist playing downtown and the fireworks in the background. Was an absolutely amazing time, I wish it was something we could expect for every Canada Day.
Quebec : St-Jean-Baptiste is usually very big and hard partying (Like 4th of July in USA). Canada day, you could expect is not as big in Quebec. Although those who do celebrate it, they can throw a pretty big party as well.
My family never really celebrates it when we lived in or visited Smiths Falls we would occasionally go to Ottawa but we just watch the singers on TV and fireworks.
I live in Ontario, about an hour east of Toronto. We go camping or have a bbq every Canada day! There’s a big water front festival in our town and fireworks. 🇨🇦❤️
A few times when I was younger we went to Ottawa for Canada Day. I remember two quotes from it one is from Jean Cretan who was the prime minister at the time said in his speech "today we wave the flag and party tomorrow we go back to being Canadian" another was something that an American said to a waitress at a restaurant "I didn't know you guys could patty like that"
We had fun diving in to this and learning the things that make us all different. How do you celebrate?
It’s also important to remember that the 4th of July is not seen as a joyous holiday for all, especially for the black community. Please consider supporting some of the black organizations I’ve linked in the description. I hope we can all continue to educate ourselves, and be an ally.

Why do Americans keep the door wide open for us.....lol .
That's one of the dumbest questions anyone has ever asked anyone else
Ken Lompart Unfortunately we don’t study a lot of other countries history. I think she needed to have it explained to her. That’s how we all learn!😊

Thanks for sending that was so awesome. I’m waiting to try the rest until we can get together!
Windsor and Detroit have a massive fireworks display a few days prior to Canada day. 3 barges set up in the middle of the Detroit River. 👍

Don't forget that in between Canada day and Independence day, Buffalo and Fort Erie would have a friendship festival.
Thanks Paul from Critical Eats! You made a fun episode even funner! (yes that's a real word lol) And that 11 Day Power Play is an awesome idea!

If you come to the West Coast, it's a different story.
You are not proud enough. In Quebec, at 24th june, everybody is in the street. It's almost an obligation.
Almost 25 % do not celebrate it . In Quebec , ' Canada day' is moving day, as most leases start on the first of July .

In Ottawa, Canada day is a big thing. Everyone is excited to go downtown. Theres celebrations and shows etc ...
My family usually gets out of Ottawa for Canada Day because it's too crowded. We go watch fireworks in the Ottawa valley

Guys that was so much fun to watch! Very cool that you had your grade 10 (not sophomore 😉) teacher run the quiz! We subscribed to the 11 Day Power Play channel too....good luck with the new venture Jason!
Thanks to both of you for putting me onto the 11 day challenge. What very good work they're doing.

We have a parade, fair grounds, family BBQ and fireworks every July 1. Westville, NS, Canada. Families get together from all over, returning home sometimes being the only time of the year you see most of your family. Just Subscribed to 11 days as well.
“Critical Eats Japan” sent me over, enjoyed your video and learned somethings too.
so in Oakville Ontario (which is right next to Burlington) at Bronte Harbor, we have this massive fireworks show where you can't even move because the harbor is filled up with like the entire town, and there are a few barges out on the lake that just send of fireworks like machine guns for hours.
We have a Hockey Game in Edmonton, Alberta that has been going on for over 10 years, and every year they skate to break the last years record.
We always looked forward to and went all out for Victorie Day, May 2-4. Family BBQ with all the cousins, fireworks, bonfire, good-bye winter!
Critical Eats Japan sent me good video keep them coming 🤟
CRITICAL EATS JAPAN told me this is a great channel!! Cheers!!
On Canada Day we normally got to Fort Rodd Hill (Parks Canada). We have a piece of the "largest birthday" cake, 21 gun salute, picnic at the park / BBQ later that that night with extended family.
Mr Zimmer doesn't look that much older than the guys
That was a great way to enjoy both independence days!! I signed up to Jason's other TH-cam channel!
Found your channel due to Critical Eats Japan. I am liking your concept and hope that you will be able to meet each other soon again :)
Hmmm
11 Day Powerplay -- SUBBED! I bumped it up to 997!! Let's GOOOOO!!
amazing!! So close!
Our independance consisted of a couple of guys meeting in a bar to hammer out an agreement. UK were tired of paying our bills.
11DPP subscription done.
AND I shared this video (because you've explained it more concisely than I could) on my facebook.
Thanks Tim!!

We do have a love for a holiday that equals Americans love of July 4th. For us it's May 24 weekend. Being a much colder country that our typical first weekend of the year we all go to our cottages and trailers to do all the "usual July 4th" activities like beer, barbeque and family
Hi Guys. Critical eats Japan sent me over to say G’Day from Australia
Critical Eats Japan says hello...the McDonald's bag is for making seasoned fries. Enjoy. Stay safe and have a blessed day.
I learned some facts....thanks! And thanks to "Critical Eats Japan" for send me here. It was fun.
I celebrate Canada Day every year with friends. And when we were in physically works in the the office, I would organize a celebration.
Thanks again for a great vid. However as a retired teacher i think Joseph may have to take summer school with Mr Zimmer. 😁 🇨🇦
hahaha yep
As a Canadian living in the States and married to an American, I really enjoy your videos!
Thanks so much! You can relate then!
Cool vid guys, I'm new to you channel, can't wait to see more, critical eats Japan told me about your page.
I live in Ontario, about an hour east of Toronto. We go camping or have a bbq every Canada day! There’s a big water front festival in our town and fireworks. 🇨🇦❤️
Cobourg?
As a Canadian I have to subscribe and happy to
A few times when I was younger we went to Ottawa for Canada Day. I remember two quotes from it one is from Jean Cretan who was the prime minister at the time said in his speech "today we wave the flag and party tomorrow we go back to being Canadian" another was something that an American said to a waitress at a restaurant "I didn't know you guys could patty like that"
Subscribed...hope it hits 1000 quickly.
Enjoyed your banter :) hope you get together soon. Critical Eats Japan sent me.
Thank you for sharing!
The box from #criticaleatsJapan looks awesome and not too freaky (some Asian snacks are strange). I'm enjoying their videos a lot!
