I actually get a better batt with hand carders. I recently tried one done on the drum and it was no way as smooth as I can do it by hand. Let me know how it goes if you have a try!
+luca costigliolo I certainly will. I've just ordered a set of medieval spindles from Caroline Hershey on etsy (her videos are here too). I'm wondering if the same technique will work with cotton. I've seen antique cotton distaffs from the Baltic region. I'm planning on making a replica. Cotton grows easily here, and I have tons of it.
that is a very good idea your doing Luca my grand parents where from Northern Italy my grandfather from Asti and my grandmother was from Montemango I spelled that one wrong I am sure :)
Oh my goodness what a handsome spinning pirate! 😍
Make It Kate thank you!
thanks for sharing you're technique. With the wide variety of fiber preparations out there, it's great to have more shared knowledge.
Oh, I found you on Victorian Farm working with Ruth Goodman. Instant fan and had to know more 😘
Thank you so much! I don't have a drum carder either. This is very useful information.
