As I worked in Ibiza and traveled back and forth a lot:
    I always bring:
    1. One casual heel for dinner at some restaurants.
    2. One pair of cute comfi sandals/slippers that I make sure that I already wear in the airplane. No sneakers!
    3. One pair of plastic slippers for the beach.
    4. Only two pairs of bathingsuits in case one is still wet from the day before.
    5. Very little makeup because you won't use it once there because of all the heat/sweat. (I bring mascara, concealer, blush, browstuff, moisturizer, SPF.
    6. Shorts and or skirts that can match all the tops you're bringing.
    7. Comfi dress for the beach.
    8. Cute, airy dress/outfit for dinner/evening events/walking around town.
    Hope this helps.

I find ribbed tank tops that are 100 per cent cotton without elastane are very cool in the heat as they don't cling and they get a bit looser when worn.

instead of a cardigan or a blazer, I always bring a lightweight larger scarf (preferably silk) so I can use it during the day to protect my arms from the sun or cover myself when entering the church etc, but also at night as a cover up when going out for dinner. In my opinion it looks a little more feminine, and also takes up no room in your luggage.
Also, absolutely nothing polyester! I would still wear a pair of denim shorts - just a looser fit and a thinner fabric.

You are speaking my language now! I live in Florida and this is all perfect advice for every day living for me. It's always so hot and humid here, 9 plus months out of the year! Cool! I just bought my teen a pair of espadrilles made in Spain sold by jcrew, and I’ve been told they are very comfortable, do people really just wear them and walk around doing errands? I can’t even wear a little heel but espadrilles are really chic

Great tips Lydia! I brought 10 linen blend tank tops in white, olive, taupe and black on my last vacation. I brought other tops as well, but these roll up so small and are so cool and comfortable. I didn't want to do laundry so having enough tops was perfect! My mistake was buying a silver crossbody that I thought would go with everything. In my pictures, all I see is that crossbody! I should have brought my black crossboody, but when packing , I thought it would be too dark. In hindsight, it would have just blended in much better.

Great advice Lydia. Yes - pack comfortable flat shoes and avoid heels . When traveling, I like wearing pants that aren’t too long or voluminous that they drag on bathroom floors (especially on the plane - yuck) and I had my fine knit H&M cashmere sweater that takes up very little space in versatile light beige which I found so much more useful than a blazer. When my husband is not with me to carry my items in his backpack, I do have a little backpack that I use for carrying water and my sweater in addition to a smaller Crossbody purse that lays flat on my hip and isn’t uncomfortably bulky.

Great tips, I see so many people wearing expensive clothes that don't suit them at all. I'm gifting friends and family colour analysis with an professional Image consultant, it makes such a difference. I wish I could wear white but I'm already ghostly white. Also for anyone going to the North Africa, Middle East or Asia, you can get dresses/caftans/shirts and skirts tailored locally. Also places like Italy and Greece you can get custom made shoes/sandals, great if you've got bunions.

Great video! I am just back from holiday and agreed with everything. Thankfully removed my wedges from my bag at the last minute and didn't need them so that was the right thing to do, as you said. I took 3 tank tops thinking I was being a super clever minimalist but couldn't wear any of them in the heat as they were too tight and felt scratchy on sunburned skin. Thanks for the tips, really helpful.

Lydia, you just described what my summer luggage looks like for more than 20 years. I have perfected the way to pack linen so that it doesn't crease, but would definitely add to your advice to choose fabrics that don't crease. Also, I always pack one pair of denim shorts. They are the perfect thing to wear on ships and boats because they can withstand humidity, exactly because the fabric is thick. Everything else just sticks on your body in extremely hot climates like the Mediterranean.

If one is doing ‘sporty’ activities, I have purchased a “skort” , in a fabric that can be easily rolled and take no space in a suitcase. It is the same type of breathable nylon that I have for pants that I wear on a rainy day while travelling /touring or for even gardening. This collection is from the apparel store like Eddie Bauer in 🇨🇦 or 🇺🇸…a great alternative when I don’t want to dirty my linen shorts- wrinkle free and withstands rainy weather and for wearing in transit like car, train etc. It washes and dries quickly which is a huge plus when travelling.

This was a smart video. I agree with the no jumpsuit purely off of how impractical it is to use the bathroom in a full jumpsuit. But I disagree with the denim shorts. I support denim in hot weather because it holds up better if you sweat, while cotton shorts can leave sweat marks. It's also harder for denim to feel wet but when cotton is wet it stays wet longer and is uncomfortable.

Good advice, however, I would not go on holiday without at least a low-mid heel sandal or/slingback shoe. What I do is wear flats walking to restaurants and put my heel on just before I reach my destination, I just wouldn't feel right in a flat eating out in the evening being 5ft 2in, its the heel that brings the bit of elegance for me😂. I usually agree with your suggestions, but this time I have to disagree on the denim shorts and fitted tank tops. When I am on holidays I live in my denim shorts, they are super confortable, don't get wrinkled, don't show as much when dirty, they look good with everything, are good for the beach and for the city. They are definitely my must have. I also use fitted tank tops a lot, they are easy to wash, they go with all sorts of bottoms and are generally super confy while still stylish. To me linen is more to wear at home, because it gets super wrinkled very fast and I don't want to be ironing during my holidays:)!

Very good tips. What would you recommend on a first time England trip during the first part of October? I want to use a carry-on. You made it! 900,000 subscribers. Good for you.

I lived in England for 41 years. Take light layers and ensure you can be waterproof! Rain hat, coat, sturdy shoes. Jeans are good except when they get wet. Cashmere under the raincoat will be useful, as will a scarf. Long and short sleeve t-shirts in cotton. A cardigan if you wear them.

Hi Lydia, going for a 4 day trip to London with my daughter mid august, and was thinking.. what would Lydia pack… any good ideas for city packing for 3-4 days… 😊❤

Great advise. I need to know what to pack for Edinburgh last week in August and London first week in September. Bring my trench coat and umbrella or buy a rain coat with a hood but then I won’t have a longer coat for evenings… what to do layers ?

    • @mariecurie7491
      @mariecurie7491 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Bingo! I will be there, too. One smart jacket or blazer, but ensure your raincoat fits over it... Rain hat, sturdy shoes. Breathable layers - cotton, silk, lightweight cashmere. Jeans. Shorts possibly for the South - also better than long trousers in the rain.
