This really helped me out I'm writing a concert band piece and these are very helpfull, ps I play bari and tenor for my high school marching, jazz and concert band
You clearly put a lot of work into all your videos, especially the in-depth clarinet writing videos. In addition to the fact that you're an excellent musician and it shows. It's a shame you haven't gotten more recognition as of yet. I'm waiting for your channel to take off!
I'm happy because I play Bari Sax but, people really only play alto sax, and it gets annoying to try to play some things with the Bari, alittle nicer to know there is one person on this website that does Bari 😅
Ah the bari sax... I only ever got to play a little bit way back in HS, but it was awesome! This makes me want to own one. Actually, I'd like to have an alto again, too.
Hey, I recognize that tag at the end. It's from the Bojack theme! I love that theme song. Anyway, back when I played bari in high school big band, our band director would tell me to take stuff down the octave a lot. It made sense. Gives a fatter sound instead of getting lost in the range where the tenors are playing. And after a while and into college, I would just drop certain phrases down an octave on my own because they sounded better. Got no complaints.
Thank you!! Someone in my house was playing this video and I recognized that snippet from across the house and had them send it to me so I could figure out why it was so familiar!
I have a low A baritone saxophone in my high school marching/concert band that I play also have a low bflat baritone to in the same school I play both one for marching and one for concert band and jazz band
I would totally appreciate a video on bassoon, as I am a very avid bassoon player int high school band, and have recently expressed interest in composing, and any help you be much appreciated!
I'd like get around to oboe (then english horn, recorders, world flutes, duduk, etc.) when I have some time! My How to Write videos never really took off like I had hoped, so I've gotten a little discouraged. I've also been pretty busy though. But long story short oboe (and most double reeds) are loud and rich at the bottom and very soft and thin at the top. That and you might find writing crazy fast licks for oboe (especially ones in keys far from C) can be very hard to execute. Unlike all the other woodwinds oboe's mechanism hasn't really been modernized, which makes technical passages even more difficult.
I understand, and I like them all. They are all really good source of information to keep in mind when writing. I learned lots of new things from you even from your comment. Thank you for your videos and advice.
Ethan Hyvari Thanks! I'm glad they help at least some people :) Unfortunately the only real way I can measure my impact is with those numbers up there^^ But when I have my next lull I'll get back to it! Also thinking of doing a couple more Woodwinds Only videos and then maybe starting a new project for this channel... stay tuned!
i’m a year late but i switched from oboe to bari, i’m sure you’ll be ok. also go for it if you haven’t already, playing bari makes you feel like a badass
That's actually a tricky question! The lowest note depends on the specific instrument. Speaking in concert pitch, bass clarinets go from low Db-Bb; bari saxes go from low Db-C. So the lowest bass clarinet is lower than the lowest bari sax, but many bari saxophones can play lower than some bass clarinets.
step 1 - take alto music
step 2 - read alto music with bari
step 3 - leave a pretentious comment on a video
step 4 - regret
OMG moanin is the best I love how you opened with it
Moanin' is the only song you need to know as a Bari
Jonah Wagner m accu's de en
Why do you think bari sax was made?

Ooooh... that's a good idea.... I already started working on a Christmas cover, but I like that song... Thanks for the suggestion!

bari tenor and alto
Ah the bari sax... I only ever got to play a little bit way back in HS, but it was awesome! This makes me want to own one. Actually, I'd like to have an alto again, too.
Also thanks for demonstrating how the bari sounds different depending on the octave
I’m a bari player myself. It’s definitely the best saxophone. Actually the best instrument in general
Ok now I want a woodwind only arrangement of moanin pleeaasee

what was the piece you played at the beginning of the video it was amazing and also can I have the sheet music for it
Blue Azurite That was Moanin'. It's a classic; shouldn't be too hard to find with a quick google search or in a fakebook!
Bari, top of the sound pyramid !
Thank You Quick and to the point! No questions
That high D (1:29) sounded so much like a clarinet.
bassoon and oboe takes the least amount of air even for the low notes
Deatherman102 yes this is true
I have a low A baritone saxophone in my high school marching/concert band that I play also have a low bflat baritone to in the same school I play both one for marching and one for concert band and jazz band
You, my good sir, have earned a subscriber 🙂
Do you think you'll ever do one of these for bassoon and/or contrabassoon?
Only one dislike? That's awesome

Josh Plotner, will you ever do a how to write for oboe?

Is it a good idea to switch from alto straight to bark. I have also played tenor but I play auto mainly
i’m a year late but i switched from oboe to bari, i’m sure you’ll be ok. also go for it if you haven’t already, playing bari makes you feel like a badass
What's your mouthpiece setup for your bari
In this video I'm using a Vandoren V16 with 3.5 Red Java reeds. Although now I'm using a 7* Otto Link.
I used to use a v16 also, but I just got a Durga and it’s much better for the kind of playing I do
Can you make a video on altissimo fingerings?
Bari sax is great instrument
you should do one for oboe :)
Yo I’m a bari player
Thank you I play bari
Quincy Jones' song, "The Streetbeater" (Sanford and Son) sent me here.
“Bari players don’t play a lot of altissimo”
Leo P has entered the chat
Basically for baris, treble and bass note positions are the exact same
oh and do you have a low A or Bb baritone saxophone
Deatherman102 Low A!
Josh Plotner cool, and no fair my bassoon can't go that high, but my piccolo on the other hand...
Bassoon can play higher but the fingerings are really weird. I can get up to an A above the staff with my bassoon
Egriff123 I play bassoon I started on oboe
@@deatherman1027 you can go to the tuba Low F
Is Bari sax lower than bass clarinet?

Josh Plotner Oh. I always thought Bari was lower. Thank you!
Wish my middle school teacher saw this
Don’t you just love it when you play the French horn and you’re the chameleon of the band?
Only one dislike? Wow! I bet somebody is gonna mess it up now and dislike it. I should have never posted this comment :1
**Plays Moanin'**
It still takes me more than 2 minutes to write something (enjoyable) for baryton saxophone so watching your video didn't really help. ;)
