I think the critique of "No one asked for this." has more to do with unnecessary prequels/sequels/spinoffs of established IPs, rather than good original ideas or even good prequels/sequel/spinoffs. No one was asking for a Lion King prequel because it doesn't add anything to a excellent standalone story. Mufasa is trying to capitalize off of the success of the first film by cramming in as many member berries as possible, rather than attempting to tell a good story first.

I thought Mufasa's 'Circle of Life' explanation from the original was perfectly reasonable: they are all happy to be eaten by the lions bc they know the nutrients will eventually get back to the soil and grass, at which point they get to eat them. And that would translate into more nutrients for them, obviously, even though it was their nutrients to begin with and they are dead... frankly the lions are doing them a favour; if they were self-interested they would be feeding themselves to themselves.

My personal headcannon was that the Lion King was actually the semi mythological founding story of the civilisation from Zootopia and the really important part was Simba switching to insect based diet to peacefully live amongst herbivores.

Saw the movie on Monday, this review was spot on. I’d add tho the revisiting of zimmers music motifs in certain moments 👌🏽 I’m such a sucker for that shit. There were a couple of these callbacks throughout the movie that were fun. Also the lion face cam shots in the action sequences were unintentionally hilarious.

I looked up how much that Lion King remake made at the box office, and just about puked. It's so wild that these live action remakes are all mid at best but they make a billion dollars.
Didn't we already have Scar background lore from some spinoff book or animated series or something? And if so, can anyone vouch for how close (if at all) "Mufasa" comes to that?
Wait, did they make Kimba the White Lion, the cartoon they [more than likely] stole the premise of the original movie from, the villains of the prequel?

Except for "Mulan", I can proudly say, I have not supported any other of Disney's serial live action remake/cash grabs. Just wasn't interested in them because the original animateds were and are sufficient and I wasn't a cash cow to be repeatedly milked when they decided to loose their soulless re-imaginings of those chestnuts.
