After hearing the hidden lead-riffs of anthems to the welkin at dusk, i knew then that ihsahn is not an ordinary musician making "some" music, but instead he knows very well what he's doing, black, progressive or classical, all well done.
Ihsahn has evolved and developed from every album he's ever made...This is another great example, back to more straight forward prog-metal, many, many horns up!
What I really like about Ihsahn is that he is one of those metal artists who changes things up a lot, but I like all his albums. He was even featured in different songs from different metal artists and he was even in a band called Peccatum which was Avant-Garde Metal.
What a masterpiece. Ihsahn is at least two steps above most of musicians. Insanely good and always looking forward and never losing his credibility. Hail Ihsahn!

Always excited to see what Ihsahn comes up with. And this album is amazing! I especially love "Twin Black Angels". His clean vocals are so relaxing to listen to.

Man, 2018 isn´t halfway through and there are so much really great Albums released already. Ihsahn, Rivers of Nihil, Wallfahrer, Antlers, Sojourner. Still excited what will follow for the rest of the Year to come.
This is romantic black metal... christ I dont want to hate this, Ihsahn had to be really brave to release this. BUT personally I don't think I can relate to this record at this point in my life. So uhh I'm going to go back to listening to Emperor and come back to this when I am in my late 30s (in about 10 years). I think by then I will more thoroughly enjoy this record. It's not bad record, I just want something really heavy right now and this is not it. I am glad he didn't keep repeating himself and had the guts to break out of his niche and do something more open. It's like when Devin went solo after SYL he really changed but for the better. Anyway see you guys in 10 years(ish).

Finally got around to checking this Ihsahn album, and I gotta say, very much enjoying it. As an old fan of The Kovenant (yes, even after they moved from Black Metal to Industrial Weird Shit, I still dug it), I can't help but feel this is where they may have taken their sound if they had continued. Especially on tracks like One Less Enemy, Where You Are Lost And I Belong and In Rites Of Passage. Whether they were capable of writing songs with this much class, I don't know, but still. Anyone else feel me?
Arcana Imperii ´s solo reminds me of what Pestilence were doing in " spheres " ... that album which ended their career in the 90s would have been an instant classic these days .

When I first heard Arcana Imperii as a single, I wasn't huge on it. Then I listened to some of the tracks with half-assed attention and figured it wasn't that great. Holy shit was I wrong, this is my 5th time listening to the full album in 2 days. Even the tracks I was lukewarm on give me great listening pleasure in context of the full album. Definitely outdoes Arktis for me, I was a fool to write this off. In Rites of Passage is my highlight, very slick riff and I dig that frantic synth playing.
