  • special release of 7 short films to celebrate Persian New Year / Nowruz
extract taken from a longer film on the Friday ritual of Najjar, in the mountains of the Kermanshah province of Iran. A Sufi gathering after the Friday prayer, involving more than a hundred men (women are having their own celebration in another room), with a zikr (the 'remembrance', main part of Sufi gatherings) following a common meal, and lasting around one hour. The Sufi rituals in the provinces of Kermanshah and Kurdistan are still widely celebrated, while in other parts of Iran they are much more hidden and not open to outsiders those days.
entire film to be released later in 2020

    RECORDED IN NAJJAR, IRAN
short version, extract of a longer film, to be released later in 2020
part of a collection of 10 films made in Iran in October 2019

So beautiful! Excellent filming! if you enjoyed this, you should watch Bab'Aziz - The Prince That Contemplated His Soul, another superb piece of art on sufism.

    Great video, this is amazing.
Why is the title "MUSIQUES ET RITES DE PERSE", this is KURDISH people, not iranians. It is disrespectful to them. These are proud kurdish people living in KURDISTAN not iran.

thx for your comment ;) but it doesn't say IRAN it says PERSIA which is quite a different story as well - and this is part of a collection of films shot in the limits of Iran today, the others being from Ispahan, Shiraz, Yazd... so it's not disrespectful i believe, sorry, just trying our best to accomodate everybody ya' know ;)

@@vincentmoonSaying it's Persia isn't helping. In what way do you mean that saying Persia makes it better? There's a difference between accomodating the people pictured in the video you are shooting and accomodating "everybody". What gives you the right to label kurdish people as "persians". I live in Sweden now but am born in Mahabad and I am often there visting, I have never heard or seen a kurd call himself or his territory, culture or custom "persian". It IS disrespectful, I'm sorry to let you know that you don't get to decide what is and what is not disrespectful

I don't think you have bad intentions. I am just letting you know how this is percieved by the kurdish people, the people you are depicting and i.e. making your living out of. Do with that information how you will.

@@xxzzkkzz i hear you well, but do not worry, i am just doing my best to portray the complexity of our reality. all this just for passion of our humankind. and there is no such thing as objectivity in regards to identities as you know well. mixed we are, mixing we will. and am happy to see Kurdish Sufi culture being able to express itself so openly in modern day Iran. which is not the case of their sufi brothers in other parts of the country. lets celebrate that wisdom.

Persian and Kurds are both Iranians. Go learn some history my friend Iranian is an big ethnogroups which gather Farsi, Lor, Kord, Gilak, Bakhtiari, Taleshi, Azari (yes i wrote Azari...), Balouch, Tadjik, Pashto etc ...
