Love your results! I use to shingle but I switched to raking and smoothing because it’s time consuming. Shingling made your hair more elongated. I was like okay! I see the inches!

I know this is 2 years later but I'm watching this video now as a guy growing my hair out. It's so helpful to see someone who wasn't a pro at doing it, everyone else just blasted through it and they're like "oh yeah maybe 20 30 minutes it depends on your hair density" and I'm like there's no way. I do want to figure out how to get the time down on this but my biggest problem right now is forming sections, it seems I need 50 individual patches to keep from ruining large clumps. Thanks for the video and I'd love to hear anymore tips you may have found on this, I'm finally gonna put the time in tomorrow morning

For me I prefer the shingling method, even it’s time consuming. I find that this method defines my curls better than the raking method. I have tried both methods and shingling works for me. Also, the ecoslay gel is my favorite by far.

When I shingle, I just grab the strand at the root and smooth all the way down to the ends, straight down. I don't bother to twirl. The hair curls up on its own. Much faster.

Shingling does define my curls much better than just the praying hands method and leaves my hair more bouncy ...it actually also lasts longer...and yes It's a longer process but I figure if I want my hair to look good then I need to put in the work...lol

@@CaramelCoils it's been that way my whole life. At first I thought relaxers were thinning one side of my head. But when I went natural last year (I big chopped to 3 inches of hair) my hair still grew back with one side being more dense. So, just the way I was born 😁.
I tried this weekend. Didn't get pass one half of one section 🤣🤣🤣. It's too much work when you have dense hair. You really need to do small sections. I'll stick with raking and pray hands. The sections doesn't have to be as small.

My hair type my hair naturally clumps and coils and is defined so I don't have to do the shingling method. You have a similar hair type so thats why its best to do wash and gos with out for optimal definition. The shingling method woks better for those who have less defined frizzy hair.

I just tried shingling for the first time yesterday and I’m in looovvee. I use uncle funkys daughter curly magic and wetline xtreme gel. I’m obsessed. I may be able to just do my wash n go only once a week which would be such a time saver for me. I’m embracing my shrinkage, but I did notice I had way more with this method. And the drying time was exponentially faster for me. We have very similar curl patterns (I have medium/low density tho) so I really enjoyed watching your perspective in this video!

I feel like this was ould last me like two hours. Then I'd have straight knots and have to wash my hair the next day.

Surprisingly enough I actually didn’t have any issues with knots

Shingling, for me, is a NO!! Lol
It takes entirely too long & I don't like the shrinkage.. plus my hair is more tangled on wash day... & it only looks like there's more definition bc the curls are separated...
The only plus was that it dried faster bc the curls are way more separated..

I definitely feel you sis lmao the shrinkage def caught me by surprise. I love volume! But I also can agree that my hair dried waay faster too!
