This last two weeks I've been listening to/watching nothing but SNESDRUNK and Letterman on my phone while I play SNES and Sega games on the tv. I cannot believe I ran into this. Man, I sorely regret all those awful comments I made now. Really puts everything in perspective. They were pretty funny though.
Considering that the letters that made it on air could be a small percentage of letters written, Mr. Nelson may have found it efficient to hire a confidential secretary to take dictation.
I love the old time lighting - it's like wrestling, it was dark until about late 86 i think, then it was all bright and arena were lit but daves early lighting reminds me of how saturday nights main event was lit in 85...it's cool to see the grandeur increase on the way to cbs lol
I am a younger one, can someone explain the references in the 2 disguise bits? Who's in the picture in the first one and is the line about no pants and Regis a reference to something in the second one?
The photo was Dan Rather. There's no connection between no pants and Regis, just that Dave had Regis on the show a lot as a last-minute fill-in and make jokes about him all the time.
Congrats, Dave. I once sent in a letter I was sure they’d use - it easily lent itself to one of their goofy responses - but I never saw it on the air. I said Barbara Gaines is a total babe, can you send me an 8x10 glossy of her.
I asked Joe Furey, who co-Executive Produced "NewsRadio" with Paul Simms. He replied, "I believe Dave was named after Dave Foley and Nelson was from Paul Simms' mother's family. I think."

Love this...I've been looking for two things in particular when it comes to LATE NIGHT - The Second Mr. Humidity with "Angel" holding the Pork Rinds. And also the viewer mail segment when Al Frisch cuts himself shaving. Do you have those clips?
@@cablecoshow It looks like the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearing (that featured testimony from Anita Hill). I’m not sure what sentiment motivated the joke. th-cam.com/video/G3n-Sa0B2s8/w-d-xo.htmlm35s
Ah, now I see what he means, thanks. Dave Nelson was and still is a separate, living human being. I've been in touch with him since 2000, up to and including today.
This video defines the word niche. So delighted that you put this together. God bless you.
Man-oh-man-oh-man! It took me a decade to get ONE letter on the show, I cant imagine how awesome this must have been for the guy!
Man just to get one on there would be so awesome though
What did your letter say?
No compilation is complete without a Larry Bud Melman appearance. Great stuff!
Nice to see Danny Gatton, Master of the Telecaster. Incredibly sad what happened to him.
I was kinda sad to see Dave Nelson switch from handwriting to a typewriter

5:10 I had a prostate exam done by that same model of robotic arm
For Dave Nelson! :D
What time is it? "It's time for Dalmatians!"
Wow, I had my letter read in 1982 (about Hiram Bullock's guitar), and thought they'd never read a second letter from me so I didn't bother.
The thumbnail looks like all the modern youtubers haha

What no Dave Nelson back story... Someone is getting too famous lol
exactly how did he get so many on the air? who is he? did he become a show writer?
Volume! Volume! Volume!
@@davenelson4782 Same deal as always...

Dave Nelson caps please !
How did he get so many letters on air
The cash I included with each letter probably helped.
"Brian, roll the videotape..." at 9:44. Was Brian McAloon filling in for Hal that night?
Sounds like it.
And lo, in 1995, NewsRadio would have a Dave Nelson... coincidence, or a case of a great hat-tip from the genius mind of Paul Simms?!
I asked Joe Furey, who co-Executive Produced "NewsRadio" with Paul Simms. He replied, "I believe Dave was named after Dave Foley and Nelson was from Paul Simms' mother's family. I think."
@@dongiller Good going on the quick clarifying, still a neat name nonetheless!
It's too bad, as the hat-tip would have been nice, since both Joe Furey and Paul Simms worked on Late Night.

Haven't uploaded the former yet.
HOWD HE GET so DAM LUCKY ??
I don't get the joke at 9:45.
Congressional hearing. Patrick Leahy, Paul Simon, not sure who else, or what this was about at the time.

this too bro.
No, they weren't real viewers' letters were they? Always thought they were fake.
All real. I constantly get requests from those who had their letters read but never got a video of it.
Sure you got 'em all, Don?
Yes. Dave sent me the list of all his read mail nineteen years ago.
Imagine watching this into the future .. like in 2021
This guy ever come forward?
Are these even real fan letters?
Yes.
@@dongiller thanx
danny gatton!!!!
Thought it was Letterman
Not clear what you're saying. Of course it's Letterman.
Don Giller, I think he meant that he thought ‘Dave Nelson’ was a contrivance of the show.

@@dongiller Did he stop submitting in the '90s or did they stop using them?
timharrod I just asked him and will post an update when he responds.
