A sterling silver drink coaster, well bless their hearts, what a lovely gift. I love what he did with it.

I have dreamed of him already. It was really bizarre, my head was the tip of Don's penis, the dream was first person point of view and I was staring up at Don's thumbnail image attached to a giant naked torso. Don had this really angry expression on his face and he attacked me, strangling me violently, as I approached death I realized Don was just trying to bust a nut and that while to him was merely the pointless pursuit of penile pleasures, from the perspective of the penis was homicidal horror.

The flashback had a kind of Film Noir "Detour" situation that turned into a "planetary romance," wonder if these guys were reading Daniel Clowes, heh. Then again that kinda thing was in the air at the time. Bonnie Raitt joining the band for Captain Beefheart and the magic band's "Sure 'nuff 'N yes I do" from "Safe as Milk" probably went over more than a few heads then and now. My dad loved watching this show with me for that reason, spotting unusual numbers coming from the band. We were both insomniacs. Well, the Internet has figured out who H.P. Lovecraft and The Stooges were among other things, so we've moved an inch or so in 30 years. But I suppose it's ultimately better the good things remain largely hidden and misunderstood.

I love what Dave called 'found humor'. Carson had it to a degree, but Letterman (sans writers?) really ran with it and made it an art-form! The classic example was the Writers' Strike of early 1988 :)
Dave: "Hi, I guess your sick of watching all those lame re-runs. We're MORE than sick of them - We're OUT OF THEM!"

dpf2122 He was in plenty of skits in the NBC days. Paul, Sid and Will, also. When they switched to CBS, sadly, this was no longer done.

0:37. National Broadcasting Corporation. I cannot believe Dave gets this wrong. For a guy with so much rank to not even know the name of the network. Just shows his complete disregard and irreverence.

Or it actually is the National Broadcasting Company (Paul may be thinking of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation).
