I won’t lie, it sounds wonderful and it truely sounds unique but I don’t think the eerie nature was caught in your song. His gymnopedies and gnoissies are meant to be scary and hair raising yet yours sound like discovery and passion. I just think comparing this hommage to the aforementioned songs is a bad idea but overall, your music has a lovely touch, I can’t wait to hear more!
Thank you, A Sailor - you put it very kindly! I agree with you, actually :) Erik Satie and I have very different personalities from what I've read of him, so it is perhaps no surprise that, even when using an ostensibly similar idiom (the harmonies, texture, and even parts of the melody in this piece are objectively similar to his), our music conveys equally different atmospheres. That said, I was thinking of his music when I wrote this, so it is still a homage to him (if not a pastiche of him).
yeah, sorry, i should have specified better. the gymnopedies are the perfect example of calming and melancholy-ish but to me (this is very subjective of me to say although it seems like a lot of other people agree with me judging by my likes), the gnoissies are scary because of the unfamiliar scale they use and the odd timing, he doesn't even use a time signature too. i guess i was referring to gnoissienne no. 3, no. 4 and no. 6 which to me, are as I described.
I really liked this! When I saw the description that it was inspired by Erik Satie, then I realized that's what drew me to it, and I could hear the similarity. Very nice.
I don't know why, but this reminds me of the movie, "The Shape of Water", by Guillermo del Toro... It's soothing... Melancholic... Hopeful... Such a brilliant piece... ❤
Satie is my favorite composer and I can hear the inspiration you took from him. Yet, you managed to create a completely different effect. While Satie hypnotizes and draws me into an inner world, your piece here brings the world into a sharper focus. Honestly before your compositions, I've never heard music that so successfully paints such vivid imagery in my mind before.
personally I liked your take on his style of composition! I think both of you had different takes on the transience of beauty. I won't write you an essay, but I can clearly see the inspiration - yet I (for one) am happy that you didn't exactly try to mimic him. I think trying to exact another's style with no added flavor of your own would be disingenuous...! You did lovely. I hope I see more from you in the future, and I am so glad I checked out your video instead of just scrolling by! It's absolutely wonderful.
That is really kind of you to say, romeo kun! For what it's worth, you've hit the nail on the head; it's not a strict pastiche, but my humble homage to Satie :) I was playing a lot of his music at the time, and the melody emerged whilst I was improvising.
beautiful - satie would be proud. i aspire to be a composer like you one day, though i have quite a long way to go to even be near to your level of expertise. amazing as usual :)
I went to HAEVN i read your comment i found it professionnal ..i was curious to see the profile ...SURPRISE 🌹 You are Pianist 🎉..i was sure this was my feeling when i saw your comment. ..i subscribed im so happy for this discovery it was a pure intuition ..Mine intuition thank you Sir for your talent 🌹
I am listening to your music and I like it very much. Could make some compilation? I have to change it every 3-4 minutes, but I like it to be longer to hear without disturbances. Is it possible?
Thanks, buddy! Certainly playing the music & listening to it helps a lot. It's really just a matter of figuring out what makes the composer's music what it is, looking at things like texture, harmony, etc.
If you play a D note on 2:53, we have whole part 2:45-2:53 of famous Harry Potter's melody, check it out - from 0:35 on, Leaving Hogwarts theme :p. Just had to share this thought with you, nice coincidence! Anyway, I've just found your channel, it's amazing :) Keep up the good work!
@@LukeFaulkner thank you for the quick reply. Yes it truly has a wonderful tone :) I'm looking to buy an acoustic piano soon, how much do the decent ones go for?
Believe it or not, this one cost £180! (Though tuning cost another £80, and transport was £150). It's a good time to buy second hand acoustic pianos. Just listen to the tone and not the tuning when buying. Also, ask when it was last refurbished - fixing pianos can be quite costly, so it's best if they are either fairly new or have been refurbished in the last 20 years. Good luck with your search! :)
Thank you so much!!! I don't want to bother you, but is it okay to buy a piano that is out of tune? or will it go out of tune quicker after it gets tuned?

Great job. It certainly has Satie's elegance.

Different stories, different music. However, they all have beauty such as yours.

Out of simple ignorant curiosity, is this one of those discussions like Blues Feeling vs. Guitar Shredders technique? But on a different context.
I felt annoyed when I first saw your comments but I decided to check you out and honestly I'm glad I did
haha same man
Glad you both enjoyed it :)
Beautiful as always. Love your work Luke.
Thank you, Guido!
Mon admiration et mon apréciation pour votre grand art et vos grandes manières augmentent chaque jour

Thank you for your kind words :)
I just found out about your music half an hour ago and I'm obsessed, please don't ever stop writing music.
I won't! 😉

I haven't really been checking the updates from your channel lately, but today I just decided to and found this. I'm glad I did.
Très joli, merci ! Revenez à Paris quand vous voulez, vous êtes le bienvenu.
Merci bien! J'adore Paris :)
The greatness of this music is all about your fingers that dance on the piano keyboard.
Love, love, much love

Ooh, I'll have to watch it! Thanks for the suggestion :)

Beautiful. You even have the perfect name for a musician.
Haha, thank you, Jens!
More like heaven on earth 🌌☁️🌏
What a long time we've waited to listen to a new composition, thank you Luke !
You're welcome, Rose! There will be more compositions to come :) (I might also record some Tchaikovsky along the way - I really like his music!)
Meishu-Sama once said that "the Paradise is the world of Beauty". Therefore, congratulations, you're making this world a litte more like Heaven.
Love your work! I'd love to see more of your happy and uplifting melodic songs. Thank you and wish you all the best.
I'm writing a more uplifting song right now, as it happens - should be uploaded in the next month or so if all goes well! Thanks for your support : )

Wow, your very talented at the piano. You remind me of Erik Satie.
Thank you for saying so! This piece was inspired by Satie :)
I love it! Peaceful and sweet melody.

I feel like I was in Paris, you are so amazing!
Thank you, Beny orangutan!
It's a pretty composition. And it reminds me of Satie and Debussy at the same time.

Of course, Ewa! I'm uploading a new composition each week this year, but plan to make some playlists in 2020.

Maybe you will make music for Marvel one day. I could see it happening.😊
I hope so, Angel :) That would be incredible!!
Mate you are so inspiring. How do you learn composers styles? What is your method? Just studying scores?

Haha, I'd not noticed that! Well spotted, my friend :)
Is this piece on spotify? I’ve been unable to find it.
Not yet, Yurie. I will though!
I love you
Haha, I love you too!
What piano is that ? Very good playing! :)
Thank you, Cylnx! It was made by The Imperial Organ & Piano Company back in the 60s. I bought it from eBay, as it happens. It has a wonderful tone.

Лучше играть чем писать
I consider this instead of Satie.
I'm going deaf . I hope there is more time to hear this than I think.............................
