Reasons not to buy a land Rover? My mechanic screamed at me not to buy one, then he changed his mind and wanted me to buy one as he wanted to fund a house purchase in Spain!!
I’ve had little trouble with mine since I bought it,but the customer service isn’t very good when you do have an issue, takes them ages to sort a part or find a solution to the problem.
If you go online and search land rover parts issues, you’ll see loads of info, they setting up some new warehouse which has caused further backlogs/ etc
There's horror stories out there of people getting insurance quotes of over £25,000 for various Land Rover vehicles. That's absolutely terrifying. The modern day Range Rover is fast becoming like the GTi of the late 80s and early 90s. My father once got a quote of £21,000 to insure an Escort Cosworth in the early 90s. The car was worth £18,000 at the time. He ended up trading it in against a Porsche 911 (964) because it was cheaper to insure. Hundreds, rather than tens of thousands.
I know a guy who has a range rover sport and it costs more to insure than his Lamborghini Aventador 😂😂but water off a ducks back for him tbh he still pays it
You guys live in another world, I got quoted £28k for a 2005 BMW 120d. My first year was 2.8k and I was happy with that. Older drivers don't realise how lucky they were with insurance prices back in the 80-90s.
The ‘underlying’ issue with R/R is availability of parts. R/R’s are being stolen, chopped up and shipped to countries where parts for R/R are scarce, let alone affordable. Much cheaper and profitable, for organised crime to steal these cars and ship abroad. I forecast R/R prices continue to fall until new security & tracking installed, as well as faster acting dedicated police. Just my opinion.
Not just the theft problem Calvin, they're unreliable and expensive to repair. A lot of people that can now afford them due to their price wouldn't actually be able to maintain and repair it. But they are awesome when they're working.

I just got shot of my Sport after just owning it for 6 months, I’ve lost a fortune and got out while I still could. Was doing insurance quotes out of interest, more than doubled. It’s a shame, as I loved my Rangey so much! Such a nice car.
I've got a BMW 440i that I'm looking to trade in for an SUV. The insurance quote for a 2016 RR vogue was £2800. (My 2018 440i is £650) Rural location 🤷🏻♂️
Me & the mrs insurance went up £250 in September , we did shop around but just had to pay it. No changes in our circumstances, & I’ve just gone & checked the current prices for a renewal & it’s gone up another £250 despite having full NCB. And to be fair we live in a village 50 miles away from London so maybe we’re lucky to get insurance at all. Also the value of the car has dropped to about £10k Couldn’t get the same car 6 months ago for less than £15k To be fair we bought the car for £19k 4 years ago, so held its money for quite some time, but that’s just how it goes. Don’t think we’ll bother with a Land Rover again , probably go back to an Audi .
I do like the RR sport & full fat, I wouldn't touch the 3.0 Diesel with a barge pole due to the crank snapping issues (Same on D4), I would get the 5.0 V8 Petrol version, much more reliable. As for insurance I did a quote the other day and it was over £1300 for a 5.0 V8 RRS (not SVR) for me living in Wiltshire so not a big city ! for £500 less insurance I could get an Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio. I own 2 Landrovers now, but I would get the Alfa..
small hybrid japanese petrol automatics 50mpg + are more desirable now and going up in value , these big uk/german diesel cars are for the scrapyard now
I get the security tips, but if the thieves cant remote access the car they may choose to break into your house to get the keys. Think i would prefer them to just take the car and not put my family at risk of assault.
Folks I know had theirs lifted onto a low loader as it was parked on their st, directly in front of their house. They now have an X7 . It doesn’t matter the devices you have , if a valuable car is in the street, then its easily nickable as far as crooks are concerned. They will find a way 😢
Loved my blacked out 2016 RR Sport (unfortunately only had the SDV6)! Didn't have any problems with it whatsoever. Just remember the oil change every 6-6.5k miles.
Have a Disco with SDV6 never had a problem service it and get it checked. Most engines go I think because a lack of care and maintenance most of the time.
It's same up north. Its not just major cities. People are struggling to insure them, we have had so many people come in and trade their range rovers due to insurance premium doubling if they are able to get insurance and the theft of these cars it's up and down the country
Nice looking motor that Calvin. Like the grey and black. Ive got a 2004 Vouge parked up in dry storage. Use it for towing and family holidays. Been great in this snow today. Quality vehicles if you look after them
In answer to your question they’re going to RHD and central African countries - Kenya etc. there’s stolen RRs driving round Nairobi and Mombasa with just the Kenyan plate taped half over the UK one 😂. A few I’ve seen they’ve just chopped the front off to get the engine block - can fit more in a shipping container
It IS that bad. 6 got stolen in one night in my area including our velar. Keyless entry was off and key was in a faraday pouch. What they are doing now is following people and as you lock/unlock your car they hijack the signal and make their own key. So they rock up with a ready made key these days. Regarding a ghost I would prefer they take the car rather than someone be tempted to gain access to my house.
They also go in through the boot even with keyless disabled. My mate's Discovery was taken this way. Drilled through the boot where the tracker is, yanked out the wiring, climbed through, plugged into the OBD port for a minute to a code a new key, starter up and drove off. Took less than 2 minutes.
Great video . lots of doom and gloom about Range Rovers , Im on my 4th one , only 1 of them proved unreliable but it had done 150k and was 7k , have to maintain them well and i always use shell v power or bp ultimate and they are trouble free. Great cars if you dont want a race car
I’m just commenting on the video at 8:56 where it shows the mileage at 88 then next mileage is 87 . Don’t know where car vertical get the info from but i was just making an observation from the video footage .
I’ve had no less than 5 people I know who’ve had an Evoce, 3 bought their company car after the lease, 2 bought new. All 5 have had catastrophic engine failures that have cost them thousands! Another 2 mates have Disco’s.. both have cost them thousands also in faults. I wouldn’t have one given simple as that.
this is shame for workers in birmingham/solihull if this slows sales , JLR have been aware of the problem for years but have done nothing until recently , it is mind boggling they make such advance expensive cars but security is a 2nd thought , they should fit trackers and ghost alarms factory fitted
Its been the same with a few of the brands over the years. The usual line of thinking is leave it as long as possible because when more go missing you can sell more again. Its a disgrace that there isn't better legislation around this.
Some are stolen for parts, some for export, some for insurance jobs when people no longer want to fix/insure them. Most of it boils down to them being expensive and unreliable.
Foe sure Range Rovers are lovely cars, they're getting stolen "cos" the people stealing them have found a way to get what they want without putting in the hard work. Cheers for another good vid.
Interesting question, what vehicles aren’t plummeting Porsche are shocking, EV’s are in trouble, Mercs are half the value of last year, Volvos are giving interest free, what prestige vehicles are holding money ??
I've been watching a specific Approved Used Range Rover. In the past 6-8 weeks, it's dropped from £8,000. 69 plate car. My insurance is higher than it was to insure the equivalent car 8 years ago, but it isn't horrific when you factor in what I pay to insure my current Evoque. Though the renewal for that car is currently looking to be higher than it was when I got it 7/8 years ago :o
We are back in the 70s or 80s with car theft. If you have considered high gates at the front of your house, that is another option. If the thieving bastards can’t see your Range Rover, they don’t know where it is to come back later and want it
Boo Hoo if the insurance if going up and the value is going down. They are mostly used in city environments where they just clog up the roads. They are not necessary for the majority of motorists. I live in the country and I don’t need one.
To me Range Rovers are fascinating cars, in that so many people loathe and detest them as being the most unreliable and overrated vehicles out there, BUT an EQUAL number of people defend them to the Max and talk of years of ownership with zero problems, and how wonderful to drive and own they are. All vehicles have their lovers and haters, but none in the numbers that Range Rover vehicles have.
That’s the 3.0 that people max themselves on and then can’t afford the oil changes. The 4.4 with an every 5K flush no crankshaft issues. The 5.0 none at all. Just the timing chain. People buy them who can’t afford to maintain them. Not saying they’re reliable but that’s 50% of the problem.
I’m looking at RR Velar’s. 18 plates are averaging around the £21 - £25k price wise. Are these judged to be as temperamental as the RR Sport? The Velar looks awesome and it’s been a wish of mine for a long time to get one but I won’t if they’re as problematic as the Sport in all the ways spoken about in this vid.
Never been keen on the old Ghost immobilisers. Feel that if someone really wants your car whats to stop them putting a gun to your head for the code The Pandora system atleast lets the car move far enough away from your home and family and then shuts down the car. Good video overall tho! 😁👍
Have a hybrid plug in Range Rover Autobiography, stunning car, had it 4 months 2019 plate still haven’t filled it up with fuel, it’s been running on electric most of the time 😊
Insurance. Mine went from £300 to £850 because they made them so easy to steal. Best thing to do is buy a pedal lock box. You ain’t nicking it if the pedals don’t work
Hi guys, as a Brit’, I want to support British manufacturing- even though Jaguar Landrover is owned by the Indian company TATA. However these cars are such money pits, I would never put my own money into one. We have a friend with one, she loves it, but spends more time in a curtesy car than in her own. A neighbour had on for 2 years before giving up on it after huge garage bills, including a transmission failure at 76k miles.
I got mine and my wife’s Faraday pouch (for each key) from eBay for £5 for 2 pouches and they work fantastic. Now we have a Faraday box and house both of our main keys every night when we go to bed.
Land Rover should be liable for all of this. Shameful they way they have performed, not only from a security point of view, but a product quality viewpoint.
I have a 2016 hybrid Sport, daily drive it alot, only had small issues, my wife's BMW has had more problems, and I own the car here I'm Portugal where the price of a range rover is more than double of the UK
I think the Luton airport fire has had a negative effect on Range Rovers. I haven’t checked, but I’d suspect that the older, diesel only Range Rovers are holding their prices better.
As that RR seemed to do more miles during lockdown perhaps one of its previous owners was a former political adviser to the Govt who had trouble with his eyesight! 😂
They did pal, that’s why there’s a lot more Lexus, Audi Qs and Volvo suvs on the road..they are not as luxurious but at least it’s not Christmas 🎄 on the dash each week..
I know a guy who had a ghost immobiliser fitted to his car, and his house was broken into and his wife had her leg shattered with a hammer and his 2 Yr old held until he disabled it. He said to me, I'd rather they had just taken the car.
They are ace, typical of London area its a all bad.. up north, no issues with them getting stolen or insurance issues. Me.. im in the proper north.. £450 and they are just awesome machines class off road, just service them more often and treat them well. Most issues come from the majority of folk that can't afford to have them serviced regularly as on the payments limit.... off road they are the absolute best.
The epitome of failure... JLR 22:12 just a sinking ship, not made a profit since 2017, woeful reliability and poor build quality. Now add ridiculous insurance premiums for what is essentially a slow brick and values plummeting isn't remotely surprising...
Say what you want nothing looks or drives as well as a range rover I have a 2014 sport had it 5 years had 30,000 when I got it now done 84000 2 problems earth wire behind off side front wheel arch and rear diff seal that's it prices are still holding here Lancashire has been a great car I heard range rover are going to recall cars to sort security ,only problem if your selling private is supplying a warranty ,
My mates Discovery was stolen this year the same way. Drilled through the boot, yanked out the wiring which disables the tracker, climbed through and sat there for a minute plugged into the OBD port, assume they coded a new key and it started up and drove off.

Yea that’s really sad to see. Nobody can afford to lose this much money on an asset. I hope Taycans can recover from it 🤞
I've got a BMW 440i that I'm looking to trade in for an SUV.
The insurance quote for a 2016 RR vogue was £2800. (My 2018 440i is £650)
Rural location 🤷🏻♂️
Keep the 440i or get the X3 M40i
@@bars1512 I want something suitable for UK winter roads that doesn't drink fuel like an alcoholic lol

Also the value of the car has dropped to about £10k
Couldn’t get the same car 6 months ago for less than £15k
To be fair we bought the car for £19k 4 years ago, so held its money for quite some time, but that’s just how it goes.
The 2.0L Ingenium one goes pop regularly too.
5L petrol is nice, but a different world of fuel cost..
@@G-ra-ha-m Yup I run a Disco 3 4.4 V8 but on LPG so it's a bit cheaper but at least I know the oil pump won't fail or the crank snap.
@@trollmanrs After the first crank snap or Ingenium suicide out of warranty, fuel costs don't look so bad anyway :D
very true ! @@G-ra-ha-m
I have a 3.0 diesel Disco 4 with 80k, no trouble at all. Fantastic for wafting over broken and potholed country roads
small hybrid japanese petrol automatics 50mpg + are more desirable now and going up in value , these big uk/german diesel cars are for the scrapyard now
Poverty nation now
The RR is not Ulez compliant so that would be a major reason to have sold it if commuting into Londob
They will find a way 😢
I was speaking to a guy not so long ago and he has an Range Rover svr and says it costs him more to insure than his McLaren 😂😂
Not that silly the range rover is going to be doing a lot more millage
Seeing all the stuff online about the engines terrifies me, I’d love to own though!
Loved my blacked out 2016 RR Sport (unfortunately only had the SDV6)! Didn't have any problems with it whatsoever. Just remember the oil change every 6-6.5k miles.
Not surprised 41k and the crank snapped and 9 gearbox faults in 18 months absolutely shite car .
Have a Disco with SDV6 never had a problem service it and get it checked. Most engines go I think because a lack of care and maintenance most of the time.
@@supradan666 is surprising with the gearbox. The zf box is used in BMW's and some vag stuff and is usually very reliable.
if it said peugeot on it with all the same parts youd hate it tho
It's same up north. Its not just major cities. People are struggling to insure them, we have had so many people come in and trade their range rovers due to insurance premium doubling if they are able to get insurance and the theft of these cars it's up and down the country
Nice looking motor that Calvin. Like the grey and black. Ive got a 2004 Vouge parked up in dry storage. Use it for towing and family holidays. Been great in this snow today. Quality vehicles if you look after them
The engine problems with that TDV6 are very worrying, my 2016 very well serviced RRS crank failed at 50k……… £13k repair bill at main dealer.
The Ingenium engines are far worse than the V6 diesels they fail at a far higher rate.
My Velar D300 was knocking like a gud un at 42k miles. Full dealer history.
Maybe people are tightening there belts
I work at a car dealership in part exchange, the amount of negative equity I’ve seen in the last month from JLR customers alone is mind bending
Great video . lots of doom and gloom about Range Rovers , Im on my 4th one , only 1 of them proved unreliable but it had done 150k and was 7k , have to maintain them well and i always use shell v power or bp ultimate and they are trouble free. Great cars if you dont want a race car
So there's a 25% chance a Range Rover will be unreliable 😮
i put my keys in my wifes box ,no one is going in there its fish ,
I’m just commenting on the video at 8:56 where it shows the mileage at 88 then next mileage is 87 .
Doesn’t affect the new models
Great vid…. The misses loved Range Rover sport but had to get rid once the insurance went from 200 a month to nearly 700….. bonkers
😳
Some are stolen for parts, some for export, some for insurance jobs when people no longer want to fix/insure them.
Most of it boils down to them being expensive and unreliable.
Foe sure Range Rovers are lovely cars, they're getting stolen "cos" the people stealing them have found a way to get what they want without putting in the hard work. Cheers for another good vid.
I’m interested in buying that Range Rover, where can I find it online?
It’s sold already mate
Interesting question, what vehicles aren’t plummeting Porsche are shocking, EV’s are in trouble, Mercs are half the value of last year, Volvos are giving interest free, what prestige vehicles are holding money ??
LEXUS 300h

I've been watching a specific Approved Used Range Rover. In the past 6-8 weeks, it's dropped from £8,000. 69 plate car. My insurance is higher than it was to insure the equivalent car 8 years ago, but it isn't horrific when you factor in what I pay to insure my current Evoque. Though the renewal for that car is currently looking to be higher than it was when I got it 7/8 years ago :o
Earlier this year there was around 3-5 L405 RRs available under £20k, all high mileage or molested or non-runners. Last time I checked there was 96!
Do you think if I wait abit I might be able to get one for 10k? Running and with a long mot
yes just lowball a desperate seller @@haider7866
Noticed on the CV report that the mileage goes from 88852 miles to 87579 miles. I thought I was just seeing things but just replayed video at 8:57
The crankshaft issue can't be ignored
Feel that if someone really wants your car whats to stop them putting a gun to your head for the code
The Pandora system atleast lets the car move far enough away from your home and family and then shuts down the car. Good video overall tho! 😁👍
Sold mine, insurance took the piss, loved the car but went from £900-£3000 in one year…
Have a hybrid plug in Range Rover Autobiography, stunning car, had it 4 months 2019 plate still haven’t filled it up with fuel, it’s been running on electric most of the time 😊
Insurance. Mine went from £300 to £850 because they made them so easy to steal.
Best thing to do is buy a pedal lock box. You ain’t nicking it if the pedals don’t work
The funny part to me is that the price of those cars is still that high after the plunge......
Hi guys, as a Brit’, I want to support British manufacturing- even though Jaguar Landrover is owned by the Indian company TATA. However these cars are such money pits, I would never put my own money into one. We have a friend with one, she loves it, but spends more time in a curtesy car than in her own. A neighbour had on for 2 years before giving up on it after huge garage bills, including a transmission failure at 76k miles.
am surprised no heads up on windscreen, l thought all autobiography was fitted, l must be wrong?
Yea that’s not very common at all.
The car sits with the dealers then more on your drive soon as you come to start it it seems to have some problems
I got mine and my wife’s Faraday pouch (for each key) from eBay for £5 for 2 pouches and they work fantastic. Now we have a Faraday box and house both of our main keys every night when we go to bed.
I've just bought 2 for 6 quid on eBay and yea they work perfectly
Land Rover should be liable for all of this. Shameful they way they have performed, not only from a security point of view, but a product quality viewpoint.
I have a 2016 hybrid Sport, daily drive it alot, only had small issues, my wife's BMW has had more problems, and I own the car here I'm Portugal where the price of a range rover is more than double of the UK
Really that much double. I'll take mine to Lisbon and sell it 😂
I think the Luton airport fire has had a negative effect on Range Rovers. I haven’t checked, but I’d suspect that the older, diesel only Range Rovers are holding their prices better.
Why does the car vertical show the mileage drop? It goes from 88,582 to 87,579...
What about the common crankshaft snap problem?
As that RR seemed to do more miles during lockdown perhaps one of its previous owners was a former political adviser to the Govt who had trouble with his eyesight! 😂
👀I’m truly baffled that no one has really challenged Land Rover over these diabolical issues 4real.
They did pal, that’s why there’s a lot more Lexus, Audi Qs and Volvo suvs on the road..they are not as luxurious but at least it’s not Christmas 🎄 on the dash each week..
@@Dulla99 Re: OK
Was about to buy one a few months ago and then decided not to. My current LR Disco tripled in insurance 😢
Calvin did you have the car in sport mode when doing the 0 to 70 runs?
“Side steps” did you say, they are “running boards”. My dad had a SS jaguar and it had some decent running boards that you could stand on.
Say what you want nothing looks or drives as well as a range rover I have a 2014 sport had it 5 years had 30,000 when I got it now done 84000 2 problems earth wire behind off side front wheel arch and rear diff seal that's it prices are still holding here Lancashire has been a great car I heard range rover are going to recall cars to sort security ,only problem if your selling private is supplying a warranty ,
Land Rover build quality is shocking. There vehicles are piss poor quality. Even over the last 5/10 years. There reliability and quality is shocking
Petrol is only ones in these i buy even there not cracky ive had 6 now 2 sport 4 vogue
I live just outside London, got quotes £8,500 for my Range Rover renewal. Sold the car and brought a Cayenne instead 👌🏼 Drives better tbf
The way they do it is drill a hole in the boot and they have full cases to the wiring loom start up straight away open up
My mates Discovery was stolen this year the same way. Drilled through the boot, yanked out the wiring which disables the tracker, climbed through and sat there for a minute plugged into the OBD port, assume they coded a new key and it started up and drove off.
Maybe that’s cause no one can get insured on one unless you 40-50 years of age minimum
Did the mileage go down on the car vertical graph?
Very good keyless entry and car key box advice👌
They are a shed on wheels and remind me of the shop range and a dog called rover so I dont like them
Faraday key box... argos... cheap and you can test it on your lap in the car and you can't use start stop.... Best £25.00 I've spent 👍
Can’t imagine having to lock my car key in a box EVERY TIME you are done driving 😂 😭
@conorf8091 especially after so much money 😂
I love my Range Rover but had to learn how to fix it myself can’t afford garage prices
My insurance went up by £3000 on mine, live nowhere near London.
A ghost alarm/immobiliser will not stop it from being winched onto the back of a recovery truck Calvin.
I don't have any of those problems,my Rangey's a 2005 supercharged,runs like a Swiss watch & everything works still 👍
