  • When we were searching for a château, we always had in mind to find a place with an outbuilding apartment where Karen's parents could come and stay for longer periods of time. The caretaker's apartment in our Stables was a little rougher than we planned, but Karen's parents are pushing forward! We also had the distinct pleasure of meeting people whose family lived in the apartment during the last 100 years. What a fascinating and heartwarming education it's been.
    xoxo

    Queen's Escape was inspired by the 4 years the Belgian royal family stayed at Château de La Tuilerie during WWII. In particular, it is for the Queen. The king took shelter at a different location in France. We've named each of our guest rooms after great Queens of the past and present from around the world. Margrethe, Eleanor, Catherine, Himiko, Cleopatra, and soon our bridal suite will be ready in honor of Queen Elizabeth II.
    With it's sprawling green meadows, 100-year-old trees, and historic location in the small medieval town of Gluges, the 200-year-old château is truly an escape. With 5 guest rooms to rent and a stunning Orangery, we look forward to welcoming you for a visit or to host your wedding or event.

      I did too. I didn’t have the volume up but it was a completely joyous visit with us all talking over each other in broken French and English. There was a language barrier but sometimes it doesn’t matter. Emotion finds a way. ❤️

    I agree that you have an amazing storytelling ability. The history of the chateau is fascinating. You both are celebrating the integrity of the property and bringing it back to life. And doin the work yourself gives you both such a great sense of accomplishment. You guys are a great example of stewardship. Deborah USA 😊😊❤❤

    • @queensescape
      @queensescape  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We knew the history before we named the rooms and while the Belgian story inspired the name, we didn’t want to make that too much the focus of the business. But more the idea of a getaway for people to be treated royally. A little bit more abstract. But I can imagine bringing that story into the chateau in some creative way. 😊

      There is a while another floor above the apartment, before we get to the roof, so no, we didn’t plan on that. But I like that idea. My father installed those in his own house.

    This was SO interesting!! I love to hear the stories of the people who stayed in the past at these Chateaus. It is such a wonderful history. I really hope you will get much more glorious French visitors to help us also to understand how life was around the war. So sad that they might see another war before they die? We pray God will have mercy on all of us. Currently like my areas are set out for famine. Oh it is so sad to see people months ago had enough food, but due to recent raises in costs, more and more people are in need. Maybe those people who had to survive in the 1940's and are still alive can teach us through their stories. I wonder how they got food and who was the owners of your chateau in those years of the war. How did they receive an income to keep such a monstrosity of a place floating? By looking after the Kingly people? Hope you find many more old people to visit and please ask those questions. I know most don't want to talk about it. LIke my mother in law that had to flee from Germany when she was 16. Maybe there are who are prepared to give us advise to prepare. You have such a lovely place and I can see you are surrounded with such special French citizens. Best wishes.Thank you so much for all your efforts to give us such special insights.

    Things were so different then.
    All those rooms and put into the outhouse.
    The chateau must have touched many lives.
    Open plan seems to be the fashion in the UK but I wouldn't want to be sitting in sight of the kitchen 😊
    Would be amazing to have family there.

    New subscriber here. The historical information is priceless. Some of the chateau crowd have little info, while others have archives back 500 years. Any clues on how spaces were used, and things like the corn crib/laundry line - what a treat to know. You plans for the stable apartment look very good, and ambitious.

    Nice idea to have family close , but could I mention the kitchen needs light and bedrooms don’t really , bedrooms in the back swap living room and kitchen in the front and master in the back.. so you will have a light filled living room and kitchen ( where you live )

    • @queensescape
      @queensescape  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The living room and kitchen do stretch to the front. It’s open plan for those rooms. With the existing design, all rooms benefit from light and a window. Bathrooms are in the back at present. I so appreciate you sharing your idea. It helps us widen our discussion. 😊

    Would it be possible to make skylights in the roof of the stable?

    • @queensescape
      @queensescape  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There is an upper floor in the stable so if we did that, it would have to be those metallic tubes that run all the way up through that room to the ceiling. It would be disruptive if we decide to do something with that upper space later…. Possibly on the back side close to the wall. Hmmm. 😊

    A question ... does your tax foncière or habitation goes up when you renovate something ? Thank you

    • @BoSAChristensen
      @BoSAChristensen 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is a good question. We do not know the answer to that, but I don’t think so, because we are not adding buildings to the property. The tax fonciere this year was 2-300€ more than what the previous owner had paid before.
      The first thing we got permission to do last year, is to have gites on the property. And there’s no limitation to how many gites we can have. We only plan to have one though, and that is the old caretakers apartment. Once the new apartment is done, and Karen’s parents are not staying there, the plan is to rent it out as a Gite housing minimum 6 people. Bo
