    Hi
    Mr Varun,
I am a Thai staying in Dubai, i understand that you are a vegetarian but can’t convey that properly to thai rural people, would like to give you a little advice. Don’t tell that you are vegetarian just tell them that you need “Jay food “ . It means food with out any kind of meat, eggs or fish sauce as even in vegetarian food they use fish sauce instead of salt. I hope this helps you in your coming days of travel. If you have any further queries regarding anything about Thailand please feel free to ask me. Khop khun kha 😊

Remember one thing every country has its own definition of vegetarian. Outside India most of the countries treat eggs, oyster cream, sea food as vegetarians. If you want to be absolutely sure that what you are eating is plant based then only visit VEGAN (no animal products, not even dairy) restaurants. It's even better to have fruits only.

Most Thai cooks/ food preparers don't even know that most sauces they use in most of their dishes contain either "curry paste" (i.e. has fish) or shrimp paste or both.

This vlog was a contrast ....of feelings....feeling proud of oneself @3:37 for exploring such a beautiful place and enjoying the beauty of nature ....to feeling of guilt @6:55 for not able to sustain the habit of eating vegetarian ....
But its ok we not need to be harsh on ourselves for things we may do unknowingly and may be sometimes knowingly (as they may feel right at that time but later we realise that it could have been done on better way) ... if we will not forgive us then who? .....and if we will not love us then who?
So the reaction was enough to make us feel the same you felt but ....bade bade deshon mein ....kabhi shayad aisa ho jaata hai...next time will be more careful....so jaane dete hai isse...
And surely in the rural areas beauty is at its best ....making you feel the best....
Baki .... shayad apne desh mein AAM jaisi cheez khareedna kitna aasan hai....you may have felt the difference 😝
But thats also a beautiful experience to engage in the conversation with locals...and the handmade basket was surely a souviner to be kept.

I had this problem when I was in Thailand, so after some research I’ve understood that Buddhists aren’t meat eaters. So in my travels across South East Asia, I used to specify I need Buddhist food and there was always vegetarian food. Meat was substituted with soya or mushrooms.

For anyone who loves travel and exploring new destinations and cultures and meeting people, it helps to pick up a few important phrases in the local language, esp related to food if you have preferences.
There are plenty of phrase books, apps, online material and, definitely, Google Translate. Just relying on English and expecting locals to understand you can only give you so much results and rob you of the fun of a great travel experience.
