  • We need to completely reseal the transmission on the abandoned Yanmar tractor project. This tractor transmission has many leaking gaskets and oil seals. We need to split the tractor to check the clutch, and brakes too. This tractor is never going to leak oil again! TOOLS BELOW ↓↓↓↓

    Bravo making a gasket
    I was taught as a young lad. Use a ball peen hammer. Back side of head round. Cuts the fastener holes all pretty. Save the carpenters hammer for building a shed.

      Thanks man. Yea I just grab whatever hammer I can reach at the time. I need to use the ball peen more.

    I've had 6 Yanmars over the years. Fixed and flipped 4 and kept 2. One of the flips was a Yanmar 3000 that I did an inframe on. Still kicking myself for selling that one. Made good money but it was a heck of a tractor. I'll go kick myself some more now.

      That's awesome. These things used to be a lot cheaper. What was the best model you had? Lol

      @@MattsShop At my shop building I use a 2310 as a dedicated spray tractor to only spray herbicide to keep grass killed in the lot. Just painted it (see videos). My favorite was the Yanmar 3000 I sold after fixing it. Big enough for a 2 acre truck patch,small enough to reach diversion valve on a 50 gallon 3pt sprayer from the seat.But my JD 1250 (built by Yanmar in the 1980's) is one of my go to tractors. Never has let me down and will pull a 6' bush hog in thick stuff 6' tall. Had a JD 1050 that was another fix and flip (paid 3000.00 sold for 4200.00 with nothing but fluid changes and a 200.00 top): used it to pull a JD 2 bottom plow,5'disc,1 row planter,etc. And yup,they use to be A LOT cheaper. Picked up the 2310 for 800.00 according to my wife,who is next to me. JD 1250 was bought at same auction on same day: $1200.00 for it if my memory is right. Been more than a couple of years ago but I think less than 8 or 9.I'm always on the lookout for Yanmars at a good price. Love 'em. Fixed and flipped 50+ tractors,dozers,backhoes etc last 20 years or so. Profitable hobby and a cash business.....

    Nice videos, 10:35 push the ball bearings in with the outer edge so you don't damage the balls in the ball bearing.

    Great video Matt! I was lucky with my Yanmar 1700, the transmission screen was dirty and the fluid was dark but there was no water to be found. I need to replace the shifter plate gasket cause it leaks. . If I every have to pull the transmission apart, I have your video to reference!
    Top tip time. If you use the ball end of a ballpeen hammer, can punch out the gasket holes with it. Just lay the gasket on the cover and gently tap around the holes with the ball end. Hope this helps.
    Keep the vids coming!

    • @MattsShop
      @MattsShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice! You did get lucky. Water sat mixed in this transmission for a while, but It didn't really damage anything. Yes, use this video to help.
      I bet this oil is over 10 years old.
      I know, it works better with a ball peen hammer.

      @@MattsShop I'm looking forward to the engine rebuild video. My tractor uses gobs of oil and I'm getting combustion gases in the coolant. Here's hoping its just a blown head gasket rather than a cracked head.
      Again thanks for the awesome vids!

    I wish your videos were up 8-10 years ago when I did all this. I read and learned on my own with forums and the manual. I did writing posts on it on TBN yanmar forum. Also filmed some of it but I am lazy and hate computer stuff and didn't ever do anything with it.

    I didn't see you engage the PTO selector with the gears on the assembly, and maybe it's different than the ym2000, but there is an arm you have to reach in and engage with the sliding part of the assembly that selects PTO speed. I saw you pry that nut and shaft out but that's not the same and maybe it's different?

      I am having trouble getting PTO shifter right so I can slide PTO assembly back in 😟

  • @natevanlandingham1945
    @natevanlandingham1945 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just used RTV on those PTO rear assembly and the top 3pt assembly part of the case when I did mine. Easier and way quicker. Tolerances are not critical.

    You can get away with metric or standard o rings in some places but Yanmar used Japanese spec orings that are harder to find. Critical orings need to be proper ones if they hold lots of pressure.

    Anytime you use a paper gasket you want to use Aviation sealer on it it will stop any bleed through the gasket

    I cannot get my PTO cover off for shit. You make it look so damn easy at 2:20. All the bolts and nuts are off, PTO selector is off but it doesn’t budge. Hammer, 4 foot prybar this thing doesn’t move.

    About now, I'm wondering what duty this tractor will get.
    My 2020D is amazingly fuel efficient.
    Bet that 2cyl and 2wd unit will simply sip fuel!
    Here ya have me goated me into a trans flush, come spring. Thanks.
    Yeah, unless that hammer is an old friend, try a ball pean, for gaskets.

      Checkout #44, #69, and #70.
      You need 2 axle seals per side.
      This is for a Yanmar YM2000B.
