Joe Montana was great BECAUSE he faithfully executed Bill Walsh's system. Bill Walsh wanted the ball delivered exactly 12 inches in front of the numbers. 24 inches was a do over. Bill Walsh picked Joe Montana because he had quick feet, could see the entire field, knew where literally every player on the field would be, and delivered with excellent timing. Brock Purdy reminds me of watching Joe Montana in 1980.
Our High school JV coach wanted the ball 12 inches in front of the receiver. that is not a super great thing for a coach, doing it is really hard at any leverl.

People are still skeptical because he was the last pick in the draft. It's ridiculous how much his draft position influences the doubt people have for him even though all he does is win since being the starter. He doesn't have ridiculous physical gifts like Allen or Mahomes but he's very Brees/Brady like where he wins through intellect, consistency, and not making mistakes.
All those guys you named had to will their down down a hole, Mahomes 24-0, Brady 28-3, Allen 17-3, Purdy has never been in that situation. Not everything is hate, when you have a top 5(realistically top 3) offense its very easy to look good up points. The defense will never let you down, all he has to do it not lose the game. Thats much less pressure than being down 17 while the defense plays zone all game long.
100% If he was drafted say in the second or third the hype behind him would be insane. If he had been drafted in the first.... Everyone would be calling him the next big thing. Which would be just a hype train, he is a good quarterback, but time will tell just how high his ceiling is, but it does bug me the number of people that do dismiss him and even though they won't admit it it's because he was the last pick in the draft.
@JurnaMusic That's incorrect. It's that he's had the longest, most improbable string of so-so opponents. He has almost never had to face elite teams. The one time he did, he was promptly dispatched from the game.
@JurnaMusic That, and the fact that he is not dynamic at all. He has no special skills to speak of. None. He is a stowaway, a fan who snuck backstage and was told he could stay.

I actually really like purdy. He doesn’t make a lot of mistakes, is calm, picks his pockets, works hard. It’s not exciting but it doesn’t matter as long as theure winning
Purdy is just a solid dude. I watched the game and in the first half, he definitely struggled with accuracy issues. Even that first TD pass was a little to the right and Ronnie Bell made a super clutch catch. However, Shanahan adjusted the playbook and had him make the needed throws to open receivers midfield who could then be trusted to run for more YAC, much like Deebo. Purdy made very smart decisions and just got the ball out fast before he could get sacked, and he trusted his receivers to do the rest. And to his major credit, then that dime to Deebo for a TD was easily the best throw of the game. Do I think Purdy will go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time? Time will tell. But for all the skepticism I had before the start of this season as to whether he could continue that hot streak, he has shown that he's the real deal for this team, and that with him at the helm, they can win the Super Bowl. And I say that as a Chiefs fan.
Purdy is a good QB for this team. Take care of the ball, get it to your skill guys and let them work out. Recipe for success. I bet money his WR's, slots, TE's, and RBs love him. The defense and special teams does too. Doesn't turn it over while they are in field goal position, means the kicking team gets on the field. He skill guys get their yards and TDs. Defense isn't always in bad field position. Etc. I really like Purdy. And he's shown he can clutch games in the 4th. Everything you need at QB.
For real and he was getting blitzed at a higher rate than anyone is NFL history. Watch some breakdowns of his throws, he had dudes in his face and he had to make some clutch throws. I hate Nick's opinion in this one, looking like a Cowherd smh
@MARKOPOLO876 I think Nick is falling for the false dichotomy that if Purdy is not elite, then it's going too far to say he's good. He's not elite, and maybe he'll never be. His athleticism is more limited than many other QBs. But here's the thing... he doesn't HAVE to be elite! He's making smart decisions and leading the team well, and for Shanahan, who is putting on an offensive clinic now, that's all that's needed.
Lol. You really just said “time will tell” if he goes down as one of the greatest quarter backs EVER…right after you called him “solid.” Not good, great, amazing, and then said he’s “the real deal FOR the Niners” the BEST TWO WAY team in football…greatest supporting cast. By that metric, HALF the Qbs in the NFL could go down as one of the Greatest OF ALL TIME 😂😂😂😂
Regardless of what nick tried to say, brou was right that what nicks holding against purdy is his draft position. If he was a #1 overall pick doing what hes done since he took over the starting job, nick would be calling HIM the prince...

The 49ers will be dubs with Purdy. He's a smart guy who understands Shanahan's system. What makes him great is not his cannon arm, dual threat abilities, but the way he sees on the field and can serve the playmakers. We are witnessing the beginnings of a winning era in Frisco. All this, of course, supported by a cruel defense. The system and how he understands the game will make Purdy an MVP.

He's not dying on this hill though. I watched the entire game and came away thinking he is an average QB on a great team. 90% of his throws are 5 yards and he just gets YAC. I think a reasonable take on him starts with his experience. Four years of college was beneficial for him. He plays it safe but knows when to take his chances on big plays. That's experience. His throws are safe, too. He often targets to the outside shoulder on numbers, he throws in front of his receivers and away from MLBs and DBs in between the hashes and his redzone throws go either to his guy or over the top and out. That's experience, too. He's poised under duress and converts 3rd downs because he knows what to look for and what to avoid in almost every situation. That's experience, too. He's also had only one fumble for a loss so far. He doesn't put the ball in harm's way. And the best thing is, he plays for peanuts, so 49ers can retain their expensive playmakers. 49ers offense is a well-oiled machine and Purdy operates that machine well. 49ers are still going to be injured a lot which will harm their championship chances.
Good breakdown. You can say the same thing about any team when it comes to injuries though. With half of their stars injured they should still be able to win.
As a KC fan I have to say the 49ers are the most exciting team to watch right now. They are stacked from top to bottom and Purdy is looking good! I don't care if it's his weapons or what it is. I get why nick Is doing it. Everyone did it to mahomes and others he likes lol, and it's for fun too. Keeps the arguments going. Great show as always. 😂
but if you watched Mahomes in college and let your eyes do the 'analyzing', you should have seen how 'good/great' he was! Using those same eyes to evaluate Purdy at Iowa State...you would NOT come to the same realization looking at Purdy! Not saying he's not 'good', but again, we're talking a small sample size, no matter what his won/loss #'s are during what...8, 9 games as the starting QB? ;-) Purdy will never be the type of QB to throw more than say 25 TD's per year. I also doubt he'll ever come close to beating JimmyG's 'best game' as a Niner, which was against the CARDS in 2019 when JimmyG threw for over 420+ yards w/4TD's... Purdy's success will ride with a healthy Deeboo/Kittle/Aiyuk/CMC and company!
Even if it is the weapons he does what he needs to do: protect the football and get it to his playmakers. He’s not an elite QB, but he gets the job done in an efficient manner.
@@itzanopinionHe's thrown multiple TD passes in every regular season game except one. He threw 3 against Seattle in the playoffs. The Cowboys and Rams games are the only games he didn't throw a TD. Not sure what the "he'll never throw for 25 TDs in a season" is about

See, this is why I don't like sports analyses, because they are great players as players individually, everything that's good, need a lot of things to go right for them to be good, you need a great coach, a good system, a good offensive coordinator, good general managers, people in the organization as believing you an improving you, and he's only been in the league.a year you show me any other rookie, and the first fifteen games is not a star player who is doing what he's doing, give the guy a little respect, no one said he was Joe Montana, but he could win games
I don't think Nick is hating, he makes a very good argument, so do Broussard and Wildes, Nick just has a different opinion, that's all there is to this, maybe he'll be right, maybe he'll be wrong, only time will tell

The eye test, forget the stats, the eye test tells you this guy Brock Purdy is foreal. His instincts and intangibles along with his quick delivery is what makes him valuable . Not his arm talent. But he’s definitely savvy, he extend plays and doesn’t fold when the pocket collapse. That will keep him around for a long time. He came right off the bench last season against Miami Dolphins doing the samething he’s been doing every game, instead of waiting on him to fail maybe this is who he is.
It’s his competence, his ability to use what talent he DOES have to execute to perfection. It’s his confidence and poise. You can have someone with all the talent and slow-processing IQ in the world, without that comfortable poise you’re Zach Wilson
Nick, answer this honestly.... Did you take away from Mahomes a few years ago when he inherited a team with the fastest WR, a top level TE, and an elite head coach calling plays for him ? Just curious
This is one of the rare times I side with Brou over Nick. Brady had nothing about him that looked special either. He was smart though, he knew the system, he played within the system, and he didn't make deadly mistakes. I think Brock is an about average quarterback who is going to be smart enough to let the rest of the team win games for them and perhaps win a superbowl. Put another way, I don't trust him enough to be the QB on my fantasy team, but I do trust him enough to not butcher things so much he makes Deebo Samuel's any less valuable.
I think he is top 5, he is hands down the best processor in the game & it isn't even close. He is top 3 in accuracy & pocket presence, & he has the requisite arm strength to do all you need to do. I am old enough to remember them telling me Montana ain't better than Marino, ain't better than Elway, ain't better than Boomer, ain't better than Simms cause they were all more physically gifted than him.
So far this season there are 15 TEAMS with a higher completion rate than the 49ers. Thru two games (three of the 49ers) that means that Purdy is nowhere close to top 3 in accuracy. Dak Prescot has a completion rate of 71% which is higher than Purdy and that was playing the first game in a driving rain the entire game.
Kobe defined greatness in Steph...he has a calmness about him...Brock appears to have that same calmness and the team senses that and performs. Brady had that same calmness and look what he became...😮😮😮
No offense to Nick, but the Niners were playing scrimmage on Thursday. The fact that Ronnie Bell was not only on the field, but scoring a touchdown, the Niners were just trying things out, not looking to make a statement like the Cowboys needed to make.
I like Brock Purdy. He's playing well and I think he's good enough to take the 49ers as far as they want to go. That said, he's had quite a few throws that are pretty bad and he's gotten pretty luck so far this year.
That’s true, but it’s good to remember that he’s still a rookie cast into this role rather quickly. And he’s played tremendously well for this situation
Purdy playing mistake-free football means that he will lose your team fewer games than Josh Allen. Now, he's not better than Allen, but on the 49ers roster/system, being mistake-free and an excellent decision maker are arguably the most valuable traits a QB can have.
Allen would manage to lose more games than Purdy has for the 49ers. Highlight reel plays don't win you more games if they're matched by an equally impressive set of bloopers.
49ers have made it further than cowboys and even beat the cowboys in the playoffs multiple years (recently). So Like the Chiefs deserve respect for their history of playoff success puts them over the Lions even though the Lions beat them head to head, the 49ers also deserves to be higher than the Cowboys, who like Brou says, is a "silly team".

If it was Trey Lance doing what Purdy is doing Nick would be making an mvp argument
Nah FR
@@KKOOLSKOOL this I agree with
He’s already doing it for Baker
That's facts 😂
What is he doing ?
People are still skeptical because he was the last pick in the draft. It's ridiculous how much his draft position influences the doubt people have for him even though all he does is win since being the starter. He doesn't have ridiculous physical gifts like Allen or Mahomes but he's very Brees/Brady like where he wins through intellect, consistency, and not making mistakes.
That’s why Brady‘s story is amazing: he never let his draft position dictate his capability.
49ers got really lucky with Brock Purdy. He's terrific.
No one would ever consider Purdy to do anything close to what he's doing now this time last year. He's doing great without keynote mistakes.
That's all he's asked to do. Alex Smith is a great QB too then.

And I say that as a Chiefs fan.
yea, swing pass MVP

All this, of course, supported by a cruel defense. The system and how he understands the game will make Purdy an MVP.

Good breakdown 👍🏾👍🏾
Good breakdown. You can say the same thing about any team when it comes to injuries though. With half of their stars injured they should still be able to win.

but if you watched Mahomes in college and let your eyes do the 'analyzing', you should have seen how 'good/great' he was! Using those same eyes to evaluate Purdy at Iowa State...you would NOT come to the same realization looking at Purdy! Not saying he's not 'good', but again, we're talking a small sample size, no matter what his won/loss #'s are during what...8, 9 games as the starting QB? ;-)
Purdy will never be the type of QB to throw more than say 25 TD's per year.

You forgot to add Brady one of the biggest cheaters ever in nfl.
@@michaelbradley8209 STOP with the hate! Brady's the GOAT! It's time to move on.
@@pfpchad2747at least 3 of his rings should be questioned due to cheating
My thoughts exactly
@@persistentlypathetic6820You could say the same about Mahomes, especially this last one that was a joke. Brady at least has talent
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nick is right for now
Kobe defined greatness in Steph...he has a calmness about him...Brock appears to have that same calmness and the team senses that and performs.
These guys are SO MUCH fun to watch. 😂
I like Brock Purdy. He's playing well and I think he's good enough to take the 49ers as far as they want to go. That said, he's had quite a few throws that are pretty bad and he's gotten pretty luck so far this year.
He had several last year. Defense has to make plays too. But, his positive plays, far outweigh his negative ones.
That’s true, but it’s good to remember that he’s still a rookie cast into this role rather quickly. And he’s played tremendously well for this situation
@@cosmicnomad8575 Stop it with the nuanced takes. If Purdy's not as good as Mahomes, he's trash.
@@tprountzosoh so every other quarterback is trash? With that argument Patrick mahomes Is trash compared to Brady.
@@ridleymain9234 it’s called sarcasm.
No one knocks mahomes for playing with hill and kelce or for being coached by Reid.
215 of Brock Purdy’s yard we’re YAC. It’s not him, it’s the system and players around him
Purdy playing mistake-free football means that he will lose your team fewer games than Josh Allen.
Honestly by end of this season I don’t believe it will be a wild take to say Brock is better than Josh Allen… just sayin
49er fan here. Absolutely NOBODY wouldve guessed this kid would be playing this consistently well when he came into that tough game against Miami early.
Neverrrrrrrrr change I love this show!!!
