I saw Mitch Rompola at a deer seminar in the mid '90s. I asked him a question about taking dirt from an active scrape, putting it in a plastic bag and then dumping it into another buck's scrape miles away. He said he had never heard of doing that. A few months later I saw him at another seminar and he was talking about how he had been doing that very thing for years. Right then I knew he was a liar.
@@bryce8174 I only tried it a couple of times. That was back before trail cameras so I don't know if it worked or not. It never made any difference while I was in the stand.
I think everyone who doesnt have alot of money or property enjoys watching the hunting public, and the adrenaline guys. They dont have anything fancy and just put in the work and play the odds and variables. It's way more impressive to kill a mature public land buck or find sheds because is so difficult. The people who have all the sponsors and gear are the ones who need it the least. When you raise the deer like cattle, name them and pass them until your ready to kill them it's just a different animal. Every guy wishes they had a 1000 acres and all the time and money to shoot 170 inch deer regularly but it's hard to listen to people talk like there gear and clothes are products are what makes the difference.
Amen brother. The big muscle head guy is a lot like that too. Shoots 200" deer every yr and names em all. Sponsors, The whole deal. Cant remember his name. He lives in iowa now. His wife hunts too. Clown show. 🤡
I hunt public and private land in New England, it’s a not even remotely the same as the states THP hunts in. I’m not impressed them until they kill a mature buck in northern New England, I would give them the entire season and would put my money on them coming up empty handed. Northern New England there is no boundaries it is open to everyone and you have to stalk a buck usually for miles. Hunters in New England are used to putting in the relentless leg work to have success, we don’t know any different. I believe they would throw in the towel after not seeing anything for a few days, but I would respect them more if they tried getting out of their comfort zone which is the Midwest
What happened to a good old fashion hunt with family or friends and not worry about harvesting a record class deer let's get back to the basics and enjoy the great outdoors we're only here for a short while ☺️
I am from Arkansas and I agree with you 100% we should enjoy the time we get to spend with family and friends hunting today because tomorrow someone we know and love could be gone
Yup. Me too my grandfather was a big deer. Hunter but never cared about horns. He just loved. Hunting and being out in nature and putting a little food on,the table. I hate all this. Who's the best hunter and look what I killed. Hunting used to be Somthing you just enjoyed no competition between hunters. Just getting out having fun. ,,I used to love to rabbit hunt and hearing the hounds give chase. On a crisp Saturday morning. Or squirrel hunting. Late of the evenings. Etc,,
Nothing wrong with laid back hunting with friends but there’s nothing wrong with trying to kill bigger bucks either. Everybody should define success according to their own standards.
I was hoping this discussion would have been more analytical. Instead it just seemed to me that two guys with preconceived determinations just fed off each other to validate their own stance. The vast majority of all the substantiating points were conjecture. Not saying they are wrong but was just hoping that they would have not come across so bias and that would have added to credibility to their opinion
If you know the coverage Deer & Deer Hunting magazine gave this story from the beginning, you'd know Dan Schmidt didn't have preconceived ideas about this buck.
I’m glad they brought up the hunting public at the end. Those guys are awesome no matter the antler size. I’ve learned a lot from this channel as well!
Not sticking up for Rompola here or downplaying Mr. Eberhardt's accomplishments but as a young man growing up in Michigan nobody believed Mr. Eberhardt was consistently killing all of his big bucks in Michigan either. Michigan was not known for producing deer like this year in and year out back then. Now things have changed due to the habits of hunters and Michigan regularly produces record class deer. Greed unfortunately has begun to erode at the purity of hunting whitetail deer. People who get caught up in antler scores have done more to help the anti hunting community in their pursuit to prove hunters only care about the trophy on the animals head rather than the experience and the providing of sustenance for family and friends.
Eberhart just trying to stay relevant like HRC. As many people that have accussed him of poaching deer in his younger days and he wants to come on here and do the same to someone and like he said, "its his opinion". This is ridiculous. Eberharts time will come when the up and comer wants to dethrone him off his king of michigan hunters speel.
@@voiceforthevoicelesstruth5480 regardless of where it was killed, isnt a world record a..............world record? This is all useless. Bring the witnesses. Period
Michigan grows absolute giants. Especially manistee county north. I mean just last year 2 bucks in newaygo county scored over 180” there are at least 3 bucks that go over 200” shot around here. I like how the guy said in Michigan antlers don’t go 2 years without getting gnawed on. I’ve found sheds that were 3-4 years old.

Great channel guy’s. I live in SC and I’m bow hunter, coyote trapper, and fisherman. Love the outdoors and the trophy is always in the eye of the beholder. I was always wondering about the Rompola buck and now I know more info. Thank you
Hey brother SC hunter myself,,,,best I killed was 2009,, Fairfield county,,,21 inch spread,,,6inch bases,,,,8pt,,,,,,ain't done better since,,,,but still trying,,,,,, good luck this season 👍😜
The King buck owner has those sheds its 99 inches on one side! This guy doesnt want to talk about what Milo Hansen did to the King buck, and how about Mitch lived in the woods and didnt like all the attention, this John guy sounds like hes taken sides and he has something against Mitch. You can see the deer on a video when he recovered it. Many saw the skull plate too!
Here's a question for you guys somewhat related to this. Do you think that some hunters just have a kind of sixth sense that makes them a better hunter? I know a couple guys that just kill nice bucks regularly while the rest of us struggle along. I watch a lot of videos, read a lot and spend days if not weeks of time scouting. I'm very careful about scent control and playing the wind. I get deer on camera (some nice bucks too) so I know they are around but I struggle to lay eyes on them when hunting. Yes, I do hunt primarily public land but I still wonder if figuring deer out comes easier to some.
when i was younger and didnt know any better(sarcasm) i used to walk and see a spot that just jumped out at me that said this is a deer spot, based on nothing but looks and feel and it worked great then I started reading and watching shows that told me what i needed to find and my luck has never been as good. When your gut says this is the spot listen to it, regardless of sign or anything else.
That's how I was taught to hunt meat came first horns was a bonus now saying that I have taken some nice bucks but and mid size doe is my favorite deer to get and I get the same rush from that as a big bucks
24:40 I grew up in Cadillac just south of TC and big bucks weren't something I saw a lot. I moved to Kalamazoo and the bucks I've seen near WMU's campus are in a class all their own. They are MASSIVE compared to the deer you see strapped to the rooftop of south bound traffic on 11/16. The bucks I see in KZoo usually aren't alone and their only real threat to them are the roads but so many people stop to watch them the car's are more likely to get hit than the deer
Deer and deer hunting magazine always was and still is my favorite magazine. Learned a whole lot about deer hunting. I vividly remember this article and was completely fascinated with it. Great job on your research and hunting articles.
Some guys aren't about the fame. MILO'S lawyers shut it down cause they were losing money. I shot a buck that would be number 1 or 2 typical in a Midwest state. But won't put him in the the books due to the attention that brings to an area.
Gary Berger, who scored the Rompola buck just released a statement on the Mitch Rompola fan Club page. Says ''I am one of three that scored Mitch's buck. It is real""
The buck was scored by three competent CBM and P&Y scorers who spent 2.5 hours with it and testified it was real. Dozens of people examined the deer including DNR officers in the days after the buck was harvested.
A proper panel of scorers was put together, waiting for his phonecall. He side-skirted them, avoiding them, and phoned around to get a couple to gome measure it. He did everything he could to AVOID having it done legitimately.
There are many super freak rack bucks killed and alot still roaming. The truth is u guys don't get out much.. The story is soooo old and the rest of us hunters have moved on. Stop beating a dead horse..matter of fact stop beating a dead buck.. only one man knows the truth and thats the way it should be.
I have looked into this buck also and so many people say that Mitch did not care about trophy deer. Well, looking into his history it is clear that he did care about trophies. He entered state records in missouri and wisconsin and boasts about them in an interview. He has a photo holding a trophy plaque and another huge cup trophy in front of him. He poses with trophies not to mention he posted pics on a website he created posing with monster bucks. That does not sound like someone who does not want attention and recognition. Ltes face it people, if that deer was legit he would have for damn sure entered it and certified it as the world record. Instead he refuses to have it xrayed even when he was offered 10,000 to let them xray it Mitch refused. Why? Because it was fake plain and simple. There is no mystery and no doubt that Mitch Rompola was trying to fabricate a new world record.
Mitch is a recluse, the guy lives like a hermit, his property has more posted signs that you could buy at all the local hardwares combined. I am not saying its real, certainly some bizarre things going on. That said, he has no obligation to enter it or show anything to anyone. The guy was and is relentlessly attacked since 1998 over this deer. Also, and I think something that plays a role, Mitch was going through some legal issues like keeping mail at his home that he wasn't delivering at his postal job at the time and also, filming up womans skirts... You can imagine that he wouldn't want too much attention on himself. I think he should have came out with it but hes an odd duck...
I live and Hunt in the SW part of Virginia, I have been Lucky over my 40 year of hunting to harvest 2 bucks over 150,mind you,40yrs!! I harvested one with a bow Hoyt To be exact, the other with a Parker Crossbow..
These stories remind me of guy local here in NH, George Tomberelo. He goes out west and shoots a deer tied to a fence and then comes back and has it put on the local Hawkeye like he’s a great white hunter.
It's funny you talk about no record book buck were entered. Not many people give 2 craps about being in a record book. I don't score my deer bc I see it as distasteful. Score chasing has ruined hunting imo. Tons of people have lost places to hunt over score chasing and alot have stopped hunting completely bc of it.
I'm glad to hear em bring up the South and particularly bringing up hunting Georgia Public Land hunting. Something I've been doing for well over 20 years now. A lot of those properties get a bad rep because so many times the land is way over hunted and it's so hard to find deer on em. BUT, it can be done and finding a nice buck on em is a chore. So i guess I must be a badass....lol
The most interesting part of this whole conversation to me is the guy that owns the rights to the Hansen buck. Him willing to sue another guy for claiming they have the new world record taints the record books right there. How many bucks have been scored slightly off to miss the Hansen due to lawsuits and threats. The guy didn't even shoot the Hansen buck. It's an industry for him.
Why would that taint anything? How could anybody involved with the Hanson buck sue you successfully if you had legally killed the new legitimate world record buck? On what grounds would the lawsuit be based? No, the only reason to slink away and shut up when faced with a lawsuit in this case is because you know you are lying and the rack is fake. And it is fake. Mitch has a long history of dishonesty and even criminal behavior.
Lawfare is a real thing. Every good Hunter I know in Indiana would be happy to have the local guys look at it maybe even a photo in the paper but if you said a news agency wanted to talk to them they wouldn’t answer their phones. Very private, guarded people.
He sued him for claiming it was a record without having it verified, and this dude was all about getting his bucks measured and published in the magazines all the way up until he was asked to have it checked. Seems pretty fishy to me
I don't think i have ever heard any of The Hunting Public guys refer to the scores of antlers on deer they kill. They do have a meat grinder/packaging endorsement. Just Sayin
Man the industry really warps some minds. Big bucks, for Big money. Man with all the controversy in, and around deer hunting I find it funny so many people are so hung up on Mitch, and all this National record talk. Obviously the man never entered one deer into any national records. The industry was growing, booming at this time. 10 years prior there where only a hand full of family's in the industry, all of a sudden we had thousands of people trying to work into the industry. The money, and the fame come with criticism. Not all men want that on a national level. Not all men shot big deer hoping for big money, and national fame. Weather Mitch did, or didn't shot all these great deer. This whole interview dose a excellent job showing just how criticized one man can be. I've heard both sides of the opinions on Mitch, and his deer. In my opinion Mitch is a woodsman, above woodsman. I think someone got jealous, Hanson for one, but I think for him that passed pretty quickly. Why a local would still sit, and claim ( they believe he was going for a record) is beyond me. That's one man's prospective. I believe Mitch is poor honest man that got to close to a industry that is out for money, and all Mitch cares about to this day are the deer. Not the money the deer can get him. I enjoy the great outdoors, and I enjoy many shows, and videos on hunting. I do not enjoy knowing what happens behind the scenes within the industry. Glad I finally came across the big story that shares the new exciting news of ( The House Fire That Takes a Record) it never was a record, and never will be. He's obviously moved on, and over all of it. Especially with (The Industry) Even if the man faked it. I believe he learned his lessons long ago. Why we have men talking about poor quality fake rakes, and a (house fire) Me knowing the house fire is fake news for shock factor is hilarious. Just as you fellas paint a picture of Ole Mitch that makes it look like his story is full of holes. I believe the same can be said for thus one. Guess you gotta pay the bills somehow between the seasons. Glad to see someone is still keeping Mitch's name in the industry though. People deserve to know, and research for themselves.
The amount entered in the record books don't necessarily reflect on how many big bucks are actually killed. A guy killed one down the road from me in Maryland and it was a little over 26" inside spread. I held the rack while my cousin raised his arms and walked inside the rack and turned around and walked out. It was massive with thick beams. They guy wasn't even getting it mounted not alone entering it in the record books. I know very few people that enter their deer in the books. The old guy that let's me hunt has one on the wall a little over 25" inside that he killed on his own property with a pumpkin ball he said. He said there were two together that were identical and he got one. Idk if the Rompola buck is real or not. If it's real it's a shame the guy is treated like this. If it's fake I guess he deserves it.
Agreed. Same with fish, not everybody cares or is even aware of the record books. And scoring antlers is complicated for the average hunter, unlike measuring a fish. We don’t have all the data on deer because the vast majority are never scored or entered.
I think there's a lot of jealousy, and obviously these guys don't like Mitch, therefore they consider him liar. If they liked him, I'm sure story would be different.
Yet this guy wouldnt let people look at it or xray it for 10K! he also agreed to not claim it was the largest! in out of court settlement, he then keeping shooting more of these 220+ when nobody was even getting any 170s in the area! LOL
I was fortunate as a young man to kill a monster in shiawassee county that wound up being the number 2 non typical and to my knowledge still is. I had that buck scored by Jack Eddy. Jack was a retired police man that held the most record bucks in Michigan. His goal was to get a record in every county. He was in close contact with Mitch and told me he had plenty of conversations about the buck in question. Jack also said Mitch lived in the woods 365. I currently live 20 minutes from Traverse City. This area has tons of topography, swaps, and agricultural. These all add up to big buck potential where I am from. The deer in this area have great potential to get to trophy age due to the hunting conditions. The wind in this area seems to always be shifting and that’s a huge advantage to the deer. The sections are not small or square. We have tons of large swaps as well. I have a hard time ruling this buck out as fake. I am just another person that can’t say definitely but I was told Bill Bailey from honor did see it first hand and did confirm it was real. Bill held the Benzie county record for years. Hopefully time will tell what we all wonder. Till then it’s hard for anyone to say for sure it’s not real. Damon Granger

It only bealt hanson buck by 3". Is it possible he broke skull plate to get that spread. Also his ground footage video to pictures looks different on the angle of the antlers from skull, plus droopy ears& eyes. Would also explain why he refused xrays.
I’ve killed three over 160 including my best at 198 1/8. Here’s a tip…once you get s big buck on camera, stay away. Don’t go back in there checking your pics every few days. Don’t go back until the hunt. Once you leave your scent in that area, any mature buck is gone.

The biggest one had his eye gored out, missing chunks of hide, smelled like a sewer rat. That’s what I’m after.
You're wrong about it not being on the internet back then, even though the internet was only a few years old, forum style hunting websites were extremely popular, and it was all over those sites, that's how I found about it, and where I saw the first pictures of it.
I wouldn't take anything these guys say for what they did to the Kings buck!! You guys realize there's world record whitetails out there on people's walls that don't care to get them measured!
Man, I'm dumbfounded by the stuff I've heard from this video, and let me say I'm not sticking up for Mitch Rompola at all, I live in Traverse city Michigan, our family name homesteaded here back in 1865, the Mr. Eberharts comments on sandy soil is so out of touch, I'd love to buy him a shovel for him for x-mas and take him to some land and have him dig his little heart out trying to find sandy soil, (it all depends on where your at, period) The area that Mitch hunts, and I know it well is low land dark soil, rich in nutrients. His nephew roomed with me for a while, and told me how many hours each day Mitch spends scouting these big deer, know their movements etc...the third thing I'd like to say is, I don't remember the year it was but I was at Roy's general store when Mitch himself brought this (IMO) HUGE buck in, freshly caped, to show the owners of the store, there was still small amounts blood seaping from the cape, again I don't remember if it was a 8 or 10 pt, I just remember its was massive (IMO). I don't deer hunt any more, I don't care what people think of Mitch or what I just wrote, just letting the word out on what I KNOW.
I know and spoke with people that shot him. It's legit and the real deal here's a question how many CBM deer has John Eberheart has entered in? He has entered a lot and ritle me this one video just 1 nope.
Mike I agree with you 💯 and that shed in the white box was not the deer he harvested.I know Mitch he's a great guy he's legit I have a lot pictures of deer he's tagged.
I just bought property one county north in Antrim County. There are definitely big bucks up here now with management. In the 90s and 00s every deer with a horn was taken. Few mature bucks were present. The county record ran off my property and got hit by a car. Scored mid 180s. I doubt mitch was being truthful.
Dan doesn’t like the hunting public because he’s not capable of doing what they do. Old heads always gonna hate. Shout out to John for keeping it real.
LOL I like those guys! My point was it's not indicative of hunting public land in, say, Bayfield County Wis; the U.P. or northern MN. I didn't do a good enough job here of explaining that. All respect to them -- zero jealously. I hunted public land exclusively from 1983 to 1996.
@@DDHONLINE well I appreciate the reply and do understand your point. Thanks for clearing that up. I defend the hunting public because they were the guys that introduced me to mobile hunting. And as a mid-Michigan bow hunter I didn’t know you could have so much fun moving around and getting aggressive. The Old head comment wasn’t necessary. Thanks for the content!
Didn't want the publicity? Ro"m"pala is the one that actually made a public statement about killing the new world record Buck, gave a couple interviews with some Michigan writers, then clammed up when the word was getting around. Quit reciting the ol', "Mitch was a loner and didn't care about the accolades" bullshit. He is a farce, and and in the end, to put an end to the whole thing, the he claimed the bucks mount was burned in a house fire. Mmmmmkay.
Milo has never had his xrayed, no Boone and Crockett buck has ever been x rayed. Three certified scores handles the horn attached to skull cap, there is a picture of them holding it.
I lived in the area when Mitch and this buck story broke. I want to say that Mitch is NOT your average hunter. He hunts deer 365 days a year and is relentless. He also is a loner. Keeps to himself. Now, when this buck was taken, Mitch initially said it was shot adjacent to the Golf Course almost in downtown Traverse City. Funny no one came forward with a sighting of this deer. A deer of this size being seen would have had the city guys perched in any available tree where the deer was sighted. 1/2 of Traverse City residents are hunters/fishermen. Then the (Doctored) poor quality picture showed up. Thus began the suspicions, doubts, investigation and credibility issues. It is my belief Mitch felt this deer would provide him with INCOME and not so much notoriety. He did receive an endorsement for a short time. Then when his previous legal problems were revealed, and also the lawsuit he just wanted it all to be over and totally retreated.
He did harvest near that old golf course that is now shut down, he has also hunted that golf course in the past with permission and harvested very similar bucks genetics wise. My grandpa was his best friend and they grew up together. The state record that Mitch got my grandpa saw it a few days prior.
@@SuggieBear I will have to take your word about the M.M. "never was seen" but if you knew this area of Traverse City: you too would find Mitches accounting of the "initial" location suspect. That is why the story changed......
@@craigrichardson8096 St Louis County is highly populated also. I'm not saying the story is true, I'm saying people shouldn't be so quick to dismiss it.
Imagine being a guy who doesn't like people and doesn't like crowds and having all this harassment and crazyness I would have bailed too, leave me alone I'm going hunting. Mitch never asked for fame or any of that he liked to be alone and to himself!!! I believe him 100%!!

Ya I was less then 5 minutes and and knew I can’t trust this 100% I live in Missouri and it’s definitely not an aired state it’s actually super humid and sheds are rare here we have rodents and they gnaw sheds down quick
I thought the Rompola buck's ears laying down looked weird... It really struck me as odd when I saw the other buck he killed at 5:49 have the exact thing. What's up with that?
Not real sure, I harvested a 130 inch 5 year old in arkansas and after bringing it to camp its ears had started to droop. Haven't noticed it much, maybe only a few deer.
I like how you demonized the lucky hunter for changing his story on how he shot his buck. Isn’t that what you do for a living? Promote your scent wash we all know you don’t use 😂
I would love for these two good old boys club guys to put down on paper individually the scores of all their big bucks that they've shot over the years I guarantee that if they combine them it wouldn't equal to half of what Mitch has shot.
John has 50 record book bucks. 39 from Michigan and 19 out of state. John had tbe Michigan state record until Mitch beat him by like an inch. John is a beast. He's not just hating. And Mitch wasn't just a quite loner. He wrote for magazines, chsirman of the CBM, frequented seminars, entered every trophy he had ever shot into the record books but not this one. Given how altered the deer looks, spread and color, and knowing he could have went down as harvesting the world's biggest typical by just having it authenicated, seems fishy. Dude gave up everything when he started receiving pressure. IMO.
@@chuckmcintosh6945 I can show you 10 deer shot in last 5 years that look just like this deer... so 'altered' is an opinion. This whole video sounds like jealousy.
Not saying it is real or not. Would like to think it is. But why would you not call him out when he showed you the shed? Out of all the different configurations of whitetail antlers having eye guards far apart makes it fake? killing wide deer makes it fake? that deer next to my name is over 25" with 14" g2's from Mississippi public land. Anything is possible in the whitetail world good and bad is all i am saying.
More details from Gordon Whittington that we didn't include in this podcast: www.northamericanwhitetail.com/editorial/trophybucks_naw_aa203rumors/264232
I believe there are deer that have never seen a man, or man have never seen them. Rompala spent his life researching deer, and there habitat. Because he was not a wealthy man who had the connections like some others, such as Hansen, he was questioned on his world record buck. These men took all the years of hard work from Mitch and slandered him because he didn't kiss their ass ! I'd never give these two men the time of day if I shot a new world record buck! Where's their world class bucks? Oh, that's right they've never killed one !
The buck is a fake. Nature makes brow tynes to protect a Deers eyes. look at any tremendous buck, and every single one of them the eye guards will be above the eyes, not 3 inches wider. That’s proof enough for me.
maybe but there is a fact that there are deer that you never see and you have to work above and beyond to hunt him so until you can prove it it's very possible but again it takes hours of work
As a neutral, I would say the rest of the deer rompala has taken speak to his body of work and the one in question, whether real or not, is just a troll of these guys that are obsessed with numbers.
The property he harvested it on is a couple hundred acres in the southern side of TC which is now owned by a rich dude. My grandpa was friends with him and has hunted with him for years. This man hunts 365 days a year studying and researching the deer herd. The property is healthy farm land backed up to swamp/cedars with some hardwoods, plenty of nutrients to grow large bucks of this size. I have his photo book of most of his bucks that he's shot in the area. You can 100 percent tell that some of the deer are related to the big one. The have those really wide racks with tall tines. People say his deer was fake because it had floppy ears in the picture. The last 3 bucks I've gotten have all had floppy ears. I hunt just south of traverse city.
Dan an John John i have known you for years as a CBM measurer as i have been since 1989 i do have more info on the mystery buck if you want to know even more let me know ?
@@jonjones2013 Randy is a good man...and quite knowledgeable about the subject as well as the area. Since parents never taught you simple manners 101, keep you mouth shut and look stupid...don't open it and prove it
So what strikes me. Is the shed of this massive shed he found was " real" which with a spread of 20" like you said. Could be a world record. It Was legit. But weather checked... Stained? Just sounds odd, basically ur saying he altered the rack. Color wise ect. But it's legit. So u think it's not possible that that shed is that big buck few yrs later? If I found a massive shed. I'd definitely hunt that area. I found a current yr shed this season that was weather checked. So don't say it's not possible no one can say it's truly not real. Only Mitch can end the story. Hopefully one day. It's proven
You think it's possible that when they rejoined one side after extending it, they got it tilted and forced them to tilt the other side the same way as to try to make it not so obvious?
Interesting side note. None of Mitch's kills had ever been seen alive. Word travels fast when when there is a giant Buck roaming around. The people most likely to see them, school bus drivers, Sheriff's deputies, or farmers never reported seeing these five Monarch bucks
You're wrong. A man and wife that lived in the area saw the deer. It's been reported that they got a photo that is on the internet. People that saw and handled the deer after Mitch shot it have all reported that the deer is legitimate. Mitch shot 2 bucks before this one that met the B&C minimum, but he never entered them in B&C either. That's the part that so many don't like. There are likely hundreds of animals that have been killed and not entered into B&C. No one has the right to try to force anyone to enter an animal in any record book, yet some tried to do just that.
Not sticking up Mitch but because I live in the area think I need to set the record straight on the area that he supposedly hunted and shot these bucks in there is a large swamp made up of tag alter, Cedar Birch soft Maple black ash pine and a variety of berries And brushes including cat tails the swamp is very wet with some run off creeks . And out side of the swamp was a Golf course. And some old farm with have top soil. Not sand. now is you go farther in land then yes it become blow sand. I also knew some one that was close to him that told me that he would spend all his spare time in that swamp watching these deer regardless of the weather.
I’ve lost all respect for John Eberhart. A guy that holds himself to a high standard should never go on the air to discredit another man’s buck if he doesn’t have firsthand knowledge that the bucks are fake. I’m sure he wouldn’t be happy if someone was doing the same to some of his bucks!!
There are other videos that are more favorable to Rompala , The fellow that wanted the deer x-rayed was the then .holder of the Mich. State record so he didn't want it to be a new record but I have gone from a denier to maybe this guy has been vilified and he has the real thing.
I believe there is more to the story ..but I know for a fact there was a buck killed in Clare county on Cornwell ranch that was 28in wide on the inside ....so it's not to far fetched
lol... eberhart is so jealous. how can he sit there and say there is now way there can be a buck of that magnitude killed in grand traverse county when its vast woods and farm. ive lived in the area a very long time and have seen GIANT! wow.... but yet Eberhart still spend his time hunting michigan. hahahahahaha.
Again. I'll say this a little bit more polite I guess. U can't say this deer isn't real because he wanted the money for it. Or because of a shed he had. I am pure Michigan here my channel is Michigan only. My son shot a deer this year with a 21 3/8 inside spread. ( Track of the deer and recovery is on my channel ) I will say Mitch did a lot of research as I do. All year long. Spent his life studying whitetail as well as I do. Now I've never got a 200 inch buck. I hunt St Clair county mi and the most hunted area of it. We shoot consistently good bucks every season. Can't say they are all huge but they are nice bucks. I myself study deer all year long non stop. But I can't say this deer is fake based on thought and having no proof. U failed to mention he didn't shoot a deer for 6 years and never took 2 bucks a season that's a lot of time for deer to grow and know where they are safe. I truly believe the deer is real. If I took as much heck as he did for the deer I would have let it go too. I would have stopped and not wanted to deal with all the drama. The man was a genius in the deer woods. He didn't go to ranches and try to get money from sponsors and lie and base his life on sponsors at all. He was a doe hard deer hunter. I'm not saying it was real for sure but I'm saying it's very possible. Idc about a shed I care more about how many big bucks he shot based on experience.
I had his buddy Kevin that marketed Hogs Synthetic Scents stay at my house the summer before he shot that mount while he was doing seminars. Kevin showed me those pics of it in the brush. Good solid entertainment. I do own a painting of the buck by some artist. Gotta admit it is a legend one way or the other. 😂🦌👍🏻🇺🇸
I have no idea if it's real or not but most of these conversations I see about this buck seem to be mostly jealous ppl just looking to bash someone who's killed more bigger deer than themselves.
I would love to see some of these guys come hunt black tails with a bow on public land in Northern California it’s still 90 degrees at 6000 ft during archery season. You don’t hold out. My largest kill was 21 inch wide 4 point. Believe it or not that is a beast around there.
If I had shot the world record whitetail, I would have it verified, mounted by the best taxidermist I could find, and stored in a secure location. I don't think I'm unusual in that regard. I think more than 99 out of 100 people would agree.
I bet you would be surprised. I've shot a couple bucks over 200". They are not in the books. The first one I shot, I did enter it, and showed pictures around. It increased pressure on my hunting spot. People would approach the land owner trying to lease it. The neighbors started leasing hunting rights. It isn't worth it.
@@aheroictaxidriver3180 . There are More world record bucks not put in them are put in. Most the records now were not put in until people had already been dead. Genius
I have to say I don't believe that is a Michigan buck by any means. But as someone who bow hunts because it is a way of life not a hobby. I live in Traverse City Michigan and I can say I have seen Monster Bucks! Easily 25"+ wide. Unfortunately I have not had the chance to put one of these monsters on my wall, but I guarantee you these bucks do exist... and they exist in Grand Traverse County!!! I'm sure there are plenty of others that would say the same thing... I have to ask you all this! Why would any of us that live in the area who deal with hobby hunters let any information out about the size of the bucks we are hunting? 🤫
13. Maybe he was just an amazing hunter and just because you don’t believe it doesn’t mean it can’t be done. I’m not saying it is real or fake but your not anyone to say. To me you sound like you don’t like him and deny his kill because you could never even dream of being as good a hunter as him.
From my recollection there is one key element that has been totally overlooked or disregarded. I was young and obsessed as I am today when Mitch shot this deer and regardless of what these guys say I believe this is a legitimate deer and here is why. As I said, I was obsessed with deer hunting as a young kid and couldn’t wait for the next North American Whitetail, D&DH, Outdoor Life, you name it to show up in my mailbox. When this story broke, I couldn’t believe the size of this deer and I followed the story as close as I possibly could at the time. I don’t remember who published it but I definitely remember reading an article in a leading outdoor publication that directly attacked Mitch’s character by pointing to his public criminal record. From what I remember, he had had a few run ins with the law that would make you question his character however I don’t think it was anything too serious but regardless that was the last straw for Mitch. After that article ran Mitch threw in the towel and basically told everyone to F*** off. I also believe the author of that article was fired from the publication and I hope that is true because they should be ashamed of such an attack over a damn deer. I’m still yet to see any concrete evidence that this deer was not legitimate, sure a good taxidermist can build an incredibly realistic “fake antler” but that wouldn’t be something you just whip together and throw on a deer in the field without somebody somewhere knowing you’re up to something. 20+ years have past since this buck made headlines and I’m still yet to see any concrete evidence to the contrary supporting its inauthenticity. I hope Mitch is quietly enjoying looking at his WORLD RECORD buck without the jealous noise that brought upon him.
I don't know you man but you're the best. I've known Mitch personally for years, my grandpa grew up with him and was his best friend, he saw his previous state record buck 3 days before he shot it. I'm so glad to see somebody else on his side that is stating facts
@@bengreen4583 I’m also on the side of it being authentic. I’m from Michigan as well - everyone against it seems so hellbent on it being not real that it comes off as so jealous and there’s no real evidence to say it’s not. As far as I’m concerned, the story was set straight as soon as the first official people examined it right after the harvest and validated it was real. Then after, all of a sudden it’s not?? People just trying to spin their story after smelling blood in the water.
No he's legit, now leave Mitch alone, just jealousy here, his system and techniques are facts, and I heard people say stuff about John, no John's legit too, it's meant to be for some.
Grand Traverse county has amazing soil and loaded with oaks! Eberhardt is and always has been jealous. Eberhardt has said he gets in his stand 3 hours before legal hours. Hmmmm
I can relate to that. They make all kinds of accusations around here. Accuse you of hauling them in from other states in refrigerated trucks and such. Just go about your business and as one once said, never let you left hand know what your right hand is doing.
U mention noel feather. He got caught poaching huge difference don't get me wrong I love Noel feather and grew up watching him and Dan Fitzgerald. And this rompola buck had nothing to do with TV shows and sponsors. So no comparison here with that.
So does this actually work? Asking for a friend
@@bryce8174 I only tried it a couple of times. That was back before trail cameras so I don't know if it worked or not. It never made any difference while I was in the stand.
@@bryce8174 Mock scrapes are easier to make. Put a licking branch over it and play the wind.. Peter Fiducia has some great seminars on here too.
@@bryce8174 -- It works, but mock scrapes work better and are less work.
He really did that' lmao

I do agree with you guys on the hunting public though. 100 inch bucks are great on public land.
You can have both...
Exactly. I know nothing about this story and I m curious. Having trouble finding straight facts!
exactly, macho bravado bs from the good 'ol boys club... sounds more like jealousy.

These swindlers are oddly possessed by antler size. It’s weird. I respect Dan Schmidt who shoots whatever makes him happy.
Maybe men with small penises are obsessed by antler size.
I’m glad they brought up the hunting public at the end. Those guys are awesome no matter the antler size. I’ve learned a lot from this channel as well!
Those kids are phenomenal!!
Yeah he killed them deer in Illinois!

Love listening and watching Mr Schmidt and Mr Eberhart
Hi Joseph - thank you for the kind words. Hope you have a terrific deer season!
Sounds like Ol' Mitch is a very humble fella and one hell of a hunter.
Agreed, have you seen all the giants he shot before this one,?!
That's what you took from the video 😂😂😂? He's a con artist who makes hunters look bad.
Great podcast. I really like to listen to John E. , full of himself for a reason. Don't take that the wrong way. Nice job!
He’s not that full of himself. It comes off that way when he’s tearing into the BS that are the Rompola bucks.
Integrity is all we have as men and outdoorsman... My papa told me this as a child... And I keep learning how right he was the older I get!
Absolutely. Well said.
No doubt.... I think we all know someone like that.
when i was younger and didnt know any better(sarcasm) i used to walk and see a spot that just jumped out at me that said this is a deer spot, based on nothing but looks and feel and it worked great then I started reading and watching shows that told me what i needed to find and my luck has never been as good. When your gut says this is the spot listen to it, regardless of sign or anything else.

I remember watching this all unfold as a kid and seeing it on Fred Trost's Michigan Out of Door's on TV 9&10.

Gary Berger, who scored the Rompola buck just released a statement on the Mitch Rompola fan Club page. Says ''I am one of three that scored Mitch's buck. It is real""
Yeah but this guy cant find any of them 😂
The buck was scored by three competent CBM and P&Y scorers who spent 2.5 hours with it and testified it was real. Dozens of people examined the deer including DNR officers in the days after the buck was harvested.
So why then, turn down an x-ray offer? AND $10,000.?
Well, where the fuck is it then? Lemme guess, it was lost in a house fire....
Plus he was supposed to be real private, but yet he had a website of monster bucks?
I agree 100 percent ! There’s no debate idk y believe believe it’s real !😂 sheep is all I guess!
He wasnt offered $10,000. That $ would be donated to charity. As the years go by, little facts like this get misconstrued and here we are.
Virginia deer also weigh 120 lbs fully dressed
Haters always gonna hate maybe he’s just a superior hunter that could give two fucks about to record in the true spirit of hunting
If you can do it on public land in GA, you are a #$! good hunter!
So if you shot the next WR typical whitetail you would be afraid of Milo.... what a joke....
@@MaineOutdoorsChannel A lot of people are afraid of a lawsuit, regardless of if they are in the right.
Seems pretty fishy to me
Just a perfect example of, guilty until you prove your innocence, prove it people!

Especially with (The Industry)
Even if the man faked it. I believe he learned his lessons long ago. Why we have men talking about poor quality fake rakes, and a (house fire)
Me knowing the house fire is fake news for shock factor is hilarious.

@@jimgallagher4939 Great details sir and someone will benefit from your input. I just have scores to emphasize my point. I don’t care about score. My only goal is to kill the most mature, toughest, rankest sonofabitch in the woods. That’s the game once you reach a certain level.
He just doesn’t want to admit that the rompala hunter is better than him.
Now that is total BS as I don't care.
I wouldn't take anything these guys say for what they did to the Kings buck!! You guys realize there's world record whitetails out there on people's walls that don't care to get them measured!
It's so funny that there's a scent killer add with John on here. That man is crazy when it comes to scent free

@@andrewarbour5733 You bet and thanks for watching!
I believe the Ronpola buck is real. He didn’t want the publicity
I’m with you they never asked anyone else to X-ray there’s Mitch just didn’t want a bunch of idiots hunting his area
The Missouri Monarch was never seen prior to it being found dead, so yes, a big buck can live and die without being seen by a human.
In my county just this year we have had 3 200+ in. Deer non-typicals 2 of them was on public land same area
Hunting Public Land dont get any harder than E.Texas
Imagine being a guy who doesn't like people and doesn't like crowds and having all this harassment and crazyness I would have bailed too, leave me alone I'm going hunting. Mitch never asked for fame or any of that he liked to be alone and to himself!!! I believe him 100%!!
He literally was a top scorer for CBM and if you want to talk money he was convicted felon on fraud so
He was going around claiming it as a record until he was asked to prove it, only then did he decide to stop talking about it,

Do y’all not realize how many farm houses in the Midwest have b&c bucks hanging on the wall that you’ll never see in the books?
220" clean, net typicals? We will drop everything and drive there for whoever has a lead!

You drank the kool-aid 😂
maybe but there is a fact that there are deer that you never see and you have to work above and beyond to hunt him so until you can prove it it's very possible but again it takes hours of work
As a neutral, I would say the rest of the deer rompala has taken speak to his body of work and the one in question, whether real or not, is just a troll of these guys that are obsessed with numbers.
I really wanted this deer to be real. I had not heard about the fire. Had hoped one day the truth would be revealed.
The truth has long been revealed. It's fake. LOL!
The Buck is definitely real. This guy talking is a poacher. Don’t listen to a word he says.
Thats some good crack you are smoking!

Also once one has been shot in an area the place is usually overrun with hunters.
Lol... Tough to see all the bucks when ya have 30,40 even 50 square miles of nothing but woods and swamps
Not sticking up Mitch but because I live in the area think I need to set the record straight on the area that he supposedly hunted and shot these bucks in there is a large swamp made up of tag alter, Cedar Birch soft Maple black ash pine
and a variety of berries And brushes including cat tails the swamp is very wet with some run off creeks . And out side of the swamp was a Golf course. And some old farm with have top soil. Not sand. now is you go farther in land then yes it become blow sand. I also knew some one that was close to him that told me that he would spend all his spare time in that swamp watching these deer regardless of the weather.
My Dad has a dandy 8x8 that’s symmetrical and scored 193. Happy to X-ray for that million!
For a non world record buck? Yea right
This here is why there is deer killed and never recorded in any book .
No, this is what happens when a dishonest crook is called out on his lies.
It took ya this long to lose respect for Eberhart? I don’t think Eberhart likes any other hunters but himself
Trail camera werent really a thing in 98
I previously wanted to believe his buck was real but after listening to this I'm thinking the other way but I do believe he is a good hunter
Both of these guys are envious and full of shit
Idc about a shed I care more about how many big bucks he shot based on experience.
well said!

If you have seen no evidence it's fake then you are deliberately wearing blinders to the truth.
I don't know you man but you're the best. I've known Mitch personally for years, my grandpa grew up with him and was his best friend, he saw his previous state record buck 3 days before he shot it. I'm so glad to see somebody else on his side that is stating facts

I’m from Michigan as well - everyone against it seems so hellbent on it being not real that it comes off as so jealous and there’s no real evidence to say it’s not. People just trying to spin their story after smelling blood in the water.
Your right there were legitimate guys who seen the buck before the mount and they said it was real end of story
The burden of proof is on mitch. You are making a huuuge mistake
