i sit my screened bottom on top of a solid from the beginning , i also use a lot of slatted bottoms now , still i put them over a solid bottom board. u don't have to mess with them come winter

Great video!!! I use a screen bottom board all year but I add a bottom metal slider. Praying for my honeybees to endure this winter Thank you. God Bless.

Cool.... you just answered one of my questions for whether or not to go solid or screened on my Apimaye. I've been screened all summer and fall.

I followed your lead last year with screened bottom boards and no losses.

David do you close off your screned bottom board for OAV treatments? Or jusy up the dosage?

Thank you for the advice regarding screened bottom boards David. I'm happy to adapt your ventilation system as I was concerned about excess humidity over here east of the bottom of Lake Michigan above South Bend. I was considering employing a wood chip absorption container but haven't figured out how yet.

Thx David, Question for you. When it comes to overwintering, how much of the entrance do you keep open to the elements? 3"??? 4"????

I use election signs under my screen bottoms in the winter. The cardboard would draw dampness which isn't good for the colony

Isn't the front entrance enough entrance if you cover the entire screen?

How do the bees get mites, I’m curious? Do you have a video on that?

    • @ME_MeAndMyBees
      @ME_MeAndMyBees 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's via Bee 'Cross Comtamination.'
Aka Bees drifting to other Hives. (Drones can bumble from Hive to Hive blagging Food and Accommodation !) 🤭
Also Beeks, might move Frames from one Colony and add it into a failing 'Hive', that might have a Mite Bomb in it. 👀
And or Beeks buy Second Hand Hive Boxes, or Bee Equipment, and don't do a proper Scorching of Wood Cracks & Creavices.
Or Bleach, Heat Treat items to get rid of VM and associated Viruses.
      🤔
Bees could, drop an odd VM, say on to a Flower,
a Surface, Ground etc. Another Bee passes and the Darn VM crawls onto a new Host and takes it back to its own Hive !
[VM can get onto a Bee and into a Hive in many ways !] 😡
So do preventative Treatment, of different types, and often in the Bee Season. Eg OA Trickle, MAQ Strips, Thymol Trays, Brood Breaks, (Queen Caging,) doing Splits, Vapourising OA, even Sugar Shakes.
You have many ways to beat VM ! 👍(Sure David will have more to say in a Video on the subject of VM and ways of infestation happens.)
Also depends on your Location, Beeks doing, or not doing VM Tests. And what to do when !?!
      🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
      Happy Beekeeping 2022.

An awesome coincidence! I almost bought a solid bottom board a week ago. I have only used solid bottom boards the first couple years I kept bees.
For some odd reason I opted not to purchase it and I’m so glad I didn’t.
Two days ago I opened up the top cover just to look at the inner cover. 3 or 4 small puddles of water. In October “what the heck?”.
So my purchases changed a tad bit.
    Thanks for all the videos.
