    It's sad to see some people dislike the so-soft ponies, I think they're really cute! (Not necessarily when the flocking is yellowed and matted in this ponie's case though lol)

      If the flocking is anything like the flocking used in tabletop miniatures, it's literally just cover the item in glue and dust the flocking on it. It makes a horrific mess even under the best of circumstances.

    I was born in late '83and Shady was one of my first ponies, I think because it was SOFT. I ended up teething on mine so hard that to this day I can still see the teeth marks I left on her. Yes, still have it along with the original handful I had in my childhood, plus the ones I've collected over the years from yard sales and vintage shops. I'm even now in a MLP collecting group with other women my age so I don't feel bad about having those toys when some literally have an entire room in their house dedicated to their collection... lol
    But it is so nice to see an old familiar face on here...
    Funny how that soap was literally the same color as her hair!

    Oooh, I defloated a little pony a month ago, I was looking for a video of you doing it! Mine was newer, so the flocking was on a rubber membrane that covered the pony. I removed it with warm soapy water and a wire brush. However, the pattern on the rump was directly on this membrane, so I had to remove it and redo it (no big deal, I wanted to make a spider web pattern for Halloween).

    No joke I was just about to comment on your last video what you would do if you were restoring a So Soft pony. As in if you would remove the flocking or not. Do you think if you ever got another So Soft with only a few patches missing you’d reflock it?
    Also I’d love to see you restore an old strawberry shortcake doll.

    • @meinhartfrancois
      @meinhartfrancois 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed! Personally, I think those fuzzy ponies are creepy (and mega unhygienic, why would parents give that to their kids... unless it's wild uncles who bought them hahaha), but I'd be very interested to see if it's even possible to restore flocking.
      I was a little stressed when you dropped the gunk back in the water after scraping it off : I worried it would stick to the hair! But you managed beautifully
      Talking about hair : this time you can really see it's an 80's toy, right? Bright pink and neon yellow, wow my eyes hahaha

    • @RetroGeekCrafts
      @RetroGeekCrafts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm really glad I had the chance a few new techniques! I try not to deflock unless the patches are really bad. But the majority of So Soft I've seen were in quite poor condition, and I didn't find them particularly attractive (I need to limit my collecting, so that's convenient! xD). If I really wanted a certain pony, I would buy one with severe damage and deflock, or save for a more mint one. I would sell So Soft in so-so condition for collectors who love them and don't mind small patches 😊 Ah, thanks for the tip! I'd love to do a strawberry shortcake doll!!

    is it possible to clean the flock if you wanted to restore it and keep the flock or would you just deflock it and reflock?

    • @RetroGeekCrafts
      @RetroGeekCrafts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I honestly didn't think of that! I imagine you would end up with less flocking if you do it, and would then need to add extra one, which might look different. I will think about it in the coming days 😁

  • @rattyeely
    @rattyeely 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

    This video is very helpful since I've been in the process of deflocking this exact pony. I used acetone and a exacto knife to kind of "shave" the flocking off, but i think hot water works better and is safer

    Oh I actually have this pony. I liked the So Soft ponies, but I was afraid to play with them much cause I didn't want to damage them. I've never seen what was under the fuzz before. After watching some of your videos, I have a deep need to get out my ponies and clean them up again.

  • @izoraiza7169
    @izoraiza7169 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A fine toothbrush is what I use to brush dirt and hair from other things like pets off my flocking on toys. You have to be very gentle and careful as to not damage the flocking on toys.
    The toothbrush has to be brand new, never used, and only used for this purpose. I store mine in a plastic travel case to protect it.
    If you get hair stuck on the toothbrush bristles you can rinse it with a bit of water and gently rub with your finger to remove it.
    Do not use it on a flocked toy when it is wet. It has to be completely dry before used.

      Haha thank you 😊😊 I'm not familiar with this figure but there are two ways I use to remove nicotine smell: A soak in oxiclean (the one used for cleaning fabrics) for a couple of hours, or a bath in sodium bicarbonate (baking powder). Hope it helps! ☺️☺️
