  • Aerial video of Tower Park in Fort Thomas, KY. I used to take my kids to play at this playground when they were younger. Of course, they had no clue how historic that property was. Fort Thomas is rich in history. During the Civil War, the site of Fort Thomas was on a key invasion route to Cincinnati and was part of the Cincinnati Defense Perimeter which stretched from Bromley and Fort Mitchell to Wilder and John’s Hill. Remains of trenches are still visible on the south slopes of the Highland Country club, the old Beverly Hills Supper Club hill and in the area of the Campbell County Y.M.C.A. Others earthworks can be seen in Evergreen Cemetery which lies on a hilltop that provided visibility of the entire southern Licking Valley. These were parts of a 12-mile long perimeter of 25 installations built to defend the Greater Cincinnati area.

My family lived on the Fort from 1960 to 1965. I look at this and see my old house right across the street from the old ball field we played on, constantly in the summer. It brings back so many memories and lets me know how much I miss my old home. My mom and dad are gone now, they would have loved to see how they transformed the VA Hospital into a community park. I miss my home. Willie Jeffries

This is so pretty! I've never seen the park empty before; Usually crowded with many, many kids! They have enough equipment there to keep children interested, and there are things for various age groups. Definitely worth the trip if you have young children, and it's absolutely gorgeous there in the fall.

There is a large steel tank inside that stretches all the way to the top of the structure.
Fun fact: The military post used an average of 15,500 gallons of water a day, and the steel tank never ran out of water!
