Yep, I just got this board for my new rig with a Thermaltake water cooled cpu. I'm still testing the limits for the overclocking, so far so good. This board rocks!!
Love that you point out all the connectors on the board with highlighting, need to figure out how to do that for myself, it helped me alot trying to see exactly what USB ports were available, I wasn't sure about the ext one so now I can go ahead and use it, Thanks for a great review and help. Great Video...
Love this board Joanne, nice choice. A complete review to this motherboard, I haven't seen any build with this board, looking forward to yours. Thanks Joanne.
Found your channel after looking for reviews of this board. Great channel, up there with BitWit, Paul's Hardware, Hardware Canucks and Jayz in my view queue :)
+Joanne Tech Lover will wait for your build video for Z170 skylake using same mobo !! tons of feature and its utility got me quite confused ! i know you did well explaining each of the feature briefly but would be great if you can explain them a little more when you do build vlog video !!
:O IT'S..... BEAUTIFUL I've got an Asus Sabertooth Z77 currently. Those guys sure know how to make beautiful looking tech. I'm kinda surprised it only has 2 USB 3 ports though, that seems like a step backwards.
I have not had an optical drive in my home PC for years. I have an external Bue-ray DVD/RW drive but even that I hardly ever use for my laptop. Everything now can be downloaded or put on to a flash. That MoB has more bells and, whistles than a one man band convention.
Great job Joanne, very thorough review. I have the Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 1, and I love it, but this thing is pretty freakin' sweet. Thanks for the song... "LIKE!" Latah :-)
fully compact information in a short video Good job. I'm still using msi z97 mini-itx board running i7 4790k and x99 rampage V on i7 5930k i don't think I need an upgrade for now
Looks good. Good video as usual. I remember having a motherboard with pulsating lights to music....in...2005 or something. I think it was a DFI motherboard. Could be wrong about the motherboard manufacturer. But it was a gaming motherboard.
only thing i can say is please slow down a little. I had to re watch several parts of the vid. especially when u transition. other than that great vid. Glad to see you doing your own thing apart from new egg :)
I really love the look of that board. I am wondering though, if all those plastic cover pieces to the left of the socket will interfere with larger air coolers like the Noctua NH-D14. Looks like more and more of these newer boards are geared for water cooling.
I have this motherboard and it's fine, BUT the provided audio drivers are completely bugged out and need a change of drivers that will result in disabling sonic studio (the current version at least as the working drivers don't include it) (bugs concerns microphone input catching output signals and horrible noises because of a bugged amplification driver. in windows 10 for what i experienced but on all system from what i've read in forums while trying to find a solution) The rest is fine for now. A bit overpriced I guess I would think harder before buying the apparently most performing motherboard next time.
What about the ram memory that Avexir has released? The Impact ROG Series? Do they worth it? I mean, they are supposed to be specifically made for this kind of mobo...
I'm unsure how I feel about the cyborg look. That said, I'd probably still buy it. Won't be in the market for a couple more months and I'm stuck with LGA1155 for now so I can port my stuff over to it rather than rebuying everything (that'll be another two years from now).
+Joanne Tech Lover Sorry, I meant that 'I' won't be in the market to buy one until black friday. You're totally right that the product is out... sorry for the confusion.
Love ya Lil'J. Fandamntabulous mobo review. I hope my old Asus P8P67 Deluxe lasts me a few more years. Next time I think Ill go back to Gigabyte though.
You mention to use the slower SATA connection for slower devices, my question is what classes as a slower device? I have a Seagate Barracuda 2TB harddrive - will that need to go in the slower SATA ports or one of the four 6gb p/s ones?
Hey Joanne, am little confused over the mobo 6700k, 1070, 850 m.2 nvme build. Asus Viii Ranger or hero or gigabyte gaming 5 or 7. Please help me choose!
Actually, Hero and ranger have same functions, exept 2 additional SATA ports installed at hero. Some say that hero has a little better oc potential, but i suppose it will make sense only in extream oc with liquid cooling. Don't know much about gigabyte, but i think there is the same situation. So may be it will nice to buy cheaper motherboard, if you are not going to make the hell of an overclocking and you won't cry because of 2 SATA ports. But hero is looking better imho.
Thanks mate! I bought hero alpha, didn't wana spend addition money on WiFi AC. Though usb ports at the back io is way way less compared to Ranger or Hero.
really been enjoying your videos from the day i subed im in the process of building a pc but i think im getting this board instead of the gigabit board i already chosen
oh my lord, what an amazing board you got there! I can't wait for your review of the build, especially the audio side of it! Soooooo many bells and whistles, the audio part of it has me intrigued :D
"here is a cardboard with stuff sticking out of it. Here is a port and some buttons" yes I got no idea about this, but hey it's Joanne.. Cannot dislike this :) And after a nap and waking up to this, great!
Pls make an in boxing and review for asus rog g751 with 24 gb ram … I'm looking for a solid gaming laptop with the same performance as a pc … so pls do it …
lol yeah I'm rockin out with the same motherboard but the 4690k. I just sent my cpu back to intel, damn thing reached 115 degrees on the stock cooler and I live in a pretty cold area. Now I'm trying to decide what to buy next for my rig; an extra 8gb of ram, some LED lights or some upgraded fans. What do you think?
If you stream or make videoes i would buy the i7-4790k, + the speed is just.. Insane man! I have the BeQuiet! dark rock TF (Topflow), because I didn't like the looks of the dark rock 3 or dark rock 3 pro. It cools the cpu better than the dark rock 3, it's smaller and looks alot better. That's a win win in my book. :P
I'm the creative content type and I was wondering if ram mhz matter for 3D Rendering, Photoshop(mass layers), Zbrush, Maya? I just bought the i7 6700K/Asus Maximus VIII Hero and I want to buy a 32 gb 2800-3200 mhz quad kit. Would it be somewhat beneficial to have 4x8 ram in a dual channel mobo?
All these years later I needed to check something about this motherboard and this review was just what I needed ..thank you Jo.
Joanne's singing is lovely! 10/10
***** Thank you!
Holy shit this has to be the most thorough mobo review i've ever seen! Nice job!
I like how you focused on the DAC first. Sound is life
I am a big fan of your reviews. They are always so complete and I often find them clearer than even the manufacturer website. Keep it up!
+Patrick Larson Thank you!
I do my best!
If I don't understand something, I research or ask questions 'til I get answers haha.
I'm OCD that way.
Amazing presentation of the motherboard, I don't think I even blinked once as not to miss anything! :D
+gamerx9191 I was thinking Iwas the only one lol
I had to watch this video twice to see all it features. Great board and great Job Joanne!!!!
+Bowhunterwt Thank you!
I'm glad you viewed it twice, which means it's not boring lol.
This is the most thorough overview I've ever seen of a motherboard. I like it though! :D keep up the videos
+Wyatt Skrobarczyk I try!
Damn, the editing takes forever though, the more in-depth it gets!
Yep, I just got this board for my new rig with a Thermaltake water cooled cpu. I'm still testing the limits for the overclocking, so far so good. This board rocks!!
this board is still running stong for me
Same!
Such a concise review to get all this under 10 minutes - great stuff!
Love that you point out all the connectors on the board with highlighting, need to figure out how to do that for myself, it helped me alot trying to see exactly what USB ports were available, I wasn't sure about the ext one so now I can go ahead and use it, Thanks for a great review and help. Great Video...
Nice review and add my grats for the first of "reviewers" to provide this information before others. Greetings from Mexico :)
+SandmanGodslayer Thanks!
There are other videos on the VIII Hero :)
if you gonna be singing such a romantic song then Ima have to put my processor in your socket 😈 😅
lmfao
+Sonu03785 Incompatible! ;-)

Love this board Joanne, nice choice. A complete review to this motherboard, I haven't seen any build with this board, looking forward to yours. Thanks Joanne.
+Bruno Amaro Glad you do!
Build video should upload Friday :)
Found your channel after looking for reviews of this board. Great channel, up there with BitWit, Paul's Hardware, Hardware Canucks and Jayz in my view queue :)
Very detailed overview, thanks for the video. I am planning to upgrade to Skylake soon and this mobo is shortlisted !!
+PROHDGaming Thank you!
Have fun building :D!
+Joanne Tech Lover will wait for your build video for Z170 skylake using same mobo !! tons of feature and its utility got me quite confused ! i know you did well explaining each of the feature briefly but would be great if you can explain them a little more when you do build vlog video !!
Excellent in depth review she covered many things all the other male reviewers left out..Instant sub!
:O IT'S..... BEAUTIFUL
I've got an Asus Sabertooth Z77 currently. Those guys sure know how to make beautiful looking tech.
I'm kinda surprised it only has 2 USB 3 ports though, that seems like a step backwards.
Your videos are so clear, thanks for the review!
Wow. Seems like you put a lot of work into this. Thanks.
Sub'd. I love your fast, no-nonsense rundown of the MB's features.
Really excellent presentation, slow down slightly, and maybe blink the the red boxes you are indicating so my old eyes can keep up. Thank you
I have not had an optical drive in my home PC for years. I have an external Bue-ray DVD/RW drive but even that I hardly ever use for my laptop.
Everything now can be downloaded or put on to a flash.
That MoB has more bells and, whistles than a one man band convention.
+Wash_Your_Fruits My last build had an ODD drive, lol.
I almost never use it...but just in case, lol.
It certainly has a ton of features!
another fine review Joanne!
I'm waiting for another build from you :)
+Jammin GI James Thank you!
Build video should release Friday :D
Joanne Tech Lover awesome!
I'll be on the lookout :)
Thank you very much. A VERY in depth and useful tour.

I'm glad you like your purchase :D
fully compact information in a short video Good job.

+xcrawl Thank you!
I do my best :D
I need to do a mini build one day!
Good vid. u actually provided product info. so many others reviewers vlog way too much
If my name was Dimitri, I'd give this video review a DAM GOOD award...
But your name is lucas
+Lo Studios Exactly...
Lucas Féres xD
Looks good. Good video as usual.
I remember having a motherboard with pulsating lights to music....in...2005 or something. I think it was a DFI motherboard. Could be wrong about the motherboard manufacturer. But it was a gaming motherboard.
+Trusteft Nice!
Everything is so flashy these days lol.
Wow this is an excellent overview, thank you so much.
+Marco Ss Thank you!
I'm glad you like it :)
That was a very nice and informative review, well done jo...
+ray mond Thank you!
I'm super satisfied with this review you just helped me buy my new mobo thanks alot I'll be gaming like a pro in no time 👌🥵😎
Hi joanne, which one would you recommend. the ROG Maximus 8 Hero or the MSI gaming m7? thanks!
only thing i can say is please slow down a little. I had to re watch several parts of the vid. especially when u transition. other than that great vid. Glad to see you doing your own thing apart from new egg :)
Nicely done. I think I want the door hanger so I can pretend I don't live alone.
That mobo is overkill as hell.
+adobo777 It's sexy.
I really love the look of that board. I am wondering though, if all those plastic cover pieces to the left of the socket will interfere with larger air coolers like the Noctua NH-D14. Looks like more and more of these newer boards are geared for water cooling.
+Joe Ebner Me too!
I think the ROG cover can be removed!
Joanne, What is the Philips screwdriver do you use here? I've been looking for something similar.
Your singing gave me goosebumps
+born 2 biscuit Lol hope it's a good thing!
Joanne Tech Lover Yes it is
Well we know she's not single. Thanks for the video Joanne!
+ZoMbIEx23x No problem!
there are so many bad review about this motherboard especially on newegg
as a user, how do you rate it
Thanks for the video.
So no more Bluetooth/WIFI antenna anymore?
I have this motherboard and it's fine,
BUT the provided audio drivers are completely bugged out and need a change of drivers that will result in disabling sonic studio (the current version at least as the working drivers don't include it)
(bugs concerns microphone input catching output signals and horrible noises because of a bugged amplification driver. in windows 10 for what i experienced but on all system from what i've read in forums while trying to find a solution)
The rest is fine for now.
A bit overpriced I guess I would think harder before buying the apparently most performing motherboard next time.
Did you have any problems hard wiring to the Internet
What about the ram memory that Avexir has released? The Impact ROG Series? Do they worth it? I mean, they are supposed to be specifically made for this kind of mobo...
should i take the maximus hero or the z170 a/deluxe? The z170-deluxe seems overkill, but the z170-a doesnt look too bad with this mainboard..
Your review are awesome that's why I want a review badly
I'm unsure how I feel about the cyborg look. That said, I'd probably still buy it. Won't be in the market for a couple more months and I'm stuck with LGA1155 for now so I can port my stuff over to it rather than rebuying everything (that'll be another two years from now).
+Jeremy Madsen Really? I thought this was already out!
+Daehawk Thank you!
I like to change it up each build!
Thanks! I think I'll go with Msi M7
I'm considering the Msi m7, or this board. Did you get yours, or any input?
I am also wondering which one to chose :S
Why does is have a jumper to "fix the cold boot bug"?
Does it maybe reset the CMOS config to defaults? Reset to the factory BIOS?
Can't wait for that skylake build tho
+Karimy Should upload Friday :D Working my butt off this month to get all the videos done *whew*
Now thats dedication, keep up the good work :)
Makes me blush to say I have this board on my PC :3
Wait.. (Sorry if I made a dumb mistake) but wasn't this just released at CES?
Hello. Whats a good motherboard choice for a game/workstation rig?
+Isiah F th-cam.com/play/PLa5pA5ju2FcM_XJIx7G5xeNo4GNEhsHKZ.html
+Joanne Tech Lover Thank you, I shall watch them! Keep up the great vids :p
+Joanne Tech Lover Great overview! And you are always my Hero! ;)
+Isiah F She gave a good overview, but i would say, depends on how you are ready to invest on game/workstation rig :)
You mention to use the slower SATA connection for slower devices, my question is what classes as a slower device? I have a Seagate Barracuda 2TB harddrive - will that need to go in the slower SATA ports or one of the four 6gb p/s ones?
How did you get the list of compatible usb keyboards for Keybot II? I was really interested and found nothing after googling for a while
how can i control the lightning i dont know how to open the application for the light control
I only saw the K70 on the Keybot II compatible keyboards, does it mean both K70 and and K70 RGB are supported or just the regular K70?
How accurate are the voltage readings provided by BIOS on this MB? I hear Asus motherboards are known to over-volt the CPUs.
Joanne!!! She's from NewEgg!
+Tommy Miller Newegg*
Right. That's what I meant..
i m just falling in lov with u .....getting these soon.
Looking at the expansion ports, it looks like they expect some huge 3 slot video card to take up that first PCI-E lane....AMD card perhaps?
+warfjm Wait and see on the build video!
Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero Motherboard or MSI Z170A Gaming M7?
what MOB is better: the asus ROG maximus VIII hero or the asus z170 deluxe. please help me out.

Great, then hopefully you'll find my upcoming Skylake build video helpful!
oh my lord, what an amazing board you got there! I can't wait for your review of the build, especially the audio side of it! Soooooo many bells and whistles, the audio part of it has me intrigued :D
+Haysleyez I think so!
th-cam.com/video/bzJoF4aGYws/w-d-xo.html
She said it, She my Hero now!
+Tonixz Mac Lol.
Should I get this, or the Asus z170 deluxe?
"here is a cardboard with stuff sticking out of it. Here is a port and some buttons" yes I got no idea about this, but hey it's Joanne.. Cannot dislike this :) And after a nap and waking up to this, great!
+SavageLight Lol, I try to be detailed!
so what is better to use on a 1080 with an i7 6700k, maximus hero viii or maximus hero viii alpha?
very nice video, but should the Q_LED white, red and orange all ligh up after each other for like 2 sec when the pc boots up? is that normal?
Great overview, beautiful!
She even matches the outfit color with the product. Nice strategy :) ;)
+Flavio Hilario Not all the time, but sometimes!
How can I install the h1ooi gtx? Will I need an adapter or can I plug the 3pin into the 4pin header?
Brilliant review. Thanks for going in so deep; highlighting port locations and explaining the use of some of the more propriety items :)
Well done!
How do you update drivers for this. I've updated bios but can't get aura. Needs other updates
If only I could afford this...
you could now maybe its only 149
Was wondering what highest video card can i install on this motherboard
any idea when will asus release a maximus 8 formula or extreme for the skylake processors?
rtcivic Not sure, sorry!
What is the speed of the slower Asmedia Sata ports?
i was going to get this board but i heard people had problems with the RAM and had booting issues? thinking of going with the Z170 Pro Gaming instead
***** what board would you recommend with a intel i7 and a gtx 1070?
Pls make an in boxing and review for asus rog g751 with 24 gb ram … I'm looking for a solid gaming laptop with the same performance as a pc … so pls do it …
if m.2 SSD is installed keep in mind sata port 1-2 is disabled.
which one should i buy ASUS MAXIMUS VIII HERO or MSI GAMING M7 ?
+Bilgin Kaya ASUS
HiTmanTurBo why? reason?
veryyy thorough. thank you!
Will this board work with a 7th gen intel i7 7700k?
Jorique Iglesechaing.............Love your "No Fear" overviews.............
Oh, and ....an awesome Board......
+Chris Trak What's there to be fearful of? ;p
+Joanne Tech Lover ...........not fearful of..........no fear singing rendition..........throw caution to the wind.........
+Chris Trak .....bad attempt at humor..........
+Chris Trak Oh lol, I figure life is short, so I'll do what I want haha.
does this motherboard have internal processor(s)
Any real benefits of a Z170 board for gaming over a Z97 board, despite the obvious CPU benefit.
+Ryan Frechette DDR4 ram, i guess? I'm just sticking with my ASUS MAXIMUS VII HERO and my i7-4790k. :)
lol yeah I'm rockin out with the same motherboard but the 4690k. I just sent my cpu back to intel, damn thing reached 115 degrees on the stock cooler and I live in a pretty cold area. Now I'm trying to decide what to buy next for my rig; an extra 8gb of ram, some LED lights or some upgraded fans. What do you think?
+Ryan Frechette stay with that
there's only like 2-4 more fps difference
KM L You will get no benefits. It's limited to dual channel.
nice review! bought :)
damit lol. I try to build one and so confuse what to get if MSI or ASUS my budget is around $800.
+Kusunoky Go with this MOBO.
