I was just going to ask. I have a bone stock 2015 Trail model, and other than being nearly due to replace the OEM tires, I’m wondering if I really *need* to do more than maybe a roof rack and some upgraded skid plates! I’m an old fart, and I’m not going to go run flat out across the desert or anything. I just want to do a little exploring and camping.
You don’t really. If you’re a careful off-roader with some experience, we’ll-suited tires would take you through most of the places I’ve been over the years.
Awesome video Jason. I need to step up my Ram game. 👍 I signed up his March class, should hit that the week after I do Death Valley. Hoping to take what I learn and get better shots and content for PWIM this year. Keep the good content rolling.
Very nice setup! We have a 2018 Ram 3500 with the AEV lift on 37 with an ARE aluminum double doors in back with a decked, fridge and some aluboxes. It is amazing how well it functions, especially the mileage, even carrying my motorbike on the back on the hitch. Don't even feel it! AEV stands behind their product as well, they're super friendly and great to ask questions.
Jason, you're actually much better at camera work than you give yourself credit for. My whole family enjoys your videos so much, trumps most favorite tv shows actually...thanks
The more I watch people overlanding, the more I realize you don’t need big ass tires and all the fancy stuff people show off. It is true a better driver can do a lot with a stock 4wd with good ground clearance than a tricked out monster truck with an inexperienced driver.
Thank you! 100k rigs to go on maintained trails and camping parks seems a little excessive to say the least, but they have to keep making new content, plus, buying and installing parts is fun
The best deal going right now is the fj cruiser. Shorter wheel base, plenty of stock clearance to get you to most spots. Stock rear locker. 15k easily.
Instead on spending 90k to about 110k on the prospector, I would of just put a D4-D V8 diesel swap in you 4runner man, more torque and hella better MPG as well, that's what I did to my taco!!! I get around 36 city/ 42 hwy!!
Its does sound like a lot but it honestly was quite easy. Everything lined up perfectly, no cutting or chopping. I just cant pull the trigger on a 100,000$ truck when mine is all paid off. I probably should get a bigger truck since I do have 4 kids and a Tacoma is so small. I do like your truck tho man and your vidoes!! 😁👍👊
as for all the electronics and stuff. idk. but i have the same model year laramie with the cummins and i have put 220k on it so far and other than maintenance i have had zero issues. the cummins engines will go forever to be honest. its the stuff around it that even i after 220k still question.
@@drewbutts7461 I wish the US were more reliable. Would love to get back into a Ford and maybe even try a Dodge. I've had a Tacoma and older Tundra I also had a Raptor that I liked. No problems and I beat on them. I now have a 2020 Tundra. Wish it had more off road gizmos, but will put in a rear locker in the future to help.
Jason - do you recall the wheel specs on that setup? I think you've changed wheel/tire combo since this was shot, but I'm trying to figure out if these were 20x10 or 20x12, and what backspacing/offset. Also, I believe you were running 15.50" width tires, right?
Thank you for your time and content. Ive got a 2020 ram 2500 that I’ll commit to the AEV package soon. I carry a four wheel camper “Hawk” on the back. Question for ya? Am I not crazy to think that the money I’m going to put into the rig is going to almost pay for itself If I ever wanted to sell it:)
🤔 2 3/4 Prospector XLs😜. Another great vid. Couldn’t imagine spending that much in fuel. I’d definitely bring some extra fuel. I paid $2.51/gal for diesel last week in Nevada.
I just noticed that you have the expedition one roof rack with a moon roof, and I’m wondering how it performs??? Does the moon roof open, is the weight rating on the roof rack decreased, do you feel comfortable loading the roof rack???
Dude I want one of these trucks so badly I love my tundra but I dream of being able to afford one of these trucks . I also wish someone held one of these type of classes near me I really love photography but I'm really new to it and just started using manual mode haha. Keep up the amazing content and good work Jason, I love your stuff man
These are rich people playing. Except if there is someone in the group who wants to just keep up with the Jones and suffering making monthly payments. But hey, one life to live. Enjoy it! When you die, you can never take a car with you, so take a loan and enjoy something. People who die debt free do not get a free pass to heaven than people who die with tons of loans and bankruptcy. So, go out and enjoy your life in any way you can. Try to be responsible but do not be scared of debts. Enjoy live as responsibly as you can.
I was thinking the same thing. Its bitter sweet seeing Rams on the trail. Bitter because I'm no longer the only one. Sweet because I'm still the biggest. Lol. Possibly the only 2018 Ram 3500 lifted crew cab long box diesel on the trail. Dirt surf your life away!
Diesel is $2.25/gal in Ohio.Regular has been right at $2.00/gal. Your rig is tempting me to get a RAM 2500 Power Wagon. They are the same price as a Jeep Gladiator, and way more room. Don't understand though why the RAM 6.4 diesel doesn't get better gas mileage. 13 MPG?? According to their website.
The 6.4 in the power wagon is a gas motor hemi that's why the fuel economy is so low. Heavy truck. The 6.7l Cummins gets better fuel economy but doesn't get offered in a power wagon. The new 2500 rebel will have the 6.4 hemi and the 6.7 Cummins for 2023
He got it to belong in the group that he is with now. So, I am sure he likes that fact that they all have the same truck. That is why they make plans only to go together on trips where every truck is the same. Though some people with other rigs try to tag on.
Not gonna lie. Miss the 4runneer. Not because it’s a 4Runner. But because it was a vehicle that started from nothing and became something. The Prospector is bought decked out. The experimentation of what works best is the fun part for me. Also I’m a Ford guy so..... I can’t stand a Dodge. 😂😂
Jason Koertge I completely understand your reasoning. I have to live through others currently. Business and family have left me no time but to watch others.
With all due respect if your rig was not built by AEV it’s not a Prospector. While your playing make believe might as well add Brute XL to this title. No hate, just brutal honesty and respect for the lane D.H carved out.
You’re not wrong but not completely right. While not a serial numbered PXL (I’m clear about that in the initial walk around), it has all the functional components which are genuine AEV products of a PXL. We’re talking semantics, but frankly, calling it a PXL is mostly out of convenience. I know what it is, you know what it is, those that care know what it is. And AEV still benefits whether they sell individual parts or parts attached to a serial numbered vehicle. Side note, the gladiator doesn’t have AEV products on it.
I'm loving watching you videos with the Prospector XL!!! I just bought a stock 2012 Ram 2500 Laramie and I can't wait to see what it can do and what mods I have added! Thank you for the inspiration!
I am subscribed, but haven't seen you lately. The last time I saw you, you were thinking about changing your vehicle and you did. Sounds like you like it. Do the kids still travel with you?
I don’t understand this “workshop”. Did he really plan on teaching a class in front of 2 people or did a large group of people he was expecting not show up? Very bizarre.
@@SuperAwesomeJared his video been like this for since he got it I guess. I remembered watching his TN video it was way better. i don't care under or over exposed just will be nice to watch video when no need to adjust brightness in computer .

Gary Altman sure did! We had to walk him through some places, but they are very capable!
