      Sauerkraut is an amazing ferment. So versatile. Our favourite way to serve is to mix it with some raw cabbage, grated apple, spring onions ,Sauerkraut and its juice then add mayo until its like the most delicious, probiotic coleslaw ever. Yummy. That painting though🤩🤩its gorgeous and huge and I love it! 💜💜

    Growing up our little community had a ladies home demonstration club and a community club house. It was a small white building with a plain kitchen. The ladies would teach us younger girls how to can your food. Quilting. Arts and crafts. They met once a month. Such a wonderful memory ❤️

    I grew up on a small farm, canning with my mother in the summer. I always said that summer was not a vacation for country children. However I have lived my adult life in cities ...houses with smaller yards and I must admit I am more Indoorsy than outdoorsy. I enjoy reading, counted cross stitch and decorating my home. We moved to a smaller retirement home last year and I do need to do some outdoor landscaping so I would be interested in learning more about flower gardening. So far Hostas and Lantana and impatiens are the only things I can keep going. lol

    Another fabulous video!!! 😘🤗. I'm LOVING your Cow Picture!! What a deal!! I LOVE Thrifting & Antiquing!! What a wonderful gift to find bookcases! So awesome to have your own Library ☺️. Things I'm learning right now....I'm teaching myself to start Sketching again. I used to do it in Highschool, but had not picked it back up till recently. I can't believe I even let this Gift slide for so long!! The other thing, I'm teaching myself is about Birds. I picked up a Bird Book the other day at the Thrift Store. I'm hoping this Spring that Hubby and I can find some spots to do some Bird Watching. I'm trying to do things that relieve stress for me and live more intentional. Nice score on the cow picture.🙂 sorry about the kilner jar cracking.🙁 They’re my favorite jars to use. I’m glad you saved the top, but I was hoping you would have removed the wire around the neck.😀 The replacement does come in handy. I was fortunate to pick up over the years the Italian French jars at the thrift stores. Last year was a major score when Wegmans sold the Kilner jars and gaskets.😀

    I love tea or coffee time and books! I especially love to sit and read, glance through the recipes of cookbooks especially old ones.
    I love sauerkraut and I used to help my granny make it in her big old butter churn.
    I miss my many cookbooks and novels especially. We also had some landscaping and gardening books and magazines. Seven years ago I passed them on to my daughter when I had to enter a nursing facility at 54 because of Multiple Sclerosis.

    Ok LOVE the cow picture! You are the winner with that one. I have been homesteading on our 40 acres for 28 years. We raised all kinds of things including our 2 daughters who know have their own homesteads. I am taking up beekeeping this year. Our honey guy retired so we need the bees to do their thing - I am excited to try it on my own. That’s another tip with homesteading he needed more acreage for bees we let him keep some hives here - win win and honey too. Network

    Just an idea....I had bookcases like yours and small kids visiting my home...they reached for a colorful book above their heads, tiptoed up onto a shelf to reach it....and toppled everybook and wood case onto them! Luckily, only scrapes and bruises...no broken bones! So...since you too have little adorable children, exploring everywhere...you might want your hubby to secure bookcases to the wall. He might even consider adding plywood to the back of bookcases for added strength and stability.

    Great video! I absolutely love old cookbooks too!
    I’ve been a sourdough baker for years now. I started with Rita Davenport’s book, “Sourdough Cookery”. But I have been using Emilia Raffa’s book, “Artisan Sourdough Made Simple”. I Love the recipes in Rita’s book, and still use them; but, I like a true starter without yeast… So I just use my new starter with the old favorite recipes.
    I’ve never added carrots to my sauerkraut. I’m going to try that! Thank you!

      @ForgottenWayFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes 🙌 I’m going to write up a blog post. I was showing it as a skill and not so much a tutorial. But I can deliberate more on a blog post ❤️ I leave my sauerkraut in the jar to ferment 10 to 14 days in a warm room like my kitchen counter or by my fireplace. Burb it daily, and taste it around 10 days to see if it’s tangy enough and then I put it in the fridge. It can keep a long time there. I’ve had some for over six months, but usually it gets eaten up fast 😊 I will link a blog post when I get it done.

    Hi Abbey, I have a question about when you and Daniel and your family had milk goats, did your whole family enjoy the milk? Also will you ever have milking goats again? What products did you make with the milk. I ask these questions as some of our older goats we no longer feel it right to breed and just want to live out their life here on our small farm. Lastly, have you ever had nubian goats? There up their with the level of butter fat and I just wonder if they might be easier to milk than our ND's? I was the Milker u til I had a few surgeries that set me back a bit, but am reading g to get back into the swing of thigs. Regarding my comments I leave on your channel. They are all from my heart. When I watch your channel it takes me back in time of wonderful memories. When I watch your channel I see and feel the importance of connecting with family like you do with yours. I had it, but with our generation we have lost this gift that keeps and holds families together. We are a throw away society and it is definately showing in our world today. I read an article the other day that stated that "when someone has to work at something it becomes more important to that person. They have vested their time and learning and creating this item. Whereas if someone purchases that item they are less vested and it can be thrown away without much regard. Which got me to thinking how learning new skills like our ancestors did out of complete necessity, where would we be? I believe that all the skills we can learn and teach to our children as you have done will empower them for any future horrific events they will have to endure. I'm rambling and I'm sorry. Bottom line your channel is so very needed and so very interesting. I am blessed to have found your channel.

    I would like to learn different handmade stitches styles, how to read and layout patterns for sewing simple dresses, night gowns, tops and midi-skirts on a sewing machine. Another idea of classes would be learning crochet for afghans, learning embroidery stitches for monograms and samplers. Would also think of recipe for SIMPLE gluten-free breads and rolls made from scratch. People with celiac, like me, will probably not be able to buy it in stores, if Depression or war starts, or even if shipments are delayed or stopped due to high fuel costs. There is only 2 small shops that I can find a half loaf size of gluten-free bread at...it cost almost nine dollars for that half loaf!
