I watched him once throw 3 balls in a bunker and then got his 1 iron out, he stiffed the first two then holed the 3rd shot at Woburn and will never forget it. Love you Seve, Genius is not enough to complement his short game.
Such a talent...such feel....such technique...so humble and gracious though....gone way too soon. He really was the best. Rest in peace Seve...you made so many people happy while you were here!!!!
The fantastic thing about Seve was that he had all the confidence is the world that he could pull these shots out of thin air. On his day he was the most magical player to watch! What a character.😊.
The creativity to even think of this...a true savant of tje game...you gotta be kidding me??? A 3 iron out of the bunker...what the act F....the word talent doesn't do it justice
worked it out-he makes a little indentation in the green with the ball-just enough that when he hits it it bounces up-genius. I wanted to believe it was just Seve magic!
Seve learned how to play with an old 3-iron head on a stick for a shaft. No wonder he had such amazing hands. Some of those shots are doable though. If you're good with the flop shot, you can learn to play it with a 3 iron. Seve would have loved watching Bubba win the Masters.
All that matters in ball striking is that the club mass momentum vector and the club face align with the desired target line not at impact but a the exact moment the ball decompresses and releases off the face. The “secret”, to the extent there is one, is learning how to stop the club face just as it squares to target which due to the laws of motion in physics allows the golfer to precisely control WHEN the compressed ball to flies off the face. Trick shot artist Harry M. Frankenberg realized that cause and effect back in the 1930 and created an unorthodox swing style around it. Ben Hogan and Moe Norman also incorporated the same cause and effect in their quite different and also unconventional swing styles which explains their reputations for hitting straight shots. After first hearing the stories about Sevi his 3 iron a dozen years ago I challenged myself to learn how to hit shots out of bunkers and play an entire round tee-to-hole with just a 3 iron like he did as a kid. I learned in the process that the face angle of a club can be changed from nominal if the other variables of stance and swing are changed to deliver face (or wave of sand in bunker) square to target when the ball releases. Had I not heard the stories about would have never occurred to me to try it so I am forever in his debt.
On the very hole that Seve was criticized for the way he played it ( the16th at Lythm '79 ) Ernie Els (2012) hit the same shot that Seve was most famous for ( the18th at Birkdale '76)
Seve the 🏌️♀️ golfing genius I was able to see in 1979 with my friend Bob Haynes as he duelled with another amazing player Lee Trevino What memories of Lytham that we played several times after that epic Open Championship
its shots like these which puts him in a class few ever got remotely close to Woods could never have done what Seve did with that bloody three iron as well as Trevino inventive as he was Hogan probably would have shrugged and said my job is to stay out of bunkers Nelson would have just laughed and said, thats when I use my sand wedge Seve would have answered them all by all: I did it my way

@Tourswing It's amazing isn't it. Don't know how he did it
holy crap
theyre weighted golf balls, watch at 00;49 when he rolls the ball over getting ready to hit it...still cant work out how it jumps though lol
Chipper
Of course he learned to play golf using one club.
Fuck. The stuff this guy could do
Seve the 🏌️♀️ golfing genius I was able to see in 1979 with my friend Bob Haynes as he duelled with another amazing player Lee Trevino What memories of Lytham that we played several times after that epic Open Championship
He was Phil before Phil.
how the hell could you compair seve with rickie seve is a legend and rickie needs a hair cut
Who made that comparison
the one with the putter over the head is actually not that difficult... just give it a try!
its golf jim,but not as we know it
@Sevefan I've figured out how he does it! Want to know?!
its shots like these which puts him in a class few ever got remotely close to
Woods could never have done what Seve did with that bloody three iron

I presume hes made a plug mark so it pops the ball up :)
the only way to learn how to swing is to chip with a 3 iron.
