There's just as much celebratory gun fire now as there was 40 years ago. Drives me nuts every new years, Christmas & 4th of July. My neighbors drive me crazy with it. Rural. Perfectly legal to shoot your guns. Sheriff's won't do anything about it.

It might be a stretch, but not impossible. If the bullet is fired perfectly straight up, losses all it’s energy, then tumbles back, it will fall at 53m/sec. If fired at an arc, and the bullet does not tumble it can retain some of its energy. 53m/sec is about 118mph, 300ft/sec is 204mph. Again, a stretch, but not impossible.

@@user-mw8to4ng9i No, he was correct. 55m/s is terminal velocity. It is physically impossible for a falling object to fall (clue word) faster than gravity unless a force is acting upon it. The second that force stops, it would slow back down to 55m/s (180 ft/sec).

Why do people shoot in the air? if you're going to shoot your gun off, setting up a backstop isn't hard and you can shoot it off safely. always be aware of your target and what lies beyond it. you can even shoot it into the dirt and grass if you're up on an elevated deck and have the room, then at least you know where your rounds are stopping. in the air is stupid.
@@kevinsedwards you're wrong, it doesn't fall at the same speed it leaves the muzzle but it doesn't have to. people have been hurt and killed by falling rounds that were fired in the air so many times. the terminal velocity of a bullet is high enough to kill you, they are aerodynamic by design. not sure where you got that very wrong information from. they can also do property damage and go through people's roofs, in fact a building in my state located near a public patch of woods where people shoot would have holes shot through it's metal roof every single year by people shooting in the air. you have no idea what you're talking about, if you think a bullet's terminal velocity isn't enough to kill someone then go learn some physics. they are aerodynamic and dense and therefore fall very fast.
@@kevinsedwards wow you really don't understand physics, yes it slows down as it goes up, then it starts to fall. gravity will then accelerate it at a rate of 9.8 meters per second per second, meaning after one second it's going 9.8 m/s, after 3 seconds it's going 29.4 m/s, etc and will keep accelerating at that rate until it either hits something and stops or reaches terminal velocity. terminal velocity of a bullet can be around 600fps depending on the bullet, which is more than enough to kill you. that's like a 45 ACP at 100 yards. terminal velocity is different for each object and depends on it's aerodynamics, weight, and the drag from the air which can be slightly different due to temperature (cold air is more dense and gives more drag, warm air is less dense and gives less drag.) whatever you think you understand about physics is clearly all wrong. not to mention you said shooting straight up does no harm, that's also wrong because if you shoot straight up it will not fall down in the same spot. due to air currents you can't predict where it will fall. shoot a gun straight up over your own head and see what happens. if the winds are very calm it will probably be close, but not in the exact spot. on a windy day it could be carried pretty far. hopefully it hits you right in the head though, and we can see if it does harm or not.

300ft per second is nothing but a massive exaggeration, just looking to find a charge on someone considering a 9mm bullet fired travels at roughly 1250ft per second and a .45 is roughly 900ft per second. 300ft is not enough force to really puncture anything but cardboard. now 600ft - 750ft per second starts to become a real safety concern as Air-soft pellets travel at the speed of 250ft to 400ft per second

When I was a police officer I would get these celebritiry shooting calls every new year and July fourth. The vast majority of the calls came from the 90% black government subsidized housing projects I patrolled.

I live in a "White" neighborhood in the Houston area and it sounded like a war zone to include automatic gunfire. The gunfire went on hours before and hours after midnight. I guess no one was patrolling my neighborhood.
